[DX-CHAT] Postal thieves
I studied my local postal thieves and concluded: A note about postal theft: Thieves who steal mail on a regular basis seek envelopes that form a pattern: (a) many similar ones to the same address, (b) thickness more than 1 paper sheet, and (c) from rich countries. Thieves doing this regularly can not be stopped by inserted carbon paper, valuables hidden inside inner envelopes, or other tricks because they simply open ALL envelopes fitting the pattern, take the valuables, and destroy the rest (thus destroying the evidence of their theft). Some thieves steal only for rare or odd stamps. Ham radio QSL mail makes a very easily identifiable pattern that simply can not be defeated by the usual tricks, so skip the tricks. Instead, try Registered Mail or, if desperate, use FedEx, UPS, or DHL. Even if you disguise your mail to look like an advertisement, the determined regular thieves may well steal EVERYTHING to an address known to get QSLs. It is highly unlikely that your one QSL envelope will be left untouched for theft by someone who rips open all the other QSL envelopes. Example, trying to make it harder on the thieves with tape does not stop theft, it only irritates the intended recipient if it does arrive. The lesson is that all our tricks are failures, with very rare exceptions. 73 Charles Harpole [EMAIL PROTECTED] _ See what youre getting into before you go there http://newlivehotmail.com/?ocid=TXT_TAGHM_migration_HM_viral_preview_0507 Subscribe/unsubscribe, feedback, FAQ, problems http://njdxa.org/dx-chat To post a message, DX related items only, dx-chat@njdxa.org This is the DX-CHAT reflector sponsored by the NJDXA http://njdxa.org

[DX-CHAT] Traveling with $100
World travelers who are lucky enuf to have a pocket full of USA one hundred dollar bills... even the latest version... beware. If u are leaving on a DXpedition and expect to pay your way with $100 bills... thus getting the best exchange rate compared to $20, etc. spend all those very green backs soon because Uncle Sam is ready to issue an even newer $100 note in a few months. Many foreign banks will now only reluctantly accept the existing $100, even if crisply new, and these will be refused as soon as the even newer bills get into action, I guess! Don't I wish I had this problem! 73 Charles Harpole [EMAIL PROTECTED] _ Learn.Laugh.Share. Or follow 5H3EE's very successfully and sensible lead using PayPal... Because I know your XYL likes to deal with the QSLs... Request on qrz.com that the QSL SAE is sent direct without cash and the postal money paid into your PAYPAL account. 73 Dave Subscribe/unsubscribe, feedback, FAQ, problems http://njdxa.org/dx-chat To post a message, DX related items only, dx-chat@njdxa.org This is the DX-CHAT reflector sponsored by the NJDXA http://njdxa.org

They have not been produced in the US since the 1960s and can no longer be redeemed for silver. However, they are worth more to collectors, especially if they are in good condition. 73, Barry -- Barry Kutner, W2UP Newtown, PA Subscribe/unsubscribe, feedback, FAQ, problems http://njdxa.org/dx-chat To post a message, DX related items only, dx-chat@njdxa.org This is the DX-CHAT reflector sponsored by the NJDXA http://njdxa.org

Re: [DX-CHAT] Postal thieves
That option has been offered to Charles a number of times. I had offered to perform that task for him prior to his permanent move to Thailand several years ago. [DX-CHAT] cures for postal issues
You asked, so... Why I like to receive and send QSLs myself here in sunny Thailand: 1. I enjoy receiving, opening, examining and reading my own mail (like the guy who wants to be the first to read his morning newspaper). 2. I can involve my wife in my expensive and time-away-from-her hobby by her answering my QSLs. She also enjoys opening mail and looking at all the interesting cards. She is polishing her English by reading them and by writing the return cards. She likes doing it. 3. I enjoy the personal touch QSLs give me. A hobby is about enjoyment. BTW, the folks here have cleaned up their act and now the postal boss here personally receives and initials and holds my mail in his desk for my pickup at p. o. box. And he will not take a tip for the extra service. Another BTW... honorable DX stations DO NOT MAKE MONEY on QSLs... a myth abounding amoung the uninformed. Thanks for all the thoughtful commens re my earlier message. 73, Charles Harpole HS0ZCW [EMAIL PROTECTED] _ Booking a flight? [DX-CHAT] LBOTW
And u asked... LogBook Of The World why I do not use this great service: 1. I log onto old fashioned paper. 2. I choose to do other much more interesting things than data entry. 3. I find LBOTW very difficult to use. And I have tried, and had help, still failed to get it. 4. Upload times are long and expensive. 5. I am just set in my ways, a product of a maturing factor. 73 Charles Harpole, HS0ZCW [EMAIL PROTECTED] _ Find a local pizza place, movie theater, and more .then map the best route! http://maps.live.com/default.aspx?v=2ss=yp.bars~yp.pizza~yp.movie%20theatercp=42.358996~-71.056691style=rlvl=13tilt=-90dir=0alt=-1000scene=950607encType=1FORM=MGAC01 Subscribe/unsubscribe, feedback, FAQ, problems http://njdxa.org/dx-chat To post a message, DX related items only, dx-chat@njdxa.org This is the DX-CHAT reflector sponsored by the NJDXA http://njdxa.org
