[libreoffice-documentation] IMPORTANT LibreOffice Conference
We have been silent about the LibreOffice Conference because we are experiencing a few unexpected logistic issues. We are working hard to solve them as soon as possible, but in the meantime we ask you to wait before confirming your travel programs, or to get in touch with us if you have already booked your flights. The objective is to keep the dates of the conference, but the location may change to another city. We will communicate the details in the next couple of weeks. -- Italo Vignoli - LibreOffice Marketing & PR mobile/signal +39.348.5653829 - email it...@libreoffice.org GPG Key ID - 0xAAB8D5C0 DB75 1534 3FD0 EA5F 56B5 FDA6 DE82 934C AAB8 D5C0 -- To unsubscribe e-mail to: documentation+unsubscr...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? https://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: https://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/documentation/ Privacy Policy: https://www.documentfoundation.org/privacy

[libreoffice-documentation] FOSDEM
This weekend is the FOSDEM weekend, and as usual the LibreOffice project will be one of the leading forces behind the virtual event (as in 2021). Community members will present their talks at the LibreOffice Technology devroom, on Saturday from 1:30PM to 6PM, and on Sunday from 10AM to 6PM: https://fosdem.org/2022/schedule/track/libreoffice_technology/. Details of each presentation - links to streaming and chat rooms - by clicking on the title of the talk. We will also have a stand: https://stands.fosdem.org/stands/libreoffice/. Tomorrow I will open the main Community track at 10AM with the talk: "Making a community-managed FOSS project sustainable in the medium- to long-term". Although you may have already listened to the presentation, you are all invited: https://fosdem.org/2022/schedule/event/community_sustainable/. I will also speak at the Legal and Policy Issues devroom tomorrow at 2:30PM about: "Why the pandemic could help FOSS, but was a win for proprietary software". The schedule for the different tracks is here: https://fosdem.org/2022/schedule/tracks/. Please let me know if I forgot something (maybe, a talk from someone I don't know but is a member of the LibreOffice community). Re: [libreoffice-documentation] Work Files for LibreOffice: Tutorials for Teachers
The guides you are referring to have been created by Professor Poole, and are not related to the LibreOffice Documentation Project in any way. Unfortunately, Professor Poole has passed away on December 30, 2021. [libreoffice-documentation] LAST CHANCE Community/Marketing Budgets 2021
First of all, thanks to the few communities that have replied in due time. As we would like to get all requests from all communities, we have extended the deadline to December 20, in order to have the budget ready in early 2021 (attention: no further delays). We are asking native language communities to provide the following: 1. A list of objectives you would like to pursue in 2021. Please avoid wishful thinking, and stick to achievable objectives. A few examples: organize a virtual meeting with public administrations to educate them about LibreOffice and ODF; organize a local Virtual LibreOffice Conference; support local groups organizing activities – from remote – in schools and universities; etc. 2. For each objective, provide a rationale and a sensible amount of money. Again, we are spending donations money, and we must be extremely cautious both with requests and with approvals. Requests missing a rationale or spending details (easy to understand) will not be approved. 3. For requests equal or exceeding 1,000 euro, you must provide the outline of a project, because a large amount of money is probably covering different expense chapters (infrastructure, suppliers, OOP money) and budget approvers should be allowed to have a clear picture of what they approve. Examples of activities which TDF will provide a budget for: 1. virtual community events (aimed at getting face-time for contributors) 2. marketing activities (aimed at representing the project to the outside world) 3. community events in presence (only if possible according to the local law) 4. targeted projects (for instance, promoting LibreOffice in schools) In addition, we ask you to provide a list, if any, of infrastructure related requests, such as - for example - additional computing power or new services for your native language community. The idea is to have a good plan for 2021 as soon as possible, while keeping the administrative overhead low, and have two authorizers responsible for the final approval of the budget. TDF BoD will provide a budget bucket for marketing and a budget bucket for community. Budget requests will be associated to the relevant budget, and then approved by budget approvers (according to the availability of funds). ## Before sending any budget request, please read carefully TDF reimbursement policies: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/TDF/Policies/Community_Refunds. [libreoffice-documentation] Community/Marketing Budgets 2021
