Re: [Dspace-tech] [Dspace-general] digital image collections

2009-04-04 Thread Walker, David
These are great, Kim!

I'd like to add some snippets as well. However, Michele mentioned in a
previous email that We would like to use JIRA(jira.dspace.org) as a central
spot to describe and host manakin themes.

I personally would rather use the wiki. But if others want to use JIRA that's
cool. Seem like we should agree on one spot, though. So . . . which should we
use?

I've created a Wiki page for snippets/recipes, hopefully themes can be linked
to from there as well:

http://wiki.dspace.org/index.php/Manakin_Themes_and_Recipes

My initial layout might need tweaking, but I thought I'd have a go at getting
the ball rolling on this while I had a snippet to share.

I have a few more recipes to put up, but will wait until I know I'm on the
right track with this wiki page..

Cheers,

Kim

A central source for open DSpace Manakin themes would therefor be

I agree, and have for some time... but to get forward motion on this,
best to bring it forward on the dspace-tech list. If we could get a
small flash mob together asking for this, it might actually happen. :)
Just me asking for it (as I have, several times) is unlikely to
accomplish anything, as I am a notorious annoyance.

Re: [Dspace-tech] [Dspace-general] digital image collections

2009-04-04 Thread Mark Diggory
Although Michele has recommended this initially, I d not think that JIRA
will suffice and you will end up with the same situation as the SF trackers
and stale coded. An SCM management tool should be used for themes that could
be deployed and used by the community simply as DSpace XMLUI war overlays.
In this case I recommend the following for 1.5.1/1.5.2:

1.) We put together an appropriate example maven war project for packaging
your theme... It can simply be a copy of modules/xmlui with
groupId/artifactID named to your own liking.

2.) We provide a place for those who wish to maintain such themes against
different versions of DSpace in SVN where they can be properly version
controlled. I will be announcing such a place in the near future as I am
working on a now community SVN polit at Oregon State Universities Open
Source Labs. http://dspace.osuosl.org/svn/dspace

3.) We publish these webapp modules to the
http://maven.dspace.orgrepository such that they can be used in your
project simply by adding them
as a dependency.

One an overaly is added to your build process, copies of the theme or aspect
would show up in the projects traget directory and final build...
