RE: [DX-NEWS] W4BPD Gus Browning logs question
As I recall, Jim, Ack has been SK for many years and Gus' logs have disappeared. Short of a miracle, I think you're out of luck on that QSL. However, do some searching on Google to see if it can offer you any assistance. Found some info that logs probably got destroyed. W4ECI was the QSL manager I understand, anyone know if he is alive? Story is that I just found a QSO in one of my old logs with VQ9/A at 6 August 1970, I never did QSL the QSO and I can not understand why. Anyone know if Gus was on Aldabra 6 August 1970? [DX-NEWS] Re: VE1XT SK
Just a short note of thanks, on behalf of myself and his family, to all who e-mailed their condolences following the untimely death of Jack Columbus, VE1XT. Jack was laid to rest next to his parents yesterday afternoon following an extremely emotional funeral attended by friends from the community and from far away. Perhaps Jack will find Geoff, VE1GW up there and they'll form a contest club. Jack died two months to the day of Geoff's passing. 73 Al, VE1AL --- To unsubscribe or subscribe to this list. [DX-NEWS] VE1XT SK
It is my sad task to inform the DXing community of the death earlier today of my best friend Jack Columbus, VE1XT. Jack was first licensed in 1961 as VE1AIJ and changed (after my constant badgering) to a two letter suffix in the late 70s, becoming VE1XT. Jack and I became friends when we were about 13 or 14 years old, having been SWLs prior to our being old enough to obtain Canadian Amateur Radio licenses. That friendship continued up to today when Jack succumbed to liver cancer that had been diagnosed about three years ago. He and I competed to see which of us would be first to reach the Honor Roll for DXCC and I won by a couple of weeks (at least that's the way I remember it). We both were at the top of the HR at one time. In recent years, however, Jack had become less interested in radio as his cancer spread. Jack and I travelled annually to W2AX's QTH in the Vermont hills to operate the CQWWDX SSB Contest, travelled together over a dozen times to the Dayton Hamvention and in the early 90s did a trip to both Visalia and to Dayton in the same year. Jack was 64 years old, just 11 days younger than me. He was the brother I never had. 73 Al Leith, VE1AL --- To unsubscribe or subscribe to this list. [DX-NEWS] A3WS
I'm planning to put together an A3WS that has recently come in to my possession. I've had to do a few repairs on end tips and one broken trap end but otherwise the antenna is in good shape. I have a photocopied manual and cannot see if the elements are mounted on the under side of the book or on top. The manual doesn't indicate which way they go. I assume from the few pictures I have looked at on the net that the elements go under the boom. Am I correct? 73 Al, VE1AL --- To unsubscribe or subscribe to this list. [DX-NEWS] Lost log - bulletin editors please note
Due to my own stupidity, I have lost the DXbase log I keep from October 11, 2008 through December 1, 2008. While I don't necessarily want to have QSLs, I would like to try to rebuild the log information. If it is possible, would those stations who worked me through that period please send me the log information including your call, the date and time of the QSO and the band on which we worked. I know it will be impossible to rebuild the log but any and all pertinent information would be appreciated. I would also appreciate it if the DX bulletin editors could pick up this request and publish it in an upcoming issue. He passed away Friday at his home. Osten was a longtime subscriber to the Daily DX, a major source of DX news for us, a great history reference and a good friend to many, including to W3UR. The ARRL's DXCC Manager, NC1L, Bill, says Osten joined DXCC in 1967 and has been very active ever since. Osten was appointed a DXCC card checker in November, 2000 and has been, says NC1L, one of the more active European checkers. Osten was #1 Honor Roll for both Mixed and Phone, CW Honor Roll, and needed just one, P5. He had DXCC on all bands 160- 10M and 5BDXCC. NC1L says, "When an issue stumped the DXCC guy, Osten always came to the rescue!" SM5DJZ, John, will carry on with the DXCC program for Swedish hams. The two had divided this task. But, John notes that Osten was QSL manager for some 9Q stations - he doesn't know who will pick up that task. -- Jim Reisert AD1C/0, <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, http://www.ad1c.us -- Archives http://www.mail-archive.com/dx-news@njdxa.org THE DXR is sponsored by the North Jersey DX Association. I also have several thousand cards for CY9DXX, CY0DXX, CG1B & VF1L (extremely rare Canadian prefixes) that are waiting to be filled out. Re: [DX-NEWS] VE Postal rates in 2007
Unless I am mistaken, Nenad forgot to add the ridiculous Canadian Gouge and Screw Tax (GST) to the list of rates he quoted. While the increase may well be to $1.55 for overseas standard letter rate, $0.93 for the US and $0.52 for domestic letters, in fact: As of Jan.17, 2007, Canadians living west of the New Brunswick border will add 6% to the cost of the postage increase and it will be: Overseas: Cdn$1.64 US: Cdn$0.99 Domestic: Cdn$0.55 HOWEVER Canadians living in eastern provinces will pay an additional Horrifically Stupid Tax (HST), (i.e. an extra 8% to the GST) for a total of: Overseas: Cdn$1.77 US: Cdn $1.06 Domestic: Cdn$0.59 I am unable to verify this rate increase on the Canada Post web site but have seen at least one reference to the planned increase from a fairly reliable source. Gosh, I hope no more new DXCC entities are invented. 73 Al, VE1AL Hi All, We just finished off discussion on VE postal rates versus 1$ US, when I checked the postal rate increase planned for 2007. Re: [dx-list] Re: [DX-NEWS] VE Postal rates in 2007
To be honest, I'm not sure if Canadians outside the Maritimes have to add the Particularly Stupid Tax (PST) which would be determined by their province. That could made a postage stamp worth a different amount in some provinces. Re: [DX-NEWS] Tokelau
If the new prefix E5A-E5Z has been allocated for the Cook Islands does anyone know how the North and South islands are differentiated by prefix? For instance, in my DXBase ZK1/N and ZK1/S are used to differentiate right now. Personally I would have preferred they'd kept ZK1 because E5 is pretty awful on CW :-d. BTW, if it wasn't for CW I wouldn't have made any QSOs in the IOTA test because conditions were horrible here. 73 Al, VE1AL __ At 02:11 PM 7/31/2005, you wrote: I saw this article on Tokelau posted over on rec.collecting.coins.