Dear members of LibreOffice native language communities, We are going through challenging times, for reasons which have nothing to do with free open source software. The pandemic is hitting hard every geography, and as a consequence all activities are slowed down or delayed. In 2020, we were supposed to organize events and other face-to-face meetings, and this was reflected by approved budget requests. Because of the situation, the majority of the budget has not been spent. On the other hand, we want to support your community and marketing activities under the new conditions, where the majority of countries is under partial or total lockdowns, or – in the best of cases – with constrained mobility. The situation is not going to change for the foreseeable future, so for the first six months of 2021, if not for the entire year. So, we have to schedule in advance marketing/community activities, to approve the budget as soon as possible – hopefully before the end of 2020 or very early in 2021 – and have the time to get organized. We are therefore asking native language communities to provide the following: 1. 2. [libreoffice-documentation] REMINDER IMPORTANT LibreOffice 10th Anniversary
I HAVE RECEIVED ONLY THREE PICTURES SO FAR, I THOUGHT THE LIBREOFFICE ANNIVERSARY WAS AN IMPORTANT MILESTONE FOR OUR COMMUNITY We were originally supposed to organize some live event to celebrate LibreOffice 10th Anniversary, but unfortunately the current situation does not allow us to meet, not even in small groups. On the other hand, in three weeks from now, on Monday September 28, it will be exactly 10 years since we announced the LibreOffice project and The Document Foundation (which was incorporated two years later). The idea is to put together an animated video of community members celebrating the 10th anniversary, smiling to the LibreOffice community and to the FOSS ecosystem at large. You have two full weeks to create a picture of yourself, where your show how happy and proud you are as a LibreOffice contributor. Be creative. Pictures should be sent to my attention by Monday, September 21, at the latest (sorry, I will not be able to accept later submission, even if masterpieces), by sending a message to it...@libreoffice.org. I would like to share the video with community members one day in advance, on Sunday September 27, to allow everyone to publish the video on their website (long version) or to share it on social media (short version). [libreoffice-documentation] Minutes of Marketing Call
1. LibreOffice 5.4 Launch LibreOffice 5.4 announcement is scheduled for Wednesday, July 26, at 1PM CEST. Localizations of the press release should be sent to Italo for distribution. Media pre-briefings have been organized on Monday and Tuesday, prior to the announcement. 2. Enterprise focused activity (Foad) Foad is a new member of the community, who has a solid experience in marketing software to enterprises. He will start a project to interact with large software vendors such as SAP and SalesForce, to integrate LibreOffice into their large enterprise software. 3. What about a Telegram marketing group? Given the success of the Design Group on Telegram, we have created a LibreOffice Marketing Group to integrate the public marketing mailing list (which has been rather dormant during the last few months). The link to subscribe to the group is the following: https://t.me/LibreOfficeMarketing. As usual, confidential discussions about marketing strategies and launch activities will continue on the private marketing mailing list, which is a closed list by invitation. 4. What about a Spanish marketing group? There is a growing number of people in Spanish speaking countries, especially in South America, willing to help in promoting LibreOffice in their geography. It looks like some of these people might have issues in speaking English, so the idea is to have a Spanish marketing group (either Telegram or mailing list) where people can discuss in their native language, with the help of other people who might not be fluent in Spanish but are willing to help (like Italo, who understands Spanish but speaks a funny mixture of Italian, Spanish and Portuguese). [libreoffice-documentation] Marketing Call July
July marketing call will be focused on the announcement of LibreOffice 5.4, scheduled for the last week of July. We will organize a number of briefings for the media, to provide advanced information on the new major release. Materials for localization will be available next week. During the last few months we have added a substantial number of new journalists in Africa, Asia and Latam, so localization will be very important. Agenda for the call will be shared in advance, to allow people to get prepared and ask questions. [libreoffice-documentation] Minutes of Marketing Call - June 14, 2017
