Re: [DX-CHAT] 7O1YGF License?

2005-03-08 Thread Kelly Jones
I don't want to start any type of political war, but if I'm not mistaken I
believe Ed was asked to leave about the same time NK re-started it's nuke
program and political activies around that. I believe nearly ALL
non-nationals were expelled at that time.

I'd be willing to bet Ed's QRT had nothing to with the "proper
authorities" learning about his operation. I suspect it was because of
much more political reason.

RE: [DX-CHAT] 7O1YGF License?

2005-03-07 Thread mausoptik ltd
Well said!

NK not a nice regime. You can guarantee that any country calling itself
"The Peoples Democratic Rebublic" of whatever is NOT run by the people,
it's NOT democratic and it's NOT a republic - it's a totalitarian
dictatorship. The fact that Ed got the rulers of such a state to give
him permission to operate ham radio speaks volumes for the man.

The fact that Ed didn't get a bullet to the head is all the "proof of
authorization" needed. He had a beam antenna in a country where no
citizen is even allowed access to the internet or long distance phone
service. If Ed didn't have "authorization", he wouldn't have made it out
of the country. North Korea is a far different situation than anywhere
else on Earth and if you can't get past your petty jealousies to
undestand that, then maybe you should give up DXing.

Ed didn't need to produce a license, because there is no licensng body
in North Korea, because there are no provisions for any civilian radio
services in North Korea at all. No commercial radio, no CB, no FRS, no
TV and no amateur radio. No radio services means no licensing body.
Understand this? That's why Ed has no papers.

Quit complaining about the ones you don't have or the ones that you have
that don't count and work the ones that come along and hope they
eventually count. DXing isn't fair! Deal with it and move along or find

Yes Ron it should be good if the same criteria could be also used with the

Re: [DX-CHAT] 7O1YGF License?

2005-03-07 Thread Ron Notarius
Mome,

I am relieved to hear that the 7O1YGF license actually exists! Now, can you
have your sources send a copy of the actual license to Newington? I know
for a fact that upon the arrival of that license copy, which will clear up
once and for all the question of whether or not 7O1YGF had proper authority
to operate, that the operation will be approved and all will be well.

You see, there's a little problem with the (for lack of a better term)
conspriacy theory regarding the to-date non-approval situation with 7O1YGF.
Everyone screaming bloody murder seems to be under the impression that there
is some mysterious or malevelont force (sometimes located in Maryland,
sometimes in Newington, sometimes somewhere in California, or sometimes in
Scandinavia and/or other points depending on the politcal slant of the
theorist telling the tale) standing in the way of this one counting. But if
you ask one of the guys up in Newington, they'll tell you a slightly
different story -- they WANT to count this one, and have tried to figure out
a way to do so to date. But without a license or other proof of proper
authorization... they can't.

...and no, I can't say in a public post who my source is, as it could put
said individual in an uncomfortable position, and I have too much respect
for said individual to do so.

The bottom line with this operation is very simple: If (as many claim) the
license exists, produce it. End discussion.
