[Dx4win] Telnet issues
All: I continue to have telnet connection problems with DX4WIN. For some reason, the connection (to DX4WIN) goes to sleep after anywhere from 20 minutes to 2-1/2 hours. I have tried keeping my connection alive by utilizing other program pinging techniques, but that has not resolved the issue (if I constantly do a sh/dx or other command the DX4WIN spotting connection does not fault). I note that the Beta Logger 32 by K4CY has a keep alive feature built into the telnet spotting feature. I can stay connected forever using this program -- even without user intervention, so I know it is not my internet connection that fails. Am I missing anything in DX4WIN that can mitigate my problem? 73, Dan -- N3ND

Hi Dan, I think it has to do with the node you connect to. I can connect to K1EA, W1GQ, K8SMC or KE9KD using DX4WIN 5.03 or 6.02 and have NEVER had a disconnect problem. I have cable modem service, am networked through a local-area (home) router, and do not run any kind of keep-alive software anywhere. 73 - Jim AD1C = Jim Reisert AD1C, 7 Charlemont Court, North Chelmsford, MA 01863 USA +978-251-9933, [EMAIL PROTECTED], http://www.ad1c.com PGP Fingerprint: D8E2 3D78 339F A7F1 8C13 1193 B5D1 4FB6 79D1 70DC

I occasionally connect to the cluster via telnet through K4JA. I am typically disconnected after a prolonged period of inactivity (six or more hours or so). I just assumed that was normal node behavior in order to prevent too many inactive people from staying connected and tying up computer resources. Apparently, that is not the case with Jim. I am using a DSL connection through a networked LAN also. What's going on then? 73, Joe Jim Reisert AD1C wrote: Hi Dan, I think it has to do with the node you connect to. Jim: I'd be inclined to agree with you if I didn't try using Logger 32. With Logger 32 I remain connected indefinitely to my favorite (K4JA) or any other telnet cluster. Not so with DX4WIN. I am using a cable modem and router in a similar configuration as you. When I get home tonight, I'll try a couple of the telnet clusters that some previous responders suggested to use. I'll let everyone know of my findings. Dan -- N3ND In a message dated 9/16/2003 12:36:57 PM Eastern Daylight Time, [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: Hi Dan, I think it has to do with the node you connect to. Hi All... When I want a high speed connection I also connect to W1GQ, K1EA or K1TTT and I ALWAYS get disconnected after a while! I'm using 6.02 on a Win 2000 machine through a DSL connection. It must be some sort of an ISP function. 73, Roger

I downloaded a copy of Logger 32 for a test. I can't get it to connect to W1GQ. Do I need a value in the PORTS box? If so, I can't find it listed anywhere. I'm connected to K1XX for the test. 73, Roger

Hi Dan and Group I know that there have been some updates to many of the nodes. I have just done an update to my node (na2na.net) that may help disconnects. These effect only AR-Cluster nodes. Many of the ones Jim mentioned are AR-Cluster nodes. Please try my node, many users use it and have no problem (or none that I aware of). Let me know if I can help... No matter who I connect to I get disconnected using dx4win. Maybe an email to paul vander and ask him to write something in the dx4win program to make sure there is an Automatic Reconnect would be the solution. [Dx4win] Re: Telnet issues
Hi Gang, I've been reading the posts on telnet issues, and have one of my own to post. I too have an intermittent problem with DX4WIN dropping my telnet connection. To try to ascertain if the problem was one of DX4WIN dropping the connection, I started using AR USER, a cluster program from VE7CC. This program allows me to connect to the cluster and use a local telnet loopback port as DX4WIN's connection to the cluster. I.E., I connect to the cluster with AR USER, and connect to AR USER from DX4WIN. I have noticed that DX4WIN drops me from AR USER at times, even though AR USER is still connected to the cluster. The connection to AR USER is within my own computer, so lan connection problems, modem connection problems etc., are taken out of the possible cause loop. I don't have any suggestions as to why this is happening, so therefore, no comments on how to correct this behavior. There doesn't seem to any pattern to this behavior at all. BTW, AR USER is a great cluster program, with a lot of neat features for easily setting up cluster parameters, auto re-connect, etc.. You can download it at www.dxc.ve7cc.net 73 Don

I don't think it's an ISP issue. Many of us have installed DX-Telnet to handle telnet for DX4Win Writelog. With DX-Telnet running there is NO disconnection from the same telnet sites that routinely get disconnected using DX4Win alone. 73 de Terry KK6T At 01:32 PM 9/16/2003 -0400, Roger D Johnson wrote: Hi All... [Dx4win] AR USER loopback instructions
I've had a request to post instructions on how to do a local loopback from AR USER to DX4WIN...here they are. 1. In AR USER, click on configuration, then on ports. Make sure that under Local Network, TNC is checked. 2. Edit the DX4WIN file dx4win.tcp and add the following address 127.0.0.0:7300 Start AR USER, and connect to your local cluster. Start DX4WIN, and in the packet window, connect to 127.0.0.0:7300 (this is the local telnet loopback port) The spots from AR USER should now be flowing through to DX4WIN. That's all there is to it.
