Hi, Toni--

Thanks -- unfortunately, we've done that, restarted Tomcat -- but with no
effect whatsoever. We'll keep trying, though.

[dspace-tech] DSpace 7.6 and CC licenses

2023-11-06 Thread Paige Morgan
Hi, all--

We're running a sandbox with DSpace 7.6; we've commented out the
jurisdiction in our config, and according to the documentation
,
that should result in 4.0 international licenses.

Unfortunately, what we're getting is 3.0 licenses, with the jurisdiction
permanently set to US. You can see the jurisdiction in the interface, but
you can't change it.

Has anyone else run into this problem? Anyone have suggestions for a
solution?

Thanks,
Paige

[dspace-tech] Embargo date can't be more than 3 years in the future?

2023-09-20 Thread Paige Morgan
Hi, all--

We're running DSpace 7.4, and we recently ran into an issue when trying to
set an embargo for an open-access version of a scholarly publication. The
publication has a 48-month embargo, but the interface won't let us set an
embargo date that is later than September 2026 (36 months).

I thought this might be a local setting for us, but I found the same limit
in the demo.dspace.org sandbox -- though I'm not finding any indication in
the documentation that
the 36-month limit is intentional. Is this a hard limit, or just a
configuration setting that we need to change?

Thanks in advance!

Thanks, Tim -- out of curiosity, is there anyway to unlock items once

[dspace-tech] deleting multiple bitstreams results in locked bitstreams

2023-06-02 Thread Paige Morgan
Hi all--

We've uncovered an unusual behavior in both our production repository and
our sandbox (both running DSpace 7.4). A colleague and I can mostly
reliably reproduce it in our instances -- it doesn't happen every single
time, but it does happen repeatedly. I have not yet been able to reproduce
this in the demo version, so it may well be something in our local config
-- but it's a weird phenomenon.

We use DSpace both for our institutional repository, and for our digitized
collection materials from Special Collections. For that latter set of
material, occasionally, we need to wholly replace a bitstream -- versioning
isn't appropriate. When we go in, and try to delete more than one bitstream
(by clicking on the trashcan icon for the selected bitstreams, and then
hitting the save button), *one *of the bitstreams is deleted -- but the
other ones selected for deletion become locked (previously they were
publicly available.) No one can delete them, and trying to access them
prompts users to log in, but eventually results in a 404 page, even though
the bitstream is still present, and the bitstream access policies all
suggest that it's functioning normally.

It's pretty rare for us to delete bitstreams entirely, which is why we're
just discovering this now, 7 months into running DSpace 7.4. But I'd still
like to get it sorted out, especially because it's making a couple of items
in our production instance inaccurate.

Has anyone else encountered anything like this? Thanks in advance--

Paige

[dspace-tech] Oddities around the Creative Commons license configuration in item-submission.xml

2023-05-12 Thread Paige Morgan
Hi, all--

We recently altered our item-submission.xml config file to start allowing
users to select a Creative Commons license during the upload process. It's
working, but for reasons that aren't clear to me, users are seeing two
options to select CC0 (see below). Other than uncommenting this step, we
haven't made any alterations to this part of the code.

Anyone have any ideas about what might be happening? Anyone experiencing
the same thing?

Thanks in advance,
Paige

[dspace-tech] Default labels for dc metadata fields

2023-03-08 Thread Paige Morgan
Hi, all--

My team noticed that when we add material to the field
dc.description.acquisition, it shows up in DSpace 7.4 with a field label
"Source." To my knowledge, "Source" isn't a DC default label. I'm curious:
is there a list somewhere of the labels that are associated with the
various dc fields that are available by default? (I'm not seeing it in
github, but I could be looking in the wrong spot.).

Are those labels customizable?

Thanks,
Paige

[dspace-tech] Re: unable to enable full text snippets or searching for DSpace 7.4

2023-01-03 Thread Paige Morgan
I figured I'd try re-boosting this in the new year, after not hearing from
anyone in early December. We've tried a number of things, but we're still
having no success turning on full text snippets for searches in DSpace --
and indeed, it doesn't seem like full text searching is enabled at all, and
that's a significant concern.

We've made sure that our Text Extractor Media Filter is turned on (per this
documentation
<https://wiki.lyrasis.org/display/DSDOC7x/Mediafilters+for+Transforming+DSpace+Content>),
and we've changed the settings in our discovery.xml file, including the
following code snippet from the documentation wiki on customizing hit
highlighting)
We're not concerned about snippets showing up from restricted or embargoed
items; that's fine. We've made sure to restart Tomcat.

