FYI: They are built automagically. See e.g. eudev's debian/control file
is missing a dbgsym file too :)

Yes, I don't know why it's built, and I'm not sure what it is, but it
came with the release building. Presumably some setting could be changed
to avoid it, but I haven't looked into it. So far I've managed to just
ignore it :-)

Which version of reportbug are you using? On which release?

If I understand it very well to you.

The problem is that I do not know how to proceed since it is not a package.
The problem is the release file, which must have the name of the codename and
not have none.
has:
Codename: none
should have:
Codename: experimental

Anyway send me a message, I do not know if it's the right way.

The message read as follows:
subject: Hello says 'idonis'

Package: Release
Version: experimental

Has on the line:
Codename: none

Must possess:
Codename: experimental

This prevents me from downloading the repositories to my PC.
Which prevents me from using devuan in places where there is no Internet
access.

You use the "reportbug" tool, which should be already installed in
your system. It's not like I don't want to do it, rather it is far
better if more and more Devuan users are able to report bugs: it's a
very good way of helping Devuan out.

So please consider giving a try to reportbug (it's not difficult), and
thank you in advance for your time :)

I really understand the problem. Please try using apt-mirror in the

You can even submit a report by email - it can't get much simpler than that :)

OK, I see your point now. It seems that the Release file generated
under /devuan/dists/experimental contains :

Origin: Devuan
Label: Master
Suite: experimental
Version: 1.0.0
Codename: None

while the one downloaded from ftp.debian.org is more like:

Origin: Debian
Label: Debian
Suite: experimental
Codename: experimental
...

and apparently debmirror doesn't like it (notice the "Codename: None"
vs "Codename: experimental"). It must be something peculiar to
debmirror though, since apt, apt-get, aptitute, and synaptic (and also
apt-mirror, AFAIK) do not seem to be affected. There is no doubt we
should fix it, but maybe you can try apt-mirror of debmirror in the
meanwhile?

And also, could you please file a bug report on bugs.devuan.org?

Thanks

But this is not for experimental, rather for Jessie...

According to the script you showed below:

...your deb line in sources.list should look like:

  deb file:///mnt/datos/sistemas/linux/devuan/ experimental main

note the space between "devuan/" and "experimental". I might have
totally missed your point though, but the error you showed a few mails
back is typical of a wrong repo path.

I'm trying to download it locally because I use it without internet access.

Where I live very few people have access to the internet and in their homes
practically nobody, that is why usually the one who has access to the
internet downloads it and then is used in the local pc, for it is written in
the source .list for example:
Deb file: /// mnt / data / systems / linux / devuan / jessie / jessie /
jessie non-free contrib main

The script I have to download the reset is as follows:
#!/bin/sh
if pidof -x $(basename $0) > /dev/null; then
 for p in $(pidof -x $(basename $0)); do
   if [ $p -ne $$ ]; then
 exit
   fi
 done
fi
ARQUITECTURA=i386,amd64
METODO=http
RAMA=experimental

echo "Actualizando los repositorios DEVUAN 'experimental'; main"

-e

However, the main repository script does work:

#!/bin/sh
if pidof -x $(basename $0) > /dev/null; then
 for p in $(pidof -x $(basename $0)); do
   if [ $p -ne $$ ]; then
 exit

Ok, be careful though, since stuff in experimental can be broken and
break other things, so you are warned :)

1: Is there a way I can install vdev and only vdev from experimental?
   How?

a) ensure the experimental repository is among the sources, e.g. add a
file /etc/apt/sources.list.d/devuan-experimental.list with the content
(2 lines):

deb http://auto.mirror.devuan.org/devuan/ experimental main
deb-src http://auto.mirror.devuan.org/devuan/ experimental main

b) (personal choice) add "pinning" of these packages, e.g. by adding a
file /etc/apt/preferences.d/reluctant-experimental, with the content (3
lines):

Package: *
Pin: release a=experimental
Pin-Priority: 80

(I have 80; other people use 100 or 10.)

c) apt-get update

d) apt-get install -t experimental vdev

The last step should then install the vdev package, including the
replacement library for libudev1, and the init script. It will also stow
away bits of the udev installation so as to allow a later udev choice
(not reinstalling). See below.

Further, it will install the vdev init script overriding the udev init
scripts, and it will replace udev in the initram building.

2: Is there a way I can later go back to udev? How?

With some luck, the support script /usr/share/vdev/vdev-install.sh will
help you with that. You tell it your choice of either "vdev" or "udev",
and it changes your system accordingly if needed.

It's worth to note that "vdev" only manages the /dev and it ignores all
udev rules, in particular those that include running various scripts
upon hardware changes. If those are important to you, you should rather
consider using "eudev" which basically is a different udev
implementation (although trailing any udev development), and thus aims
to deal with the udev rules files in pretty much the way udev does.

Ralph.

Re: [DNG] udev replacement

2017-07-17 Thread Fungi4All
New release of the Manjaro OpenRC Xfce ISO.
As a reference this is from my second most favorite distro and it is
current/recent.
I believe up until 16.*** the transition from systemd to openrc was viable and
documented. Since then most efforts result in breaking everything, so they
have managed to produce OpenRC isos. Like it is a virus, the further the cow-web
evolves the harder it is to sterilize.

New release of the Manjaro OpenRC Xfce ISO.
Packages include:
Linux 4.9.34
OpenRC 0.26.3
Eudev 3.2.2
Elogind 229.6
Main changes:
Includes newer version of the Calamares which fixes a bug that generated weak
password hashes (link).
This build experiments with a hybrid ALSA Pulseaudio setup in which PulseAudio
uses the ALSA dmix backend (link11) and is configured to start only when an
application uses/needs it. For people who do not want it it should be easy to
remove with pacman -Rs pulseaudio pavucontrol, while for people who have
trouble with plain ALSA but pulse works for them out of the box can enable it
by default adding PulseAudio to startup (Settings -> Session and Startup ->
Start Pulseaudio sound server), and reverting the changes done
to/etc/pulse/default.conf (link11).
Firefox has replaced Palemoon. Since version 54 Firefox seems smoother and more
responsive than before (on real hardware, in virtualbox it seems slower) due to
multi process rendering; for older, less powerful systems or if you just prefer
it, Palemoon can be installed with pacman -S palemoon-bin like it was in the
previous version of the ISO.
Download:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/manjaro-openrc-dev/files/17.0.2/24
Possible issues:
The mute key on the keyboard (generating a XF86AudioMute event) or mute
shortcut on the volumeicon may not work correctly in this hybrid ALSA pulse
system; as a workaround it have included a script mute-unmute-audio (in
/usr/local/bin) which may work.
If the script works a keybind can be added for it (also let me know so that if
a large number of people experience this issue it can be used by default).
Relevant link here.
P.S.
Let me know if the hybrid ALSA PulseAudio system works or we should switch to
something else.___

No need, packages don't get installed from experimental except for:
* your explicit request
* chosen package not existing in higher-priority sources
* upgrades for packages from experimental

The last one is important: when there's a new version, you want it updated,
especially for work in progress like vdev or eudev.

We also have eudev.

My understanding comes from my experience with "banana republic"
