[DXR] off topic: to IC746 756 Users

2001-09-03 Thread Maciej Muszalski

hi!

i'm looking for a honest answer from guys who worked both on ic746 and
756
or who can describe (in an easy to understand language) which one of
those trx is better

I can either buy a new ic746 or a 2/3 years old 756 for the same price,
i'd rather go for the new trx.. but.. there is that "but". What are the
real differences between those two? (except of 2m)

if someone can help i'd be thankful.

last when i asked abt the 746 i got few opinions like : better buy 756.
But Why?

[DX-NEWS] IC746 MODS TNX FOR HELP

2001-11-02 Thread Maciej Muszalski

TNX to all who replied with links and descriptions, many of you shocked
me because in your
i was asked why i need that or that i felt like a radio pirate. Pse
remember that law is different in many countries.
Someone replied with a list of reasons why you need out of ham band
tx... well it is my reply to all of you guys to quit that stupid msg
exchange on the dxr

and pse learn to reply to private not to the DXR , someone might not
like to read our msgs
btw: i got a reply from one of EU Icom dealer that my diodes set is one
of the newest and that is why all the schematics published on the www
are for other vers. of ic746

1. why so many of you replied to dxr and to my priv. .. instead to my
priv mail only?

2. my father and i we are members of the civil defense emergency radio
net

3. polish law allows to have a rig with tx possibilities on any qrg you
want as long as you don't tx where you are not licensed to. Same as you
might have a car that goes 700mph but you are not allowed to travel with
that speed at public roads.

4. why you look from a US-FCC point of look = every person is a possible
radio pirate? Here in Europe we do things different, and that is why
ic746 in stores here in Europe are already unlocked (factory unlocked),
i bought a US ver. (in USA) because it was some 1/2 cheaper than EU-Ver.

MAYBE THAT WILL QUIT SOME STUPID ANSWERS... I ASKED PEOPLE ON THE LIST
BECAUSE I CONSIDER YOU A GROUP OF EXPERIENCED HAMS WHIT LOTS OF
KNOWLEDGE ON
MANY SUBJECTS... I THINK MY MAIL WAS IN PLAIN ENGLISH... I WAS ASKING
FOR
HELP IN MODS NOT FOR A LESSON OF AMERICAN COMMUNICATION LAW - REMEMBER
IT IS AN
AMERICAN LAW AND NOT EVERYONE HAS TO HAVE THE SAME.

Subject: [DXR] Carrying radios via airlines??

DXers... could you email your method ...now after fateful day of
9-11... of carrying ham radios via commercial airliners?
  I. E.:
  1. hand carry-on now too difficult?
  2. checked luggage carrying radio worked out ok or was radio stolen from
  bags or was it damaged?
  3. any success in shipping radio via common carrier, etc? Costs?

  4. what about laptop computers?

Keep my request in mind, because u may not be traveling for months from
 now
or even years. Thanks for your help. de K4VUD Charly

Hi!

some 24h ago i came back from Greece... and to be honest... chill out guys... as
long as you are a ham and your trx iis n the main baggage it is ok... i had my photo
equipment with me in my hand bag... my tripod in the main baggage + my cell phone,
had my house keys with me... (posssible weapon - sharp metal :-)
i went through all the gates... no questions... just a peacefull journey... now i
know that i could take my trx with me... i think there is no need to be afraid if
you are O'K

Re: [DX-NEWS] ham DXpeditions also operating 11m?

2002-12-04 Thread Maciej Muszalski

William Hein, AA6TT wrote:

I am astonished by the number of ham DXpeditions who are also
operating on 11m 'freeband'.

For example, the recent ham DXpedition to The Gambia appears to
have also operated on 11m as 118AT/DX with freeband QSLs to
310AT102 (aka YL3CW). These callsigns apparently assigned by the
Alfa Delta organization in Italy.

I've heard that many, many other ham DXpeditions also fire up on
11m 'freeband' (Temotu, Chesterfield, East Timor, etc.). Icom
France is even financially supporting freeband DXpeditions which
means they must be selling a lot of ham gear to freebanders.

Casual Websurfing will reveal that the freebanders are perhaps
even more active than hams in mounting DXpeditions. And going to
places (like VU7, YVO, SV/a) that hams can't easily go. And
tagging along on a lot of ham DX outings.

Is this the DX equivalent of Napster? What does this mean for
our DXing hobby in the long run?

Bill AA6TT

As an ex AT member i can tell that since i remember the best part of the AT (most elite club on 11m for a long long time)
were HAMS, i only got interested with ham because i was able to operate (DX) on 11m
i got more and more interested in getting more pro. .. and i ended up on HF ... 11m went into history
there are lots of guys like me... here in Poland most of SQ callsigns are people who got ingo radio via CB and CB Dxing

depends what u understand under DX if DX is only a QSO with a station
from another continent - then this question is not for that group
but if DX is also a SWL or RX of a distant station from another
continent - then yes the question has a lot to do with DX