Minutes of Marketing Call - June 14, 2017 Attendees: Uwe Altmann, Jona Azizaj (partial), Florian Effenberger (partial), Sophie Gautier, Marina Latini, Anxhelo Lushka (partial), Mike Saunders, Martin Srebotniak, Heiko Tietze, Italo Vignoli, Franklin Weng Agenda 1. Announcement of LibreOffice 5.4 Announcement of LibreOffice 5.4 is scheduled for the last week of July (potential date: Wednesday, July 26). We have started collecting information, and while Mike will be working at the new features video, Italo will be drafting documents for the announcement: press release, background on new features, white paper about cost of interoperability (based on interesting findings from the National Institute of Standards and Technologies of the US Government), white paper about ODF vs OOXML, and possibly a video about ODF vs OOXML. Materials will be ready in early July. 2. LibreOffice 6.0: why the change of numbering After LibreOffice 5.4, we will change development cycle, as we will launch the LibreOffice 6 family (starting from LibreOffice 6.0 in late January 2018). The Design Team has started to work on a new branding concept for LibreOffice 6.0, and we will probably launch a mascot competition (which is going to be discussed during the next BoD meeting). Rationale for the change of development cycle will be discussed at the LibreOffice Conference in Rome. 3. Status of update of TDF slide decks Italo has just managed a Migration to LibreOffice Workshop in Tirana, and he has updated most of the shared TDF slide decks. He will upload the updated slide decks on the wiki during the weekend, including the first release of the ODF vs OOXML slide deck, which will be finalized in early August (just before the workshop in Taiwan). During the next few months, Italo will try to organize a number of webinars or seminars to bring everyone up to speed on the topic (which is not trivial, especially if we want to communicate with "normal" end users, who represent the majority of LibreOffice users also in enterprises). Questions - LibreOffice conference and the ODF Plugfest The technical session of the ODF PlugFest in Rome will be organized on Tuesday, October 10, the day before the opening session of the LibreOffice Conference. The presentation session will be organized in the afternoon of Wednesday, October 11, at the end of the opening session of the conference. - Questions about Italy Defence project The Italian Ministry of Defence has migrated 35,000 desktop out of 100,000. During the process, L2 and L3 support has been provided by the internal structure of the organization, which is providing the same kind of services for several applications (as most contents exchanged inside the organization cannot be shared with any external structure, because of the peculiar nature of the Ministry of Defence). - Further updates of the status of UK and Munich City We do not have any specific updates on the progress made in UK about the switch to ODF. For sure, the UK government has now other priorities than in 2014, because of the Brexit discussions with the EU. On the contrary, the fact that the city of Munich is switching back to MS Windows and MS Office seems just a matter of time. Unfortunately, the entire FLOSS ecosystem has managed the situation in the wrong way, as it has overlooked the importance of communicating the advantages of the switch to OSS on a daily basis (even when you have a strong political sponsor). For sure, the city of Munich has been functioning for 12 years - without any major hiccup - with a FLOSS based infrastructure, which represents in any case a testament of the viability of FLOSS for large public administrations. Also, to switch back to MS Windows and MS Office the city of Munich will spend almost 100 million dollars during the next few years, with an estimated increase of 75 million dollars over the current FLOSS infrastructure. This figure does not include hidden security costs based on the higher vulnerability of MS Windows based systems, as demonstrated by the recent WannaCry attacks (which have not affected MacOS and Linux systems). - Akademy booth TDF booth at KDE Akademy will be staffed by Gabriele Ponzo and possibly Xisco Faulì. Italo will put in touch the different people attending the event. -- Italo Vignoli - LibreOffice Marketing & PR mobile/signal +39.348.5653829 - email it...@libreoffice.org hangout/jabber italo.vign...@gmail.com - skype italovignoli GPG Key ID - 0xAAB8D5C0 DB75 1534 3FD0 EA5F 56B5 FDA6 DE82 934C AAB8 D5C0 -- To unsubscribe e-mail to: documentation+unsubscr...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/documentation/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted

[libreoffice-documentation] NLP Budget Requests for 2017
In order to improve the management of the marketing/community budget for 2017, we ask native language communities to provide the following: 1. A list of objectives you would like to pursue in 2017. Please avoid wishful thinking, and stick to realistic objectives. A few examples: organize a meeting with public administrations to educate them about LibreOffice and ODF; organize a local LibreOffice Conference; reimburse volunteers travelling around the country to present LibreOffice and ODF at local events. 2. For each objective, provide a rationale and a sensible amount of money. Again, we are spending donations money, and we must be extremely cautious both with requests and with approvals. Requests missing a rationale or easy to understand details will not be approved. 