Welcome!

I'm a member of the Documentation Team who (at the moment) focuses on 
Calc aspects.


I've been chatting to Ilmari Lauhakangas and wondered whether you would 
be interested in helping with some of our current activities to improve 
Calc's documentation? There is plenty to work on but I will try to avoid 
scaring you off by covering too much!


One area where you might be able to add great value quickly is in our 
Calc Functions wiki 
(https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Documentation/Calc_Functions). 
Within the 500+ pages accessible through this section of the TDF wiki 
(one page for each of Calc's functions) there are 63 pages covering 
financial functions. As a mathematician working in quantitative 
analysis, then I expect you will know a lot more than me about what 
these functions should do - perhaps you could review their current 
descriptions to identify any corrections or improvements that could be 
considered?


Another task you could certainly help with is reviewing the LibreOffice 
7.2 Calc Guide chapters, when I've completed the updates in a few days time.

to reflect changes made made to more recent versions of the software. At


the moment we are updating the guides to cover changes made to version


7.0. For most guides a team member will take and update one or more


chapters of a guide, then other team members review those updates.




Unfortunately you have joined us at a time when we are making a small


change to our workflow and the instructions found in our Contributors


Guide book [1] and the equivalent pages on the wiki [2] are in the


process of being updated. If you need any information please feel free


to ask on this list.

Good to have you reviewIng Writer Guide 6.4 chapters. For this round,
please focus only on technical correctness and glaring errors. Please
do not attempt to reorganise or rewrite, even when it’s obvious a
chapter needs serious work. You are welcome to flag issues for
revision for v7, but any major changes won’t go into this edition.
Please put your initials in the Checked out by column on the Status
spreadsheet when you take a chapter for review.

release, due next February. That will include the 5.3 (that you did) and
5.4 (to be released before August) and follow the development of the 6.0
release (on-going).

Glad to have you here. If you don't already have an account on the
ODFAuthors website, where we store our working files, I'll set one up
for you -- as soon as I find out your surname and your preferred
username. You can sign up for an account on the wiki yourself.

The best way you can help right now is to review and edit chapters of
the Base Handbook for LO v5.0, which has been translated from German
into English. Some parts were translated and edited several years ago,
but the book has been updated since, and the newly translated parts
need editing.

Dan Lewis is working on Chapter 1; I am working on Chapter 2. You
could start with Chapter 3 or choose any other file in the book. Some
sections need heavier editing than others, to match the writing style
and the terminology used in the rest of the book and in our other
books.

You will have questions. It's best to ask them here on the list, not
directly to me, because I'm often not available but someone else can
usually help you.

We can especially use help with the Calc Guide, both updating and
reviewing it. Peter Schofield has made a start (drafts of Preface and
Chapter 1) and may be working on some other chapters now. You could
review those, which are available here:

Chapters 7, 8, 9, 10, and 11 in particular could use a fresh look and
perhaps some improvement in content and wording -- in addition to any

I am not sure if he is already registered on ODFAuthors and i have no idea
how to check.  My fault!  I should have learned much more about ODFAuthors
- to register people and take the burden off otherwise already very busy
people.

We have been trying to hold off on proof-reading or reviewing the first few
chapters of Base because he'd said he was keen to start on Base.  It's one
(of many) reason why Peter G jumped in to doing the Forms chapter
straight-away.

In addition to Klaus-Jürgen's suggestion about German documentation,
you are welcome to work on English docs as well. At this time we are
getting ready to update the user guides to LOv4.0. There are also
other things you could work on if you prefer; see the Easy Hacks

especially the More complex tasks part of that page,

We won't have a beta of LOv4.0 until December, but there is an
extensive features list on the wiki, so we can work on the first step
of determining which topics should go into which chapters of which
user guide books. We can also look at the books in terms of any
improvements that might need to be made, for consistency or topic
order or level of detail or whatever.
