Re: [libreoffice-documentation] Introduction - joining the team
Hi Laura, Welcome! I'm a member of the Documentation Team who (at the moment) focuses on Calc aspects. I've been chatting to Ilmari Lauhakangas and wondered whether you would be interested in helping with some of our current activities to improve Calc's documentation? There is plenty to work on but I will try to avoid scaring you off by covering too much! One area where you might be able to add great value quickly is in our Calc Functions wiki (https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Documentation/Calc_Functions). Within the 500+ pages accessible through this section of the TDF wiki (one page for each of Calc's functions) there are 63 pages covering financial functions. As a mathematician working in quantitative analysis, then I expect you will know a lot more than me about what these functions should do - perhaps you could review their current descriptions to identify any corrections or improvements that could be considered? Another task you could certainly help with is reviewing the LibreOffice 7.2 Calc Guide chapters, when I've completed the updates in a few days time. Please let me know if these activities interest you. Regards, Steve Fanning On 28/08/2021 09:34, Laura Venieri wrote: Hi everyone, My name is Laura and I would like to join the documentation team. Re: [libreoffice-documentation] introduction
Hi Steve, Glad to have you here. If you don't already have an account on the ODFAuthors website, where we store our working files, I'll set one up for you -- as soon as I find out your surname and your preferred username. You can sign up for an account on the wiki yourself. The best way you can help right now is to review and edit chapters of the Base Handbook for LO v5.0, which has been translated from German into English. Some parts were translated and edited several years ago, but the book has been updated since, and the newly translated parts need editing. http://www.odfauthors.org/libreoffice/english/base-handbook/drafts_5.0 (You won't see the individual files until you have an account.) Dan Lewis is working on Chapter 1; I am working on Chapter 2. You could start with Chapter 3 or choose any other file in the book. Some sections need heavier editing than others, to match the writing style and the terminology used in the rest of the book and in our other books. You will have questions. It's best to ask them here on the list, not directly to me, because I'm often not available but someone else can usually help you. --Jean On Thu, Oct 22, 2015 at 9:34 AM, Stevewrote: > Hello, > > My name is Steve. I have created an ODFAuthors account for you; you should receive an email with a link to set your password. We can especially use help with the Calc Guide, both updating and reviewing it. Peter Schofield has made a start (drafts of Preface and Chapter 1) and may be working on some other chapters now. You could review those, which are available here: http://www.odfauthors.org/libreoffice/english/calc-guide/draft-lo4.4 Chapters 7, 8, 9, 10, and 11 in particular could use a fresh look and perhaps some improvement in content and wording -- in addition to any updates that might be needed due to changes in the program itself. (They also need updating to new template.) Latest version of book (for LO 4.1) is here: http://www.odfauthors.org/libreoffice/english/calc-guide/published-lo-4.1 Or, if you prefer to make a start on the Writer Guide for v4.4, the previous version is here: http://www.odfauthors.org/libreoffice/english/writer-guide/published-4.2 New template for v4.4 is here: http://www.odfauthors.org/libreoffice/english/resources-for-contributers/lov4-4-chapter-template-draft/view You'll probably have questions, because the instructions in the Contributor's Guide are not always up to date or as clear as they might be. Chapter 2 is the most important; it's available in ODT here: http://www.odfauthors.org/libreoffice/english/resources-for-contributers/producing-libreoffice-user-guides/view and in both ODT and PDF here: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Documentation/Development#Contributors_Guide --Jean (Attempting to retire from Team Leader role) -- To unsubscribe e-mail to: documentation+unsubscr...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/documentation/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted

I'm still very new to databases in general, but it's been something I've been meaning to get around to learning for ages, and this seems as good a way as any! Re: [libreoffice-documentation] introduction
Hi :) Gary did join last week sometime. I am not sure if he is already registered on ODFAuthors and i have no idea how to check. My fault! I should have learned much more about ODFAuthors - to register people and take the burden off otherwise already very busy people. We have been trying to hold off on proof-reading or reviewing the first few chapters of Base because he'd said he was keen to start on Base. It's one (of many) reason why Peter G jumped in to doing the Forms chapter straight-away. Apols and regards from Tom :) On 29 September 2014 00:21, Joel Madero jmadero@gmail.com wrote: Hey Gary, Great to have you volunteering! Re: [libreoffice-documentation] introduction
Gary has been registered on ODFAuthors. Gary, you should have received an email. Tom, you do not have the permissions required to register people or even see who is registered. The small group that maintains the ODFAuthors website is NOT the LibreOffice Documentation Team, although there is some overlap in people. Our sysadmin does not want very many people to have admin access; we've had problems in the past with too many cooks. --Jean On Mon, Sep 29, 2014 at 8:33 PM, Tom Davies tomc...@gmail.com wrote: Hi :) Gary did join last week sometime. I'm in the process of reading the documents on http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Documentation/Development. I would like to have a user account for the ODFauthors site and some suggestions about where help is needed. I know the Writer best, followed by Impress and Calc. I have used Draw a few times, but I've never tried out Base. Regards, Franziska Schulthess As requested, I've created your account for the ODFAuthors website. You should receive an email with instructions on how to set your password. In addition to Klaus-Jürgen's suggestion about German documentation, you are welcome to work on English docs as well. At this time we are getting ready to update the user guides to LOv4.0. There are also other things you could work on if you prefer; see the Easy Hacks page, http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Documentation/Easy_hacks and especially the More complex tasks part of that page, http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Documentation/Easy_hacks#More_complex_tasks We won't have a beta of LOv4.0 until December, but there is an extensive features list on the wiki, so we can work on the first step of determining which topics should go into which chapters of which user guide books. We can also look at the books in terms of any improvements that might need to be made, for consistency or topic order or level of detail or whatever. The features list for v4.0 is here: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleaseNotes/3.7 The books will also need to include features from v3.6 and in some cases v3.5. Welcome back, Rick! It's great to see you again. I've created an account for you at the other website the LibreOffice Docs people use. (I see Sigrid set you up at ODFAuthors.) You'll receive a private email with login info. --Jean On Mon, Mar 19, 2012 at 01:52, Mail Dump mail.d...@comcast.net wrote: Hi all, My name is Richard Barnes. Hi, You could usefully join the localization mailing list as well, because they can give you lots of useful advice. Check here for that: http://www.libreoffice.org/get-involved/localizers/ But I can also set up a Danish area on our Alfresco platform, where you could have a storage area and simple workflow, if you're interested. -- David Nelson -- Unsubscribe instructions: E-mail to documentation+h...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/documentation/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted

Welcome in Johnny :) Good work in Ubuntu's documentation :) Can someone help him sign-up with Alfresco and stuff? Do we have a good welcome-in package or new-documenters-guide?
