Re: [Dspace-tech] theme mirage2

That is likely due to a bad build. We saw that when Maven wasn't able to
get to some of the repositories needed for the build due to FW restrictions.

[Dspace-tech] DSpace 5.1 and proxy usage

2015-07-28 Thread Shannon Meisenheimer
Hi all,

We are trying to configure DSpace 5.1 to use our proxy server. I've
configured the following in dpace.cfg:

# If enabled, the logging and the solr statistics system will look for
# an X-Forward header. If it finds it, it will use this for the user IP
address
useProxies = true

 Proxy Settings ##
# uncomment and specify both properties if proxy server required
# proxy server for external http requests - use regular hostname without
port number
http.proxy.host = xx.x.xxx

# port number of proxy server
http.proxy.port =

... But our server admin is telling me traffic is still hitting local FW
and not the proxy (specifically google analytics). Is there something else
in dpace that needs proxy configuration?

I added these configuration parameters after the build/install. Is that
the issue?

Thanks,
Shannon

Re: [Dspace-tech] Disable Handle?

2015-07-24 Thread Shannon Meisenheimer
The metadata export didn't delimit properly. May be due to some commas in
the text_value field not getting escaped or encapsulated properly. The
data didn't line up quite right with the headers when viewed in Excel. I
was reluctant to import it back in.

What I did instead was run this update against the metadatavalue table in
the database.
-
UPDATE metadatavalue
SET text_value = REPLACE(text_value, 'http://hdl.handle.net/', '
http://centralspace-test.ucmo.edu/handle/')
WHERE text_value LIKE 'http://hdl.handle.net/%'

Any existing records unfortunately will need manually updating, as the
dc.identifier.uri field will contain a value starting with
http://hdl.handle.net/; http://hdl.handle.net/. If you have a lot of
these existing records, your easiest route towards doing these updates is
to use the Batch Metadata Editing capabilities in DSpace:

 https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSDOC5x/Batch+Metadata+Editing

The Batch Metdata Editing tools let you export metadata records to a CSV
file, which can be opened using Microsoft Excel (or similar spreadsheet
tools). You can then find the column in that spreadsheet for
dc.identifier.uri, and *update* all values starting with
http://hdl.handle.net/; http://hdl.handle.net/ so that they now begin
with [dspace.url]/handle/ (where [dspace.url] is your DSpace's URL).
Make sure to retain the number-based identifiers at the end of those values
 (obviously).

Once you've updated the spreadsheet values, just upload the spreadsheet to
update DSpace itself. Much more information on the process is in the
 documentation that I linked above.

 Good luck,

 Tim

  Hi Shannon,

While DSpace shows URLs that include the word handle by default, the
actual handle server is actually not configured by default.

It sounds like you may just be wanting the URI that is displayed on Item
pages to no longer start with http://hdl.handle.net/
 http://hdl.handle.net/; http://hdl.handle.net/. If that's the case
you can easily tweak that in your build.properties.

It's the handle.canonical.prefix setting in that file:
 https://github.com/DSpace/DSpace/blob/master/build.properties#L148

If you want it to simply be the URL of your Dspace, you can change this
 setting to be:

 handle.canonical.prefix = ${dspace.url}/handle/

After changing that setting, you will need to rebuild redeploy DSpace
(which will cause the setting to be propagated to your live dspace.cfg
 file):

 cd [dspace-src](i.e. source directory)
 mvn clean package
 cd dspace/target/dspace-installer
 ant update

 Finally, restart Tomcat.

Re: [Dspace-tech] Demove word Dspace Repository

2015-07-14 Thread Shannon Meisenheimer
Check 'dspace\config\news-xmlui.xml' if it isn't there it may be in
'dspace\webapps\xmlui\i18n\messages.xml'.

I can't remember which, but I believe all the references to 'DSpace' in the
web pages are in those 2 files. We called our repository CENTRALspace so
I had to replace DSpace wherever it existed.

Those paths are the post-install paths, not src-package paths.

[Dspace-tech] Running DSpace 5.1 Behind a Proxy

2015-07-07 Thread Shannon Meisenheimer
Hi All,

What in DSpace and dependent applications need to be configured for use
with a proxy server?

I've read the documentation regarding Maven proxy configuration. As I
understand it, that is to allow Maven through the proxy to pull in remote
assets as it is completing the build.

What about the DSpace application itself? I do see in the in the DSpace
log org.dspace.statistics.SolrLogger has a useProxies entry (currently
false) and see outbound traffic hitting Google Analytics and various web
crawlers.

Our technical services team would rather add the FW exceptions to the proxy
server instead of pulling our application out from behind the proxy and
applying local FW exceptions to the server itself.

Thanks,
Shannon

Registration of a new user causes a message to be sent to that user's
email address. The first thing I would check is whether the outgoing
mail server ([DSpace]/config/dspace.cfg: mail.server) is configured to
allow your DSpace host to send mail to hosts outside of mrc.gm. It's
possible that your institution requires specific authorization for
 that.

If that is not the problem, then I think that we will need more
information. Specifically, any messages from dspace.log from a few
seconds before to a few seconds after after the failure.

The timestamps from those messages would also help you to ask the
person responsible for your mail server for any log messages from that
 service which might be helpful.

