Thanks Mark, that does clarify things for me.

And thanks also to Jason, who responded off-list, it's a great comfort
to know I'm not the only one affected by this.

But now, having downloaded the patch from:

https://issues.apache.org/jira/secure/attachment/12385608/HttpServletResponseBufferingWrapper-empty-response.patch

... I can't figure out what to do with it.

I had hoped to find a file with a similar name somewhere in the
dspace-src, to which I could apply the patch and then rebuild DSpace.
No luck.

Has anybody applied this patch or know what I should do with it?

Re: [Dspace-tech] Submitter login problem

2009-06-22 Thread Kim Shepherd
Hi Dorothea,

Given the /submission connection, I'm wondering if there are any problems
caused by an item that's been partially-submitted by the user (the items that
display in the /submissions page normally).

Perhaps you could check the Workflow/Unfinished Tasks out as your admin user,
and remove those that were submitted originally by the user having the problems.

If that doesn't help, the other thing I'd recommend is turning on debug-level
logging in Dspace in case that reveals a problem the logs aren't telling us now.
To do this, just change this line in [dspace]/config/log4j.properties:

log4j.rootCategory=INFO, A1

to

log4j.rootCategory=DEBUG, A1

Your logs will be a lot busier and won't be entirely easy to read, but it could
be worth a go.

Cheers,

Kim

Date:   30th/31st July 2009
Wiki:   http://wiki.repositoryfringe.org/

Sponsored by JISC, the Beyond the Repository Fringe 2009 event will be hosted
by the University of Edinburgh with support from the Digital Curation Centre,
the School of Informatics, EDINA, and Information Services, as well as UKOLN
and EPrints.

This year the Repository Fringe organisers aim to draw on and showcase a range
of inspirational repository developments, including those produced from the
JISC Rapid Innovation and Repository and Preservation programmes, plus various
'barcamps', 'hackdays' and repository challenges.

Designed for an audience of developers, repository managers and practitioners,
the programme retains an 'unconference' feel to it, and seeks to canvass
contribution from a wide range of repository actors for:

.   Live demonstrations of innovative work;
. "Pecha Kucha" presentations on any subject relating to current, or
future repository endeavours i.e. a presenter shows 20 images for 20 seconds
apiece, for a total time of 6 minutes, 40 seconds;
.   Round Table discussions;
.   Formal presentations or tutorials on related topics;
. A 'Code Challenge' (details to be announced shortly).

Keynote speakers will open and close Beyond the Repository Fringe 2009 and to
accompany this event there will be a DCC Associates' Network meeting (delegates
will be able to join the network and participate on the day) and a DISC-UK
DataShare workshop on 'research data requirements and digital repositories'.

The dates of the event coincide with the start of the buzzing Edinburgh
Festival season, which includes the Jazz and Blues Festival (31 July - 9 Aug),
the Festival Fringe (7 Aug - 31 Aug), the Edinburgh International Festival (14
Aug - 6 Sept), and the Edinburgh Book Festival (15 Aug - 31 Aug), as well as
the usual impromptu street theatre, musicians and sideshows.

Register for this free event and sign up for a 'performance' of your choice at:
http://beyondtherepositoryfringe-emailinvite.eventbrite.com/

University accommodation is available at pre-Festival prices on a first-come,
first-served basis. To book please contact the Bed and Breakfast Team on 0131

Re: [Dspace-tech] Metadata registry questions for herbarium project

2009-06-22 Thread Mark H. Wood
[there is a need for multiple metadata schemas in batch import]

It sounds like you are using the Item Importer. It appears that there
is an undocumented way to import metadata expressed in other schemae.
The importer always looks for 'dublin_core.xml', but it also looks for
any file whose name begins 'metadata_' and loads it in the same way.
The 'dublin_core' element in a metadata file appears to take an
optional attribute 'schema' naming the schema which defines the
metadata expressed in the file.

You would need to register the additional schema and the elements and
qualifiers which it defines. This can be done using the
administrative interface. It can also be done using the method found
in the Ant build.xml script under the 'load_registries' target if the
definitions are many. (If you do build a metadata registry file for
any additional schema, it would be kind of you to make it available
somewhere, such as the DSpace Wiki, for others to use.)

I have only just today discovered these features in the code while
checking my understanding of the Item Importer; I've never used them,
although I do use the Item Importer.

I think many would agree that additional concepts should not be forced
into DSpace's notion of Dublin Core, but should be provided as
a distinct schema.

