However, that's only counting those who have expressed a preference and on

As one who's recently tried to be a Crown "regular" I'll miss the
Blandford meets if we do abandon them, but understand there's little
point in continuing with that location if hardly anyone turns up. I
think the principle of alternating locations is good. Happy to try the
Blackwater Stream or the Kings Head in Wimborne as has previously been
muted. I'd probably come to the Broadway meets on an occasional basis.

Re: [Dorset] Location of July's Meeting.

2011-06-24 Thread Natalie
I've checked bus maps and buses for the Blackwater Stream, and it seems
that Wilts & Dorset buses No 3 and 4 go there. Unfortunately, each of
them only has an hourly service in the evening and as luck would have
it, the buses back in town are within a few minutes of each other, so
then, it's over 50 minutes wait. And that's a bus going to Poole, not
Bournemouth, so from where I live, it would be quite a trek so I doubt I
would go.

For those interested in buses, the timetables are at
http://www.wdbus.co.uk/site/uploads/publications/169.pdf and
http://www.wdbus.co.uk/site/uploads/publications/168.pdf

As I said, I prefer the Broadway for purely selfish reasons but on
principle, I think trying out the Blackwater Stream might be a good
idea, assuming enough people can make it.

The distance to Blandford from Corfe Mullen is around 10 miles and to
the

Broadway around 8 miles. The time is about the same, so it makes little
difference to me except that the Crown has wireless and the Broadway
doesn't.

An alternative that we discussed recently is the Blackwater Stream in
Broadstone. This is a Wetherspoons pub which used to be the Stepping
Stones
until February. It has free WiFi and can accommodate 6-10 people,
but there
are no guarantees on space since they are popular for food. It is on
a Bus

route and apparently Wednesday's is one of the quiet(er) nights.

Apart, from that, I'll go with the flow.

As one of the few Blandford locals who attended a meeting, I can say I
really did enjoy having them there. However, my circumstances have
changed - my wife now works every evening, so I'm usually looking after
the children. I quite see that it's silly for Bournemouth folk to drive
all the way up here when they could just as well stay near home.

I hope to be able to attend some B'mth meetings at some point, and
perhaps in the future to encourage the LUG to start the Blandford ones
again when I'm in a position to attend regularly.

In theory it's Blandford Forum's turn in July, but given poor turn-out
there recently should be just settle on Bournemouth's The Broadway for
every month? Would the Broadway regulars turn out so soon after the
last one?

Cheers, Ralph.

The distance to Blandford from Corfe Mullen is around 10 miles and to the
Broadway around 8 miles. The time is about the same, so it makes little
difference to me except that the Crown has wireless and the Broadway doesn't.

An alternative that we discussed recently is the Blackwater Stream in
Broadstone. This is a Wetherspoons pub which used to be the Stepping Stones
until February. It has free WiFi and can accommodate 6-10 people, but there
are no guarantees on space since they are popular for food. It is on a Bus
route and apparently Wednesday's is one of the quiet(er) nights.

Apart, from that, I'll go with the flow.

I would turn up if I'm around (going on hols 8th til 14th), and
generally speaking, I would be happy with monthly events in Bournemouth
(but then again, I don't live far from that pub so I am biased!).

I'd be happy to but I have a vested interest since I am in walking distance ;-)