[Dspace-tech] Build DSpace Installer on Different Machine

2015-07-01 Thread Shannon Meisenheimer
Has anyone tried building DSpace (Maven) on a different machine and then
moving the resulting src package to the server for Ant install/update?

We are pretty sure we are fighting network restrictions on the server when
building DSpace 5.1 with Mirage 2. I'm running 'mvn -U clean package
-Dmirage2.on=true -X c:\Maven5_1.log' using Maven 3.2.3 and after
installation, pdf delivery is very slow (sometimes 10-20 minutes).

I was thinking I could build the package on my workstation where I'm not
being firewalled as heavily and then transfer to the server for install.

We've had our network team add FW exceptions allowing outbound from the
server to any destination on ports 80, 443, and 9418 and outbound to any
for the server in our proxy, but still are seeing some performance issues
post install. Setting up the proxy in Maven had no effect.

Does Ant use anything other what it is in the source package during
install? I noticed maven created a bunch of files in my user'e temp folder
(win server).

Thanks Tim, I had read some of those, but hadn't seen the third. I'll try

convert from cmd when I call/run it directly, but DSpace is trying to use
Windows convert.

Is the double extension .pdf.jpg normal?

Do Ghostscript and ImageMagick need to be in the same folder? I know it
states to install them both to /usr/bin (linux path) in the documentation,
but is that needed on a win box?

We had the thumbnail generation working on an earlier install of 5.0 with
the applications in their respective default install locations.

Hmmm.. it does sound like an error related to trying to use the wrong
convert command (as you noted Windows has it's own convert.exe
command). This StackOverflow answer says something similar:

 http://stackoverflow.com/a/26163068

After some searching around, it seems like there's a few
options..admittedly, I haven't tried *any* of these though:

 1. These 'im4java' docs seem to imply the correct path syntax for Windows
is C:\\Program Files\\ImageMagick (and you can specify multiple folders
 separated by semicolons): http://im4java.sourceforge.
 net/docs/dev-guide.html

 2. The StackOverflow answer above says that installing the *portable*
version of ImageMagick and Ghostscript may resolve this issue.

 3. Another option may be to tweak your PATH so that the ImageMagick folder
appears *before* your System32 folder. That solution is mentioned in this
blog post on ImageMagick + Windows: http://savage.net.au/
 ImageMagick/html/install-convert.html

Again, I haven't tried any of these. But, if you find something that does
work, please do let us know. We can then update the official Documentation
with a recommended setup for Windows.

Re: [Dspace-tech] ImageMagick errors

2015-04-15 Thread Shannon Meisenheimer
It was an issue with DSpace not being able to find ImageMagick
convert.exe, even though the path and environment variables are properly
defined. You do have to set the path in dspace.cfg, but that in itself is
tricky as none the following worked:
--
- C:\\Program Files\\ImageMagick
- C:\Program Files\ImageMagick
- C:\Program Files\ImageMagick
- C:/Program Files/ImageMagick
--

Monkeying with the registry or modifying sys32 applications was a last
resort for me, so what I tried that worked was:

   1. Install ImageMagick and Ghostscript to c:\dspace\imagemagick. I
chose a lower case for the subfolder not knowing if config definitions for
file paths in dspace.cfg would be case sensitive. I went with the
   assumption that they are.

   2. Define
   'org.dspace.app.mediafilter.ImageMagickThumbnailFilter.ProcessStarter' in
   dspace.cfg as '${dspace.dir}/imagemagick'.

Turns out the relative path did the trick. ... Or it could be that Program
Files has a space in it, I would think quote encapsulation would deal with
that. Either way it's working now :)

Thanks all,
Shannon

Thanks Tim, I had read some of those, but hadn't seen the third. I'll

DSpace is trying to use Windows convert.

Is the double extension .pdf.jpg normal?

Yes, this is just the extension of the *generated* PDF thumbnail (by the
ImageMagick media filter). You actually may want to see if those referenced
.pdf.jpg files were generated on your local system -- if so, that'd mean
that ImageMagick actually *did* create those thumbnails (or at least
started to do so, but ran into a later issue).

Do Ghostscript and ImageMagick need to be in the same folder? I know it
states to install them both to /usr/bin (linux path) in the
documentation, but is that needed on a win box?

Yes. Well, actually, they either need to be in the same folder OR you'd
need to specify TWO paths in the org.dspace.app.mediafilter.
ImageMagickThumbnailFilter.ProcessStarter setting. Since that setting is
just passed directly to the im4java script (from imageMagick), it seems
like you should be able to specify multiple folders separated by a
 semicolon, as noted here: http://im4java.sourceforge.
 net/docs/dev-guide.html

But, again, I'm going to admit, I've not tried that (especially on
Windows). I'm only just getting more familiar with the ImageMagick code
myself, so this is just from my reading of the existing code here.

It is also possible there's a bug here in how the ImageMagick media filter
is referencing the scripts and/or generated thumbnail files. But, I don't
know enough yet to state that for certain.

Re: [Dspace-tech] ImageMagick errors

2015-04-14 Thread Shannon Meisenheimer
I assumed that was the output file (thumbnail)...

If it isn't, I wouldn't have any idea what those files are. All 220 errors
(there are 220 titles) show the same double extension.

Thanks,
Shannon
