Re: [Dx4win] DX4WIN 8.02 SAME CALL Window Advice

2010-04-22 Thread ALAN ZACK
For problem number 1 all I can suggest is enlarging the SAME CALL window
while you are performing the QSO checks for the same call. Just put the
cursor over the lower edge of the window and drag to enlarge it.

For problem number 2 the automatic pop up help can be turned off. The
function will still be available with a click of the right button of the
mouse when over the SAME CALL window.

BTW, I am still waiting for confirmation of a 160 mtr Baker County, OR, QSO
from Joe sent with my SASE with a GS enclosed.

Subject: [Dx4win] DX4WIN 8.02 SAME CALL Window Advice

I just got done processing over 1,000 cards for NK7U as his QSL manager.
This is the first batch of cards since upgrading to DX4WIN 8. There are
still a couple of things about the SAME CALL Window that are driving me
crazy and I wonder if anyone out there knows if there are fixes for these or

if they are in the works. Or, is there a way I can get this input to the
DX4WIN team to seriously consider?

Anyone out there who processes many cards for a large log, and NK7U's is
over 250,000 qso's, will run into the same problems.

The general problem is this. With a card in hand I enter the callsign into
the Callsign field and then hit enter. This brings up all the QSO's with
that station in the SAME CALL window so I can choose which one to confirm
and set for a label in order to reply. The two issues are this.

1. DX4WIN automatically loads the OLDEST QSO into the QSO window and
highlights the oldest QSO in the SAME CALL window and scrolls to the bottom
of the qso list in that window. If the card is from a station with which we
have had many QSO's, and all the QSO's can't be displayed in the SAME CALL
window, this means the QSO I need to select is off the top of the list and
I have to scroll the whole list up to the more recent QSO's. Is there a way
to have DX4WIN automatically load the NEWEST QSO and display the more recent

QSO's in the SAME CALL window.

2. When you start to move the cursor in the SAME CALL window a Pop Up Help
is displayed saying Double-click to go to QSO. Though it disappears
after a moment it often covers up the information, date and time, that I
need to identify the correct QSO. Though the help is probably helpful for an

occasional user it is a nuisance after you have seen it 25 times, not to
mention 1000 times. Is there a way to turn this on and off? [As a comparison

the DX Spots window does not have the same Pop Up Help. It is just common
usage that you double click on the spot to load it into the QSO window. Why
does the SAME CALL window have to have this help. It has been there for many

versions now, I had hoped this issue would have been worked on by now.]

Thanks everyone for your help.

Re: [Dx4win] Test something 4me?

2010-04-22 Thread Ray Sirois
Thanks you guys for your input and help.
Got it working... Old logs coming up FB in v.8!

The IDE to USB device purchased at Staples appears to be
the culprit. All the log files were arriving corrupted as they
were copied off the old hard drive. So, this morning when hooking
the old hard drive up to a different machine which had an IDE bus,
I copied my old log files off, then transfered them to the
new laptop... and the logs all come up no problem.
Looks like I found the latest one... with 10,805 qsos in
it.
SO, I'm doing much better now...

Last but not least is getting a USB to 9-pin serial cable so
I can have rig control... Those seem to be hard to come
by for 64 bit Windows 7 machines!

Well, can't actually run the old version. All I have is the hard drive
off an old computer (window95). So I am counting on the new ver 8 (on
win7-64bit) to be able to import, open,or merge. But I'm getting corruption.
Since others here are saying it should work fine cuz it worked great for
them, I now suspect my IDE-USB connection tool to not be 100pct reliable. R

Export the old files into the DX4Win format them import them into the new
version selecting the appropriate version. Should work.

Those of you who have upgraded to version 8.x

Could you try importing, opening, or merging OLDer
DX4WIN log files if you have 'em?

I've been fighting with old 2002-2004 (version 4 and 5 ish) log files
I have on an old hard drive. I can't get them in to my
 newly upgraded version 8.

Lots of problems with lots of files. Can't believe it is
the old files...cuz none of them work.

 Help!

[Dx4win] Where is ?

2010-04-22 Thread Ray Sirois
Where is the toggle to have DX4Win NOT ask to save the qso
as I navigate the cluster, jumping from station to station?

I prefer it only save a qso if I hit Enter.

They're isn't one, Ray. Otherwise one could lose a QSO s/he was
trying to log. It's better to be safe than sorry.
