[DX-CHAT] CT9M QSL route
Thanks to all who replied. Any info about CT9M QSL routes applies to previous users of the call, which I was already aware of. I just worked Lali as CT3/VE3NE on 40m. He said to send the CT9M QSLs to him. I would add that this is only for this present (Jan-Feb 2005) CT9M activity. While we're at it, we could put in enough data to have the PC auto tune the rig to the freq., turn on the DSP, work the station and send and entry to LOTW for immediate gratification while the op is miles away at work. Re: [DX-CHAT] DX Cluster help/suggestion
Hi Tim - There is something oddly backwards. I've invested years in assembling my station, antennas and in developing my listening and operating techniques. If I can hear the DX, I can usually work it in far less time than it would take to format a spot let alone a multi-field spot. Frequency and call is all I need. I know of a very accomplished DXer at the HR Top who never uses tenths in his spots. He gets you close but you still have to do a little tuning - perish the thought. I'd rather be operating than managing data! Cheers 73, Steve WB6RSE On Friday, October 10, 2003, at 11:05 AM, Tim Makins, EI8IC wrote: It certainly would be handy if all spots were submitted in a standard way, perhaps a 'form' for manual input, as then, the computer processing of spots would be made a lot easier. I think a lot more programs would use spot-data if only it was not so varied in format. 'Standards' are slowly creeping into logging - maybe 'spots' will be next. 73s Tim EI8IC

I have watched the ARRL video of the mobile test that W1RFI made in late July of the four areas where BPL is being tested and I was appalled by the level and type of interference that BPL causes in the HF spectrum (even though W1RFI said that the radiation was within the FCC limits). [DX-CHAT] Top of the HR? RTTY
The latest Top of the HR listing on the ARRL website shows two stations at 333 on RTTY, two below the overall top of 335. A curious note says that no one is at the HR Top on RTTY. Within a year after CW DXCC first started in January 1975, the Top of the CW HR was what ever the players had submitted which could be 100 or more below the mixed/phone overall number. In fact, there could be gaps - that is, no one had any claim in one or more of the numeric nine numbers below the CW Top (usually held by Bob, W9KNI). So if there was one gap you could actually be 10 below the top and still on the CW HR. Two gaps, two below and still on, etc. I would think that 333 should be the top for RTTY which would add two number on the bottom end and pick up a few more for bragging rights for the RTTY HR. What changed? 73, Steve WB6RSE (PS - I've been licensed since '59 and can claim exactly zero Qs on RTTY.) Re: [DX-CHAT] Top of the HR? RTTY
Wayne - Thanks for the clarification. I expected it was a rule change. I do believe it should be the old way. It was certainly deserved to see the two listed at 333 but under the old scheme there would be a few more recognized. It's of no consequence to me as I don't chase RTTY. As you point out: Note that the old way takes care of the situation where something is added to the list before it is activated. Yes! Had the new rule been in place when P5 was added to the list but not activated, instantly NO ONE would have been at the Top of any HR and that would have been silly! I can attest to the fact that gaps did move the low end down in the early years of the CW award. The HR was the top ten populated numbers, not simply 9 down from the top number. I recall being one away from making the CW HR if a gap remained but someone filled it so I had to wait a bit longer! I was rather disappointed at the time, to say the least! 73, Steve WB6RSE Subscribe/unsubscribe, feedback, FAQ, problems http://njdxa.org/dx-chat To post a message, DX related items only, [EMAIL PROTECTED] This is the DX-CHAT reflector sponsored by the NJDXA http://njdxa.org

Re: [DX-CHAT] What is DX?
I too floated the idea of a suspended list many years ago and it met the same fate. Now that I revisit it: Imagine that a suspended country became active and worked, say, only three stations. It could take another 10 years or whatever the inactivity period to suspend before it was suspended again. This would knock the guys on the lowest rung of the HR off. So we'd need an activity criteria to be reinstated as a country from the suspended list. How many Qs would be enough? 1, 10, 100, 1000? What if the Qs were all JAs? Clearly a no-win situation. On another front, the new DXCC is clearly the Challenge but by not starting fresh and allowing the OTs to scour their QSL files, the League missed an incentive opportunity for the relatively newer DXers. Not exactly a level playing field. In pushing for a fresh start, I pointed out that W4DR would be the first winner and the next 10 were equally easy to predict. In the Challenge a golden opportunity was missed. 73, Steve WB6RSE (Self admitted OT) On Thursday, July 10, 2003, at 03:22 PM, [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I proposed this very idea a number of years ago and never got past the first person: the idea of a suspended list - or whatever word you wish to choose - for those countries/entities not on the air for a certain reasonable period of time. Perhaps 10 years is not long enough, but someone above my pay grade can decide those sorts of things. Your list, even minus P5, might be too long for a large number of people to accept. Re: [DX-CHAT] DXCC Listings
A current total for everyone one on the DXCC lists has to be known otherwise the asterisk could not be printed. The data is the all there. It's a matter of which way it's cut. One is a deference to longevity (absolute total), the other to competition with recognition of long term accomplishment (current total sort with a slash absolute #). Neither cut says anything about a super station, QRP, or whether you worked a bunch of tough ones on 160 from one side of the country and then moved to the other side and worked a bunch more. Or whether or not you've even had a station for the last ten years but your buddy throws your call into all the pile ups and that keeps you on the Honor Roll. Only you know that and to first order, no one cares. I'm certain that there are DXers out there who have Honor Roll achievement but who've never submitted cards. They really don't care! They do it strictly for themselves. My point is simple: If there is a listing, it should be useful and not primarily a celebration of age. The present listing scheme is antiquated. It would be like listing baseball standings after the World Series with the Yankees always at the top because they've won more than any other team. Come to think of it, wouldn't that be a great enticement for youngsters to get interested?!