Nothing seems to be working. If any of you have successfully enabled full
text snippets in 7.4, or you've been able to troubleshoot full text
searching, can you recommend what settings we might want to check?

Any recommendations much appreciated -- thanks!

Hi, Tim--

Yeah, I'm an Administrator, and was logging into the test site as an
Administrator as well. We *are* using Shibboleth, and indeed, the options
do appear if I reload the page, so I think this is likely the same bug.

Thanks!

[dspace-tech] Import and Export menus disappeared from DSpace 7.4 menu?

2022-12-13 Thread Paige Morgan
Up until recently, the side menu in DSpace 7.4 had options for importing
and exporting -- you can see them in this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CjH8VS2WDjE

As of this morning, those options have disappeared -- though it looks like
it's still possible to achieve the same functionality by starting with the

Is this a deliberate change? I haven't seen it mentioned as upcoming.

[dspace-tech] odd/faulty search behavior

2022-12-01 Thread Paige Morgan
This is something that I'm seeing in my local repository, but can also
reproduce in the demo site. I figured I'd check before submitting a bug
report.

If you search for a term (like "schools"), you get some results:
https://demo7.dspace.org/search?query=schools

Let's say you go to the 7th page of the results:
https://demo7.dspace.org/search?query=schools=7

>From that page, if you type a new term into the search bar ("All of
DSpace") or the magnifying glass search at the upper right, DSpace will
repeat the search -- but will hang on to whatever page you were at:

For example: if you search for "kittens", it will search to see whether
DSpace has a page 7 for "kitten" results, and it will tell you that there

But -- if you go back to the homepage, and then search for "kittens", then
you *do* get results: https://demo7.dspace.org/search?query=kittens

Is this a known bug? I don't see it on the Github site, but figured I'd
check before I submitted a ticket.

Thanks,
Paige

[dspace-tech] Turning on search snippets/hit highlighting generates snippets for some items, but not for others

2022-12-01 Thread Paige Morgan
We recently turned on the search snippets/hit highlighting
 function for our IR
(currently running DSpace 7.4).

It works, but only on certain documents. You can see an example of this by
searching our repository for "parties":
https://udspace.udel.edu/search?query=parties=2

All of the items in the search results have been OCR'd, so if you download
the item and search for the term, it's findable -- but I'm not clear on why
snippets would show on some items, but not on others. From what I can see,
this isn't format-based -- some PDFs show snippets, while others don't --
though it looks as though documents from our digital collections (digitized
newspapers and other documents) are much less likely to have snippets
available. Similarly, PDFs that were generated from slidedecks also aren't
showing snippets, and phrases from these sorts of documents don't return
any hits when searched for in our repository.

I'm concerned -- does this indicate that our indexing might not be
functioning effectively/completely, or that we might have turned on a
setting to selectively index some collections, and not others?

Any advice/recommendations appreciated.

Paige

Re: [dspace-tech] Export to CSV in Administrator Workflow

2022-11-30 Thread Paige Morgan
Hi Tim,

Thanks for this response! For use cases, I would find it helpful to have in
process workflow items exportable as a way of tracking what’s going on with
items that are in process, and/or that have been orphaned. When we were
running DSpace 5.3, there was no way for an administrator to even see
broadly what was happening, and what workflow items *were* in process. We
have a number of items that have been hanging out in that space, and this
is the first time that I've actually been able to see them.

My hope is that I can work on cleaning those up, and then not have so many
sitting around -- but I would find it very helpful to be able to check and
export a CSV periodically, just to check in with folks who use the workflow
setup.

Does that make sense as a use case?

Thanks again,
Paige

Re: [dspace-tech] Export to CSV in Administrator Workflow

2022-11-29 Thread Paige Morgan
To add on to this, I get the exact same response when I try this on the
https://demo7.dspace.org/ site.

I go to Administer Workflow (while logged in as administrator); it shows
1-10 of 67 total items in process. On the righthand side, there's an icon
to export search results as a CSV. When I click that, the process starts,
and finishes normally, and offers me a CSV that I can download (titled
metadataExportSearch). The spreadsheet is 14b, and its only content is a
top row for id and collection -- no other info is included.

It seems like this might be a more widespread bug -- can anyone confirm?

Thanks,
Paige