Hi stuart,

Thank you very much for the information. I have rectified it. It is not
showing any errors when compiling. But it is not playing the mpeg,wmv
videos. The function is calling and the message is also appearing as *Videos
will be played here *as i have declared in the function. Can you please tell
me why the player is not able to load and play the wmv and mpeg files. Here
is the code which i am using.
  private void showwmvPlayer() throws IOException
{
 try
 {
Bundle[] bundles = item.getBundles("ORIGINAL");
if (bundles.length > 0)
{
Bitstream[] bitstreams = bundles[0].getBitstreams();
boolean found = false;
for (Bitstream bitstream : bitstreams)
{
if (!found)
{
if
(("video/mpeg".equals(bitstream.getFormat().getMIMEType())) ||

("video/wmv".equals(bitstream.getFormat().getMIMEType(
{
// We found one, don't search for any more
found = true;

// Display the player
HttpServletRequest request =
(HttpServletRequest)pageContext.getRequest();
String url =request.getContextPath() + "/bitstream/"
+ item.getHandle() + "/" +
   bitstream.getSequenceID() + "/" +

UIUtil.encodeBitstreamName(bitstream.getName(), Constants.DEFAULT_ENCODING);
JspWriter out = pageContext.getOut();
out.println("\n" +
"\n" +
"Videos will be
played here" +
"\n" +
"var elm =
document.getElementById('player1');\n" +
"var src = '/wmvplayer.xaml';\n" +
"var cfg = {&file:'" + url +
"&autostart=true',width:'320',height:'180'};\n" +
"var ply = new jeroenwijering.Player(" +
request.getContextPath() + "elm,src,cfg);\n" +
"");
}
}
}
  }
I am using JW wmv player for that.

[Dspace-tech] Problem with LDAP Authentication

2009-06-22 Thread Dr. Ahmad Al-Zubi
Hello List
Did any one find a solution for my problem with LDAP authentication? sorry
for resending the same messege, I need your help.
Problem Description:
Icant login with userid, I can only do that with full name.
I'm trying make Dspace 151 do ldap authentication aginst AD (MS 2003)
  Our ldap directory contains users with their CN and under user's CN there
  are attributes(sAMAccountName, mailNickNamme,sn, mailadress,)
  Our ldap tree contains users like,
 DN (CN = Ahmad Ali Al-Zubi,OU=Regular Users,OU=KSU-USERS,DC=KSU,DC=LOCAL)
  Attribute: mailaddress [EMAIL PROTECTED]
  Attribute: sAMAccountName=aalzubi
  Attribute: mailNickname=aalzubi
  Attribute: givenname = ( . )
  Attribute:
when i am trying to setup the LDAP authentication the olny way it works,
   is giving in dspace.cfg in LDAP authentications settings,
  ldap.id_field = CN
  so on in dsapce login page i have to write in the field
  *Username or Email address*:Ahmad Ali Al-Zubi

as you see this the full name (display name) and I want people to sign in
with their usernames not full name (sAMAccountName, or mailNickName)
  but when they try do login with email or uid it doesnt works.
  How can i define ldap.id_field in order to do authentication using
username (sAMAccountName, or mailNickName) or mailladrees(attributes of
every user's CN).
Please see the configuration I have and logs in the attached files.
  I would be very gratefull if you could help me.

Re: [Dspace-tech] UIUtil month > -1

2009-06-22 Thread Allen Lam
Hi,
I am not the author of the related codes but I am interesting in reading
source codes.

According to my understanding, the reason behind the -1 design was
defined in org.dspace.content.DCDate, where -1 means undefined value for
year, month, day, hours, minutes and seconds.
DCDate is based on Calendar class of java. 0 is not a good choice to
represent undefined value because 0 is a valid value in
java.util.Calendar for y,M,d,h,m,s. (e.g. 0 means January when it is a
month value).

In dspace usage, when there is only year value with no month and day,
submitters can just put in the year value (e.g. 1930) then sorting will
be done correctly.

Cheers,
Allen.

[Dspace-tech] UIUtil month > -1

2009-06-22 Thread Jochen Lienhard
Hi,

I have some metadata-sets, which only contains a year (no month and day).
For sorting I put the date in like this 1930-00-00.

In the short view I get now a funny date: 0-Uns-1930

I dont know the month 'Uns' ;-)

So my question.

Why did you programm month and date > -1 and not > 0 in UIUtil.java?

Greetings

Jochen
