[Dx-packages] [Bug 1308296] Re: Allow for other calendar applications to register with Unity calendar indicator

2016-05-12 Thread SunBear
I submitted a question which looks similar to the requests mentioned in
this topic. https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/293639

I am affected and hope a fix can be committed.

Title:
Allow for other calendar applications to register with Unity calendar
  indicator

Status in indicator-datetime package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
It appears that Unity's calendar indicator (in the global menu, right-
side of the screen) is hardwired to launch Evolution if an event is
selected. In System Settings, the only checkbox relevant to this is
to show "Coming events from Evolution Calendar".

It'd be nice if instead the Unity calendar indicator would launch the
  user's chosen default calendar application.

I'm not suggesting that the calendar indicator quit using Evolution
Data Server for calendar information, just which application is
launched in response to a user event.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1577414] Re: Adding time zones to locations of indicator-datetime

2016-05-12 Thread Robert Orzanna
Dear Matthew,

Thanks a lot for your follow-up comment!

> We would have to start maintaining a parallel database that mapped
tzdata zone names, in and out of daylight saving, to their common
abbreviations. Common names would be even harder because they’d need
translating into multiple languages.

The only open point I can read from your comment is actually this one.

How do you suggest to proceed? Would it be worthwhile maintaining a
parallel database and what could the potential contribution of users
look like to this project?

~Robert

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1577414] Re: Adding time zones to locations of indicator-datetime

2016-05-12 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
There are two separate issues here: choosing the time zone as an item in
the first place, and displaying it in the menu once it’s chosen.

For choosing the time zone as an item, you can already do that with UTC,
because we made sure “UTC” is special-cased as something you can search
for. In theory, we could do the same with all the time zone names, and
first-letter abbreviations of all the time zone names: no dialog, just
make them options in the menu.

Right now, though, there is nothing in Ubuntu that knows the names or
abbreviations of any other time zones — because the time zone database
we use (tzdata) doesn’t contain them. It contains information about all
the daylight saving changes for a zone called “America/New_York”, going
back to 1918 … but it can’t tell you that when in daylight saving, the
“America/New_York” zone is called EDT. We would have to start
maintaining a parallel database that mapped tzdata zone names, in and
out of daylight saving, to their common abbreviations. Common names
would be even harder because they’d need translating into multiple
languages.

For displaying the time zone in the menu once it’s chosen, multiple time
zones with the same abbreviation is not actually a problem. As shown in
this screenshot, it’s already the case that you can add multiple cities
with the same name and they aren’t distinguished. We trust that either
you won’t do that, or that you’ll know which is which. The same could be
true for time zone abbreviations.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1581089] [NEW] Clock app opened when closing Alarms

2016-05-12 Thread Rodney Dawes
Public bug reported:

Recently, when my alarm goes off in the morning, and I tap the OK button

clock app is opened. The clock app should not be opened whenever I
cancel an alarm.

This is on rc-proposed on hammerhead (Nexus 5), but I don't see any

Every few days a dialog pops up saying "Authentication is required to change

password the dialog will reappear with an empty entry field. If I click on the
cross to close the window many times it will be gone, but reappear a few days
later. I don't know what this window is for and it makes no difference whether
I close it or leave it. I don't use the gnome keyring.
This started with Ubuntu 15.04 or maybe with an earlier release, and is still
there in Ubuntu 15.10, also on machines I did a fresh install.

Bug description:
  * Impact

Sometimes useless "Authentication is required to change your own user
  data" prompts are displayed

  * Test case

  $ ssh -X localhost
  $ /usr/lib/policykit-1-gnome/polkit-gnome-authentication-agent-1 &
  $ dbus-send --system --print-reply=literal --dest=org.freedesktop.Accounts
/org/freedesktop/Accounts/User1001
org.freedesktop.Accounts.User.SetXHasMessages boolean:true

  that shouldn't trigger a prompt

  * Regression potential

it allows the change to be done without prompting in more cases,
shouldn't have an impact on cases which were already working

  --

Every few days a dialog pops up saying "Authentication is required to change
your own user data" with an entry field for a password. If I type my user's
password the dialog will reappear with an empty entry field.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 787736] Proposed package removed from archive

2016-05-12 Thread Martin Pitt
The version of appmenu-gtk in the proposed pocket of Precise that was
purported to fix this bug report has been removed because the bugs that
were to be fixed by the upload were not verified in a timely (105 days)
fashion.

** Changed in: appmenu-gtk (Ubuntu Precise)
Status: In Progress => Won't Fix

Title:
RebuildData structs are leaked in rebuild() / do_rebuild()

Status in AppMenu GTK+:
  Fix Released
Status in appmenu-gtk package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in appmenu-gtk source package in Precise:
  Won't Fix

Bug description:
  [Impact]
This issue affects most and any users of appgtk-menu, such as nm-applet,
especially in environments (such as offices) where the detected wireless
networks change a lot, and where roaming can occur frequently. See also: LP:
#780602

  [Test Case]
  Run nm-applet for multiple hours:
   - Observe that the VPN Connections submenu still opens and lists connections
(if VPN connections are configured)
   - Observe that the "More networks" submenu for additional detected wireless
networks still opens and lists networks.

A common failure case is where such a submenu will open but show an
empty list (a piece of menu a few milimeters long).

  [Regression Potential]
Minimal, the fixes have been available for a while in the development release
(and in other recent releases) with no regressions.
Possible issues could be introducing new memory leaks with the changes
however, and although the risk is minimal, this could cause the same failure
behavior as listed above under [Test Case].

  --

  Binary package hint: appmenu-gtk

The rebuild function creates a hash table mapping the toplevel to the
g_timeout id responsible for doing the refresh.

The rebuild function allocates a RebuildData object to pass to the
do_rebuild idle function. The do_rebuild callback function frees this
  object when it is called.

However, the do_rebuild function isn't guaranteed to be called. In
fact the whole point of the hash table seems to be that the callback
can be canceled. When that happens, the RebuildData object isn't
  freed, causing a leak.

Additionally, instead of storing a proper reference to the toplevel in
the RebuldData object, a weak pointer is stored instead. But if the
weak pointer gets set to null, the do_rebuld function will lose its
only copy of that pointer, so it will have no way of cleaning up the
associated entry in the hash table.

Bug description:
Desktop Unity Notification Daemon does not support buttons, not like almost
other desktops (see attachment). The possibility to add buttons for the
developer of software would be really helpful.
  E.g. Roger (http://en.tabos.org/home) a tool for the VOIP/SIP-Router Fritzbox
shows incoming calls and the notification gives you the options to Accept,
Decline, Cancel or Ok the call. But as the unity notification daemon does not
support buttons roger falls back to the not elegant GTK-window.
It would be great and helpful if the notification daemon would have the
options for buttons. According to this bug report
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-ux/+bug/1384730) Unity8 will have it,
hopefully also the desktop versions.

[Dx-packages] [Bug 1475942] Re: Unity Notifcation Daemon does not support buttons

2016-05-12 Thread James_pic
This seems to have taken on a new significance with Xenial, and the
migration to Gnome Software Center. I'm getting an "important OS and
application updates are ready to be installed" message from Gnome
Software Center, but the "View" and "Not Now" buttons are missing.
