Re: [libreoffice-documentation] Front- and Backcover for LO 7.0

2020-06-26 Thread Drew Jensen
I know - I said last time, last time...but almost forgot to make the
A4 sized, for PDF, pages match the new look
Also, the idea of a QR code - so I updated both the wrap around print
cover with a QR code and the A4 also
The odg files for both the wrap (print) and A4 (pdf) are up in the
cover7 folder or just to look at them a pdf here
https://nextcloud.documentfoundation.org/s/FtJW3Ce8DQ4REL7
and that is it, for real, for this ;-) till after the next meeting.

[libreoffice-documentation] Progress on Writer Guide 6.4

2020-06-26 Thread Jean Weber
I was over-optimistic about getting all the chapters of the Writer Guide
updated to v6.4 before the end of June, much less getting them all reviewed
at least once by then. I’m finding a lot of problems in some chapters that
can’t be fixed simply by updating; they need reorganisation and/or
rewriting. I’m working on that, but slowly. And I’m well aware that I did
most of the writing on the v6.0 book, so most mistakes and problems are
probably mine, even after reviews.

I’m now looking at a publication date of 10 July for the V6.4 book. I hope
the work I and others are doing on this book will make updating to v7 go
more quickly. If anyone has some rime to update or review chapters for
v6.4, please do.

Jean

Re: Re[2]: [libreoffice-documentation] LOv7 template

2020-06-26 Thread Jean Weber
I suggest simply deleting the line about F5 and not replacing it with
anything.

As for Sidebar, capital S is good (we’ve been very inconsistent about
capitalising that word but trying to fix it when found), but not
possessive. Probably should be “Styles deck in the Sidebar”, which is the
phrase I generally use elsewhere.

Re: [libreoffice-documentation] Front- and Backcover for LO 7.0

2020-06-26 Thread Drew Jensen
Howdy,

Just uploaded another png file from a second pass on layout of a print
wrap cover, choose Writer this time.
This time ripped all of the text out of the svg file, except the Logo
text, and moved it to the ODG file.
Used a single font for all text; Liberation Sans Narrow
Two text colors (except the logo, of course) LibreOffice Blue_0 and White.
Exported the Logo out separately, after a scale without losing the
proper ratio and added that back in inside the ODG file also.
So, there is still a bit of distortion on the background graphic but
none at all for any of the text rendering.
Worked a bit harder of making the spine background matchup with the
back cover, and adding a bit of adornment.
Exported it out as a full 13.25 x what ever it was ;-), 300 dpi print
ready file - which you can find here
https://nextcloud.documentfoundation.org/s/tNZYEN2tCNmZrSW

I'm thinking there is time to do one more before the next team
meeting, so if anyone wants to propose something different (fonts or
font effects, ???) I'm open to giving it a try. Otherwise this is
probably it between now and then.

Thanks for this tip. Actually if you place the cursor before "to", then
"to" is brought to the index entry dialog, so you must change it
manually to "search" before pressing OK.

  Hi Gordon,

I'm delighted to hear that you are interested in helping out with the
7.0 Calc Guide. If you visit the The Document Foundation’s wiki you
will find that the planned software release date for LibreOffice 7.0.0
  final is August 6th 2020.

Have you downloaded a version of 7.0 to try out? If not it would be
worth doing so, possibly as a parallel installation so that you don't
need to delete your current version of 6.4 yet. I use the Separate
Install GUI to achieve this - see
 https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/SI-GUI.

The Calc section of the Release Notes at
 https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleaseNotes/7.0 will give you an
idea of what's changing at 7.0. However that won't be the full story
as not all software changes find their way into the release notes - we
will only discover some changes by comparing the appearance and
behaviour of the 6.4 and 7.0 Calc software. If you do experiment with
the 7.0 version of Calc, please keep a note of any differences that
  you notice.

When I've finished publishing the 6.4 document, we'll be able to move
  forward to the 7.0 update.

Re: [libreoffice-documentation] Calc Guide 7.0

2020-06-26 Thread Milos Sramek
Hi Steve,
an index is not a problem, but the entries should be added in the right
way.

LO "helps" in adding index entries - if the cursor is placed inside a
word or directly next to it, when adding an entry the field Item (the
second one from top) in the dialog is prefilled with that word. After
pressing OK the whole word is highligted (if field highlighting is on).
This is the wrong way, since in the ODF code the higlighted word is both
displayed and used as the index entry. If translated in a language which
uses inflection, this would add the inflected form to the index.

The correct way is to add the index entry one word before or after. In
that case and entry is created which is independent from the displayed
text and can be translated. For example, if I would  like to add the
word "search" in the sentence " enter the text that you want to search
for", I would add it before "to". The entry is then displayed only as a
gray rectangle without any text.

Cheers,
Milos

2020-06-26 Thread Steve (GMail)

Hi Milos,

That's great, I was intending to do the same but there's no point
duplicating effort. Please advise when you are finished with the files.

By the way, I am hoping that the re-introduction of the alphabetical
index does not complicate translation. Please advise if this will cause
any translation issues.

Regards,

Steve

Hi,
now that CG64 is finished, I would like to check style usage and to do
my job with direct formatting cleaning. It is necessary for translation.
It will not introduce any content changes.

So, please, wait for the fixed files a few days before you start with
the CG 7.0 guide.

 Hi Gordon,

Thanks again for your help with the 6.4 Calc Guide, it is much
 appreciated.

 Regards,

 Steve
