[Dspace-tech] Using DSpace for hosting Past Exams Online
Hi All, I have an in-house Past Exams Online running on Linux, Apache, Mysql and PHP (LAMP). In the in-house system I have tables contain the relationships between Faculty, Departments, Course Codes and Course titles. During data ingestion (uploading a past exam script), the use simply selects the course code and the other pieces of information such as the course title, department and the faculty are selected in the background without the user input. Now I want to implement the project on DSpace. My question is it possible have the value of a given metadata field, e.g Department been a function of another value, which could be in another separate table, say. I have successfully installed dspace in my library one of the dspace installation is being used as academic repository but i have another installation for intranet only and want to use it only for libraries Administrative, and financial documents. These documents needs some specific fields to enter, like, document number date of letter sent, sender and receiver name etc. Is there any dspace theme or specific form that can provide me something similar to this. Or is there any one who have already made something like this. It will be very helpfull for me to archive all the documents of the my deanship of library Affairs. Hi Kamal, what you're referring to is called metadata and DSpace can store and display it just fine. All you need to do is log in as administrator, go to Metadata registry, create a new metadata schema (namespace) and then define any metadata fields you need. They will display by default in the full item view, but you can also edit the template to display it in the summary view, too. How you do that depends on the dspace version, interface and theme you are using. [Dspace-tech] Using Dspace to search numeric ranges
Hello, Hopefully someone can help me. I am using Dspace to search over numeric index ranges for both floats and integers. I see where it does numeric searches but the results returned are sometimes not the expected results for example if i use key:[10 TO 14] if a document is present with a key of value 1000 that is returned with the other documents. The reason for this is that Think it is retuning the lexicographic ordering of the search. How can I configure Dspace to return the numbers in numeric ordering? I think if I use solrqueryparse instead of the default lucenequeryparser may this would solve the problem. Also I have downloaded and tried solr 1.4 release and it seem to work as expected when try numeric range queries on the examples given. Can this be used in the version of dspace that I'm using version 1.6.2. If so how should I do it in Dspace. Hi Pavan, I should point out first of all that the MySQL patch is pretty much unsupported and quite untested - it's provided to get feedback and maybe encourage a few people to support it. That said, the two files are fairly straightforward - database_schema.sql is a replacement for the schema provided for Postgres, and should be used to prepare your database tables. The naming_patch.txt is a patch file that should be applied against the 1.4.x source, and corrects the casing of the tables in the SQL queries (as MySQL is case sensitive by default on *nix), and also add a couple of small compatibility changes to the database manager. You will also need to add the MySQL JDBC jar to the lib directory, and set up your db.url and db.driver entries in dspace.cfg appropriately. G This email has been scanned by Postini. hi! Udd, (1) dspace uses tomcat for web access. For metadata storage postgresql database is used and digital contents are stored in bitstreams in the DSpace assetstore directory.
