Re: [Dspace-tech] Browse and Search Handle-Server

2015-03-24 Thread Monika C. Mevenkamp

index-discovery is the command that creates and updates the solr index

Your solr server is up iff you do not get any exceptions when running this
command.

To fully build the index run the command with the options -b -s

You should also have a look at your solr server. Find instructions on the
DSPACE wiki about how to get access from your locally running browser :
https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSPACE/Solr.

Choose the ‘search’ index in the drop down on the left and have a look whether
there is anything in the index .

make sure you do have discovery enabled in your dspace.cfg file
event.dispatcher.default.consumers = versioning, discovery, eperson, harvester
or even more authoritatively run the command
DSPACE_DEPLOY/bin/dspace dsprop -property event.dispatcher.default.consumers

[Dspace-tech] Custom metadata schema in input-forms.xml

2015-03-24 Thread Roger Gillis
Hi everyone,

I'm trying to customize my input-forms.xml to create a customized
submission that contains references to a new metadata registry that I have
enabled:

I have a series of fields that look like this in my input-forms.xml:

   field
 dc-schemase/dc-schema
 dc-elementsubject/dc-element
 dc-qualifiergeographic/dc-qualifier
!-- An input-type of twobox MUST be marked as repeatable --
 repeatabletrue/repeatable
 labelSubject Keywords (Geographic)/label
 input-type
value-pairs-name=sespace-geographicdropdown/input-type
 input-typedropdown/input-type
hintEnter appropriate subject keywords describing geographic
region of the resource or phrases below. /hint
 required/required

   /field

I have created a new metadata schema (se) and put the element and qualifier
in as well. Yet, I get this error when I attempt to update input-forms.xml
as noted above:

org.dspace.app.util.DCInputsReaderException: Error creating submission
forms: org.xml.sax.SAXException: Form sespace, field subject.geographic has
no name attribute

Would anybody have an idea of steps I might have missed (e.g. with adding a
new metadata schema in the registry, or otherwise...)

Any help appreciated...

2015-03-24 Thread helix84
First of all, upgrade to 4.3 which fixes a number of security issues.

Make sure you're not running Tomcat as root. Use authbind or Linux
capabilites or iptables. The possibilities are described here [1].

Make sure that you're using HTTPS at least for the login page
(xmlui.force.ssl is one of the ways to acheive that).

This list is non-exhaustive. For a more conceptual approach, check out [2].

2015-03-24 Thread Andrea Bollini

Hi,
there is an extension of DSpace named DSpace-CRIS that extends the
dspace data model to other entities including but not limited to the
researcher profile.
You are able to create an expert directory, use these information during
the submission to properly recognize author in publication and much more.
All the additional entities play nicely with all the dissemination
feature of dspace as the discovery search and browse system.

Please take a look to the project website

and the Hong Kong University installation, currently the big DSpace-CRIS

Also, if the permissions have been wrong in the past at some point, sometimes

remove

and make sure you got a proper value_pairs list defined like:

dc-term=se_subject_geographic

displayed-valueTHE VALUE TO BE DISPLAYED/displayed-value
stored-valueTHE VALUE TO BE STORED/stored-value

Re: [Dspace-tech] REST API not seeing new bitstreams

2015-03-24 Thread Peter Dietz
Hi Ben,

DSpace 4 (4.0, 4.1) had a bug that would result in stale information being
presented by the REST API.
https://jira.duraspace.org/browse/DS-1986

The solution was to use a new context for each request, and ensure that
we're closing the context at the end of each request.

This has been fixed in DSpace 4.2 and 5.0

[Dspace-tech] Moving items in DSpace 4.1 (JSPUI)

2015-03-24 Thread Gary Browne
Hi all,

Since upgrading to 4.1, when we move an item and check 'inherit default
policies of destination collection' the following happens:

* destination collection policies are inherited
* original collection policies are not removed

I'm told that previously (on DSpace 1.8.2) the original collection policies
were removed (which is what we want to happen).

Any ideas on why this is happening?

Thanks,
Gary

This is a permissions problem. Tomcat needs to have write permissions on

permissions and restart tomcat -- hopefully that will solve the issue.

This is a permissions problem. Tomcat needs to have write
permissions on your [dspace]/solr directory and all its
subdirectories. Change the permissions and restart tomcat --
hopefully that will solve the issue.

[Dspace-tech] Error after install of DSpace 5.1

Andrea and Royopa:

Thank you for your suggestions. I did check and my tomcat (tomcat 7) is owned
by my dspace user as is my solr index, so tomcat should be able to write to the
solr directory (it works OK for 4.2). So, I am not sure what is causing the
permission problem, but I will keep checking.
