Re: [Drakelist] Off topic:

2010-01-17 Thread Ron
Luther,
Looking at the schematic, RL is not in a normally high power location, so most
likely any pot which will physically mate up should work.

But I like Mike would check the solder joints. Also check the switches. The
SWR/power switch is also between the diodes and meter. An ohm meter on RL
should be a quick check for it. An ohm meter from the fwd/ref switch center
contacts to the top of RL should indicated if the SWR/power switch is okay.

Let me know how it goes.

Now that I can get on all bands with my TR4Cw, my tuner
went on the blink. It is an MFJ 941D (which is a
cheapie, but has worked good for me). I had no meter
movement and I changed out the two germanium diodes (1N34A)
and got my meter working on forward power but not reflected
power. There is a variable resistor located between
the two diodes labeled 500K RL that is shot. I
don't know the power rating of that component or where
to find it, but I think that would fix my reflected power
problem. Any help would be appreciated. I know
this is off topic, but I need it to use my Drake!

Re: [Drakelist] Off topic:

2010-01-17 Thread Luther Nallie

I am sorry I did not make it clear what the problem is on my first post.

What is happening on the MFJ 941D is my reflected power is showing 3:1 on a
dummy load and I checked it with a Bird meter and it's absolutely flat.
Nothing happens when I try to turn the adjustment screw on the RL except if I
go too far the SWR shows as a dead short. So it is showing some reflected
power. I checked the connections as far as I could see and they look okay.
What I would really like to do is change out the RL before I go any further and
go from there. If anyone has a part number from a parts house, that would help
me tremendously.

Thanks,

Luther, KQ5O

[Drakelist] TR4 and SB-200 Question

2010-01-17 Thread Kevin Elliott

I have just recently purchased an extremely nice SB-200 with all of the
Harbach mods installed, my question is this. With all of the mods installed
which are mainly aimed at allowing the SB-200 to play better with today
solid-state rigs, do these mods, in particular the Soft-Key mod now prohibit
me from using my Drake TR-4 with the amplifier? I do realize one of my
major concerns it to not overdrive the amp with the TR-4. After reading the
suggestion which was posted a week or so back I think I may use the
T-connector and a 100-watt dummy load setup to help solve the over driving
problem. I am wondering if I should just use the ALC line and perhaps a
foot switch on the amp. Any suggestions or feedback is appreciated.

Kevin - KG0MN