3. For requests equal or exceeding 1,000 euro, you must provide the outline of a project, because a large amount of money is probably covering different expenses (people, suppliers, events) and budget approvers should be allowed to have a clear picture of what they approve. Examples of activities which TDF will provide a budget for: 1. community events (aimed at getting face-time for community contributors) 2. marketing activities (aimed at representing the project to the outside world) 3. targeted projects (for instance, promoting LibreOffice in schools) In addition, we ask you to provide a list, if any, of infrastructure related requests, such as - for example - additional computing power or new services for your native language community. The idea is to keep the administrative overhead as low as possible, and have two authorizers responsible for each budget. TDF BoD will provide a budget bucket for marketing and one for community. Budget requests will be associated to the relevant budget, and then approved by budget approvers (according to the availability of funds). As a sample, a request could look like this: ## We'd like to request a 2017 budget of 1000 € for community events and 1500 € for marketing. Expenses we envision are 1. marketing: attendance at XYZ trade show to show LibreOffice to ABC user group (700 € booth costs, 300 € for collaterals and 500 € of travel, totalling to 1500 €), 2. community: a community weekend to discuss tasks and ideas (600 € hotel, 100 € for snacks and 300 € travel, totalling to 1000 €). ## Before sending any budget request, please read carefully TDF policies: Travel: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/TDF/Policies/Travel Refunding: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/TDF/Policies/Refunding Community Refunding: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/TDF/Policies/Community_Refunds Deadline for submissions is January 20, 2017, in order to have amounts approved during FOSDEM meetings. Attendants: Sophie Gautier, Angelica Burgos Diaz, Franklin Weng, Uwe Altmann, Italo Vignoli 1. Italo has presented the UI Concept for LibreOffice 5.3. The idea is to draft a backgrounder to announce the concept at the time of RC1 (backgrounder in progress ready for end of this week). 2. The idea is to get feedback before FOSDEM to discuss at FOSDEM (marketing session planned for Monday or Tuesday). 3. Angelica has told about the adoption of LibreOffice by the Bogotà district in Colombia, where the software has been well received by the users. After the elections, they hope to see the government confirming the decision of the previous one, and spreading the adoption of free software. 5. Italo has quickly outlined the announcement schedule for LibreOffice 5.3, which will be announced on Wednesday, February 1st (if the release plan is confirmed). The press kit should be available for localizations around January 15. [libreoffice-documentation] Second Bug Hunting Session for LibreOffice 5.3
LibreOffice 5.3 will be announced at the end of January 2017, with a large number of new features which are summarized on the release notes page: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleaseNotes/5.3. In order to find, report and triage bugs, the QA team is organizing a second bug hunting session on Friday, November 25, 2016. Tests will be performed on the Beta version of LibreOffice 5.3, which will be available on the pre-releases server (http://dev-builds.libreoffice.org/pre-releases/) a few days before the event. Builds will be available for Linux (DEB and RPM), MacOS and Windows, and will run in parallel with the production version. Mentors will be available on November 25, 2016, from 8AM UTC to 10PM UTC. Of course, hunting bugs will be possible also on other days, as the builds of this particular Beta release (LibreOffice 5.3.0 Beta1) will be available until mid December. During the day there will be two dedicated sessions: the first to chase bugs on the main LibreOffice modules between 3PM UTC and 5PM UTC, and the second to test a set of the top 7 features between 5PM UTC and 7PM UTC. All details of the second bug hunting session are available on the specific wiki page: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/BugHuntingSession/5.3.0Beta1. During the dedicated sessions, we will concentrate all efforts to chase and reproduce the bugs, in order to confirm and file them in a more comprehensive way. Of course, the more comprehensive will be the bug report, the easier will be for the developers to solve the bugs in time for the final release. Re: [libreoffice-documentation] Calc translation - italian
Forwarding the email to the Italian localization mailing list, which is the most appropriate environment to discuss translations of LibreOffice documentation in Italian. Luca Daghino and Valter Mura, who are overseeing the localization in Italian, will be happy to help. If I remember well, there is already a translation of the Calc guide (probably version 3.6 as they strated all translations at that time) which is not finalized. In any case, the global documentation mailing list is for manuals in English, while manuals in every other language should be discussed in the native language localization mailing list.
