Re: [Dorset] Using ZOOM on Linus
I used Zoom on Ubuntu MATE 18.04 the other week, It was a support call with a vendor so didn't use a webcam but voice and screenshare was ok. I used the deb file from the Zoom site. There is also the option of running Zoom within the browser which should be fine for voice and video, while the browser only version allowed me to show my screen, they couldn't control it which is why I went to the .deb install. I'm surprised the ISP blamed the cable when only one site had an issue. I can't think of how they came that conclusion. Maybe they thought the cable had became sentient and look a dislike to raspberrypi.org :) Can anyone think of any reason for this event? Is it possible that the Pi caused this? Does Cat 5 stop carrying Ethernet packets in hot weather :-) This last question is only partially serious, but the cable does run around the outside of the house. I haven't come across any issues with hot weather and and ethernet cables, $previousdayjob had cables outside for a wireless install and hot weather didn't seem both them. The wet weather however did, although that was due to them not using external CAT5 cable and it allowed water to get in and run down the cable to the switch, causing them to replace the cables with external rated cable. If the weather was hot enough to melt the cables then I would expect it to stop working completely or have packet loss due to errors across the board rather than stopping a single site from working. The issue looks to be that DNSSEC was removed from raspberrypi.org, the signed records were removed from the raspberrypi.org name servers before .org's servers stopped telling everyone that the zone was signed and before the cached records expired. ( https://twitter.com/Mythic_Beasts/status/1011827917960155136 ) This caused raspberrypi.org to fail DNSSEC validation and your resolver would have been returning a servfail. Re: [Dorset] Scrounge Request
Hi Terry, I have a powered USB hub you could borrow if you are still in need of one. It reports to be 3A and was used to power a Pi and some USB bitcoin miners. No idea if it will back feed a Pi as I powered the Pi from one of the "Fast Charge" USB ports on the hub. http://www.dlink.com/uk/en/home-solutions/connect/usb/dub-h7-7-port-usb-2-0-hub Regards David On 31/12/16 14:08, Terry Coles wrote: Hi, I have a request for a loan of an externally powered USB Hub with at least 4 ports. If anyone is in a position to loan me such a device, I'd be happy to collect and return it within a day or so. I'm having a problem with the Wimborne Model Town hardware. I am using one of these with a Pi Zero: https://www.modmypi.com/raspberry-pi/accessories/usb-hubs/hackable-naked-7-port-usb-hub-uk-5v-2.5a/?search=Hac[1] It comes with a 2.5 A supply and is supposed to be able to back-power the Pi. The trouble is that it works when I power-up the Pi with only the mouse and keyboard attached and then attach the other peripherals one by one (three USB Audio Adaptors and a WiFi dongle). It crashes the Pi if I try to boot with said devices all attached. I have run some tests on the PSU brick which comes with this and found that with a 2 Ohm load, I only get 2 A or so and the terminal voltage drops to 4.8 V. We could power the Pi separately, but that adds to the cost and needs a separate mains outlet. However, before I ask for a refund, I'd like to remove this Hub from the equation. I get a similar problem when I use an unpowered hub, but I would expect that, since the WiFi Adaptor takes 240 mA and each of the Audio Adaptors takes another 170 mA (and that's steady state; the inrush current is going to be higher). If I can prove that my peripherals aren't causing the problem, I'd be inclined to go for one of these: https://thepihut.com/products/zero4u-4-port-usb-hub-for-raspberry-pi-zero[2] -- Next meeting: Bournemouth, Tuesday, 2017-01-03 20:00 Meets, Mailing list, IRC, LinkedIn, ... http://dorset.lug.org.uk/ New thread: mailto:dorset@mailman.lug.org.uk / CHECK IF YOU'RE REPLYING Reporting bugs well: http://goo.gl/4Xue / TO THE LIST OR THE AUTHOR

Re: [Dorset] Opening ports - confused
Hi Tim, I suspect it is because you have the protocol as ALL, There are more protocols than TCP and UDP. You would need to create a rule for TCP and one for UDP if you want to open the port for both. iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 3977 -j ACCEPT iptables -A INPUT -p udp --dport 3977 -j ACCEPT Failing that you could use --destination-port instead of dport. Re: [Dorset] networking problem - can anyone help ?

BUT for the Lan machines I cannot - they are in range 192.168.1.x I have tried setting a route on the Lan machine - route add 192.168.2.x gw 192.168.1.10 BUT it does not appear So what have I missed here ? When you say does not appear, do you mean in some sort of automated setup tool?, if so it wont work as I believe they work by sending out broadcast packets and seeing if the printer responds, however the broadcast packet will not transverse IP ranges (broadcast domains). Are you able to ping the printer or get to the printers web panel if it has one? if then the current setup isn't working and you be able to print even if you put the printers IP address in when setting up the printer on your machine. You might be able to add static routes on the routers instead of the client machines to route between the 2 IP ranges. then this mean it wouldn't matter if the machine moved from wireless to lan as it should still be able to get to the printer The best solution would be to disable DCHP on the linksys router and turn in to just an access point (I think you might also have make it act as bridge, I am not sure how this would be done on the linksys wireless router, but we have done it at work with some netgear wireless routers) then the linksys router will just pass the wireless traffic on to the lan and from the lan back to the wireless clients without modifying it. It would be a Layer 2 device if you know your OSI model this would then allow both the wireless machines and lan machines to be on the same range (192.168.1.1) While I am not sure of how to do this on a linksys router if you let me know the model number I could have a look at the manual and see if I can work it out. -- Next meeting: C4L and Bournemouth, Wednesday 2010-06-02 19:00 http://dorset.lug.org.uk/ http://www.linkedin.com/groups?gid=2645413 Chat: http://www.mibbit.com/?server=irc.blitzed.orgchannel=%23dorset List info: https://mailman.lug.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/dorset
