Subject: [Drakelist] DDS-4

Hi All,

I know it's a longshot, but I came across a kit/project that was from Italy for
a DDS VFO for the Drake 4 Line (called the DDS-4). I'd love to find one of
these. If anyone knows of any for sale, I'd be VERY interested. Here is the
manual for it: http://www.nitehawk.com/rasmit/vna_dds/dds-x_v1_6.pdf I
emailed the 2 guys involved and so far have had one reply saying the project
was discontinued a few years ago.

So, if anyone knows of something similar or one of these units for sale, please
let me know.

Bill,

Yes, Network Sciences was the main supplier of filters for the Drake
line I believe.  Inrad, GUF, etc. are other options as well but I
believe Network Sciences was the primary supplier.

Sounds good Dale,

Your comments are some of the information I was looking for. I have the
noise blankers in both my c Lines and the tr7 I own, but to get the
most dramatic effect in noise reduction it seems like the next level
upgrade is one of these dsp devices.

For 150-200 bucks it does sound worth it.

I read the review, interesting. Have been using the gap.. same as the
ant co...Hear It in line module for 2 years now. It is made by BHI,
also and brought into the us ,via gap. With the early rigs, drake
,Collins, etc this module is fantastic. Both on ssb and cw operation It
performs as well as the dsp on my proIII. The in line module has all
its preramitors adjustable and you can tailor it so sharply its hard to
believe what it can do to a audio signal. BHI has been the leader in
this field for a number of years, would like to try it up against the
ANEM module, can't imagine  the ANEM doing a whole lot more than the
hear it. ,and for 200.00, hard to beat. Using the twins with the hear
it ,is any day as good as the pro, using the Icom dsp.
I just thought I would mention about the gap, cause Iam so satisfied
with it.the best adition I have made to the twins.

thanks for reading.

There are Drake noise blankers and then all the rest. I agree on the
NB-7. This also applies to the noise blankers used in the TR-4 series
including the TR-6 and the R-4C, SPR-4 receivers. Although the R-4B has
a decent noise blanker, it is nowhere near as effective as the ones
just mentioned. All are very similar in design if not IF frequency.
However, I must say the noise blankers in the Yaesu FT-920 and FT-100mp
mkV are also very effiective. The only drawback in the Yaesu rigs is
the front end filter is a bit wide and limits the effectiveness of the
blankers due to strong adjacent signals. Like you, I am severely
limited by noise at my QTH. One of the things that helps with a single
source of noise is the ANC-4 now manufactured by Timewave. My noise
antenna is usually a Hustler 6-BTV mounted on the ground in my back
yard. It can be tricky to adjust however. Another solution is the use
of a beam antenna. It turns out a north-east pattern is pretty good
from 20m! - 10m. The types of noise I get are many and range from
defective street lights, electrical appliances in the various homes
around me (touch lamps being the worse), and line noise. I've also had
problems with in-home burglar alarms. One of those was kind of fun as I
told the home owner I knew when he wasn't home :-) That got fixed in a
hurry! It seems that whenever I track down one source and get it fixed,
another appears to take its place! I'm not ready to give up yet.

Hi Terry,

TR4 transceiver has 3 6jb6 tubes so about 200 watts or so out

T4X transmitter has 2 6JB6 tubes so about 130-140 out

Im not sure why Drake did it that way or their rationale, but that's the way
it was done. Very awesome equipment. Easier to match 2 vs 3 tubes as well

Re: [drakelist] WTB Solid tube solid state tubes for B and C line

This is my own opinion I always heard the solid tubes(at the time) were a
compromise. I had heard they got pretty hot and at the time didn't offer any
advantages over the tubes they replaced. Today, some of the 3rd mixer stuff
is better replaced with Sherwood mods actually.

I also heard they didn't sometimes work in the circuit as well as the
original tube.

This is all hearsay, since I have no experience with them. I think they were
pretty rare too. Plus that was 30 yrs ago so there may be a lot of better
ways to improve the circuits now.

I use to think the L4's had the better tube cooling, but all it is is
quieter air flow. Not really adequate actually. The L7's dropped the pressurized
concept and went with the SB220 method. It just blew the air across the naked
tubes. It might be louder but its simpler and more effective. I have the L4B,
wouldn't mind having a L7 either.

The rumor is that this may work for the Drake AC4 as well. It was written up in qst a few months ago. Im not sure if there are parts differences or not. I need to contact himto confirm because I could use a few. I have 2 supplies that need fixing. If someone has more gumption then I do at the moment to tackle this, please let the group know if it works. 73

Hello,

Does anyone have a spare newer cabinet for the SP75? I was able to change out all my cabinets to the new style on my 7 line except the SP75. Thanks and 73

[drakelist] Drake Feet

2003-10-16 Thread EL34GUY
Hello,

Does anyone have any extra feet that I can turn upside down to elevate the fronts of 3 pieces of Drake gear? I guess that would mean I would need at least 6? Let me know what you have. Thanks a lot!! 73
