Are both of you using the latest 'new' searches from CVS? Nope, standard install from sourceforge. [DQSD-Users] RE: explorer hangs when trying to search
fyi, I have XP home / DQSD 3.1.6 / all the latest windows update patches and use Firebird with no problems. Why are ye guys still using IE, I used it for years but can see no reason to go back to it. Occasionally I will have to load a page in IE that Firebird can't cope with, but I think that was once in the last 2 weeks for example. Firebird is excellent. Note that doing a ? does load the help in IE but this is an acknowledged "feature". Cheers - Tom. You never finish a program, you just stop working on it.
RE: [DQSD-Users] explorer hangs when trying to search
Hi guys, If you mean 'October 2003, Cumulative Patch for Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 (KB828750)' then i don't have that installed and i still see the same behaviour as you two do. Hm... Darn - I was hoping it was something easily identifiable. :( I've installed DQSD on another Windows 2000 machine with IE6. Before the machine was rebooted it was fine, I installed the patch, reboot and it breaks. (Actually the patch was already installed, it was just awaiting a reboot to activate it) I must be very lucky... At work, I'm running Windows 2000 SP4 and IE6 with all available patches, and I haven't had any problems. I've got XP at home, and it works fine here as well with the latest patches. I had problems with IE hanging a while ago, and it turned out to be because mshtml.dll had become unregistered. You could always try (not that it's guaranteed to help) to do this on the command-line: C:\cd WINNT\System32 C:\WINNT\System32regsvr32 mshtml.dll It won't break anything, that's for sure. Re: [DQSD-Users] dqsd doesn't seem to honor the default browser (XP)
Sorry for the message. John Bairen pointed me to the FAQ and the whole sequence with SetBrowser did the trick. Now I'm using Firebird and free of the IE-related hangs. Only one annoyance left -- the time doesn't show up in the window until I click in the taskbar. I fooled around with the delay and display help settings and those didn't seem to fix the problem. B.J. At 20:51 09-10-2003 -0400, you wrote: Using XP Home and a version of dqsd installed today everything seems to get launched in IE, no matter what the default browser is set to. I tried setting the default browser with the XP start bar menu item to control settings, and from the browsers as well. Either way I set the default browser the XP address bar would launch URLs in the default browser but dqsd would use IE. I tried changing launchmode from 2 to 1 but that didn't have any effect. Any suggestions for dealing with this problem? (Suggestion for enhancement: Allow a browser to be specified other than IE or the system default browser.) By the way, thanks for making this tool available. I have wanted something like this for a while and today I finally went searching for it and was glad to find it. B.J. -- B.J.
