Hi guys, can you tell me how to unsubscribe from getting the emails, but still
be able to access the archives. My mailbox is filling up but I would still
like to be able to see what's going on by visiting Drakelist. Thank you, I
enjoy all the input from the experts!

[Drakelist] TR-4C tube shields

2010-02-22 Thread K Allen
Even though I've had this TR-4C (#40249) about 2 years I've only just today
took the top cover off for a look. I noticed that the metal shields are
missing from V6 (12BY7A) driver and V12 (12BA6). Is this something I should be
concerned about? Where, if anywhere, can I find replacement shields?

Re: [Drakelist] Home made cable..

2010-02-22 Thread Michael Ditmore
Doc

When restoring my L4B and rebuilding the PS I took the opportunity to rebuild
the cable as well - it gave me a chance to take the stiff HV line out and
replace it with a separate HV cable (automotive high tension line works well)
and new matching connector on the PS (right next to the new PS board)...

I then recovered the PS cable with a length of large shrink tubing, shrank it
and covered that with some woven black expandable poly cable covering which
works very well and looks very cool. The whole thing is smaller, more flexible
and doesn't have the HV line poking out before the connector.

Good luck

[Drakelist] Mailing list Updates

2010-02-22 Thread Thom LaCosta

The Spam Scam
Over the last week, one of the anti-spam databases has my server
listed. We don't spam, but we ended up in the database. The
obnoxious part is that they charge 50 bucks to remove you IF you can
prove you are not violating their rules...so you either pay 50 bucks
or wait 4 weeks to be removed automatically.

How do you get on the list? If you bounce back mail because it's
spam, and it goes back to an address that was used by the spammer in
his/her email(but NOT his/her sending address).

From my perspective, the policy is simply a way for someone in
Europe to make a lot of money by creating problems for folks.

In any eventa lot of messages addressed to list members at ATT
SBCglobal never made it there.

So, you might want to check the archives if you suspect you're not
getting the mail http://www.mail-archive.com/drakelist@zerobeat.net/

Posting Policy
I'm seeing a lot of messages that require me to authorize posting to
the list because they are NOT from an address that is subscribed to
the list. If you subscribed from an address like
joeb...@somedomain.com and attempt to post from your work address, a
friend's, the library, etc...your message will not make it.

I try to alert folks when their message is of the type detailed
above, but with all the spam, it's harder for me to sift the wheat
from the chaff.

If you don't get reponses to your postsCheck the archive to see
if it made it to the listif it didn't, make sure you posted from
a subscribed address.

Thanks

[Drakelist] Hum on Drake 2-C Receiver

2010-02-22 Thread fofield
Hello..I am getting hum only in the AM position and it goes up and down with
the volume control.

I replaced the caps in the high voltage section but not in the 12 volt supply
as they are hard to get at and since I do not hear the hum on SSB I am
assuming, maybe incorrectly, that they are ok.

The hum sounds like about 400 cycles, not as low as 60 cycles. Voltages in the
set look good, and the receiver works good otherwise although I am sure it
needs some peaking up in the alignment.

I am waiting for a set of tubes in case one of them has developed the hum but
again since I do not hear it on SSB maybe a tube is not at fault.

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. Thanks..Cliff___

[Drakelist] L-4 Amp

2010-02-22 Thread Bill Scott
I have a L-4 amp I purchased from an estate several years ago and it has no
output on 10m with a high SWR. I have never tried to tune up the L-4 on 10m
because I always used the L-7 for that mode. I was wondering if the L-4
came from the factory back in the 60's without the 10m band activated like
the L-7 did. I know they wanted to keep the CBers from using it on 11m. Is
there any instuctions on the internet on how to activate the 10m.

[Drakelist] Cable question..

2010-02-22 Thread HaloNet
I need some help locating some power supply cable.. Been looking for some
replacement muilti-conductor cable for a couple of vintage power supplies I'm
restoring but haven't had any luck so far..

Belden sells a bewildering array but I didn't find any cable which has the
mixed sizes of wire (two heavier for 12 v, filament & 10 smaller diameter for
HV leads)

Can anyone either give me the name of a supplier or a product number for Belden
cable.. any comments on the actual AWG sizes used in the older tube equpment
(Drake AC4, Swan 117C, Hallicrafters SR-150, etc) would be helpful too.

Thanks for any suggestions...

Re: [Drakelist] Drakelist Digest, a question

2010-02-22 Thread Garey Barrell
If you have a good ANTI-VOX cable connected, and the ANTI_VOX control on
the side of the receiver is at mid-range, you will have sidetone unless
there is a fault in the transmitter or receiver. If the transmitter
functions in TUNE mode, the "sidetone generator" is working, but there
may be other faults that keep it from getting to the receiver.

[Drakelist] Possible problem with T-4XC xmtr

2010-02-22 Thread Howard Traxler
Hi all, don't know that this question went out on the list:

Friday I was tuning up my T-4XC on 80M. Heard a very loud POP came from
somewhere behind the front panel. No smell of smoke or oazone.

Never tune for more than 4 or 5 seconds at a time and never off-resonance
more than 1 or 2 seconds. Before this incident, the xmtr tuned up to 120 to
140 watts (according to my TW-1 talking watt meter); after, it now peaks at
about 80W. I had a QSO afterwords, so I know it's working some. Antenna
match is about 1.3/1.

Do you think I did something real bad or maybe it's just a tube or a plate
choke or something? Where should I start to diagnose?

Thanks, anybody.
