[Dx4win] DX4WIN Backup
I currently backup my DXL file to an external hard drive. But I would like to start doing backups to an offsite online site. I currently back up my Quicken files to the Quicken online backup site but it only holds 1 GB and costs $49.95 a year to use. I would like to find another online backup site that will allow me more storage for my DX4WIN DXL file backup, Quicken B/U, some of my word docs and photos. I have looked into Windows Cloud and SyncToy but can't determine the size or cost. Best Buy sells 30 GB storage for $49.99 a year on their SugarSync site. I am curious to what online backup sites others may be using and can recommend. Re: [Dx4win] DX4WIN Backup
Hi Alan es all, The best solution to safeguard your entire DX4Win save directory is by installing Dropbox on your computer. Here is the url = http://www.dropbox.com/. It is FREE and it works great. After you installed dropbox on your computer you do the same thing on your laptop (if you have one) and share the DX4Win save file. It is not neccesary to have dropbox on a second computer but i do this because i want to have all my data syncronised on both my PC and laptop. In DX4Win preferences at the QSO tab you need to define the secundary backup directory. The path is use looks like this: C:\Users\Vanderydt Theo\Dropbox\DX4Win Save. Now the good thing about Dropbox is that both your computer can crash and your save directory will still be available in dropbox because your file is somewere in cyberspace on a remote site. No one, except you, has access to this file so no need to worry that some one else can play around with your valuable data. This is hopefully what you have been looking for. Re: [Dx4win] DX4WIN Backup
Guys, I take my Save directory and attach it to an email and send it to my Yahoo email account. I then move it to my DX4WIN folder on Yahoo. It is free (I like free) and virtually indestructible. Yes, it requires an internet connection...but then again so does this mail list! And if anyone wants to hack my DX4WIN folder on Yahoo, they can have at it!...and if Yahoo goes out of business, then we are more trouble than looking for a place to back-up our DX4WIN files! CD-ROM and thumb drives are great, as long as you store them outside the home. Virtually useless in case of fire, flood, tornado, acts of God, Grandchildren and hungry dogs. 73 and Good Luck in CQWWcw... Re: [Dx4win] HELP REPORTS DXCC
On Fri, Nov 18, 2011 at 7:33 PM, Dusty Chapman k...@verizon.net wrote: Help - I have never used the DX4WIN SUBMISSION feature and probably will never use it. However, I tried to update my DXCC summary last night and totally messed up. I had under MIXED - 1 country CONFIRMED, nothing under submitted, 340 under CHECKED, 341 under TOTAL, and 341 under TOTAL CONFIRMED. I wanted to change my CONFIRMED to 0 and my CHECKED to 341 The easiest way is to do a DXCC Submission action. Make note of the QSO (s) that was submitted. Now close your log without saving it, then open your log again. Go to that QSO. Hit F5 enough times to see the award flags at the bottom. In the DXCC column on the Mixed row (I assume you're talking MIXED here), change the flag to 'C' (checked). Check your DXCC totals again, they should be as expected. Or you could just submit the QSO, then using the Award Flags action in Reports, change Submitted to Checked. If you need to clear the submitted or checked flags of multiple QSOs, Go to Reports, then choose DXCC and click on the Award Flags button at the bottom. There are actions to clear submitted and clear checked. Make sure to do this for DXCC Mixed, DXCC Band and DXCC Mode, they are three separate award flags. This application note might be helpful: http://dx4win.ad1c.us/appnotes/dxcc.html I don't know why you would change Confirmed to Checked without going through the Submitted stage first, unless you never updated the award flag when you submitted the QSO, and are in cleanup mode. Also I would not use Checked unless the ARRL DXCC Desk has actually given you credit for that entity. 73 - Jim AD1C -- Jim Reisert AD1C, jjreis...@alum.mit.edu, http://www.ad1c.us __ DX4WIN mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:DX4WIN@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
[Dx4win] QSX Info
All, I am missing something about the QSX frequency when spotting DX that is operating split. I never have a QSX frequency indicated and must input it manually. The rig and PC communicate with each other. That is, when I change the frequency on the rig, the PC bandmap follows. Likewise, when I click on a frequency on the bandmap, the rig changes to that frequency. However the QSX frequency for my spot always is 0.00. I assume this is a configuration issue but I can't locate the problem area. Any help would be appreciated. Re: [Dx4win] DX4WIN Backup
Thanks Roger, I already back up to an in house 1 TB ext HD. Problem is IF (Heaven forbid) the house burns down or my computer stuff is stolen the stuff on the in home ext HD would be gone also. I have no problem with an internet connection. I use COX Cable. It is very reliable and is always online. I believe a good online backup provider would have good enough security to prevent hacking. The company going out of business (or being unreliable) is a possibility. I tried QUICKEN online backup that comes with the Quicken program. When I filled up my basic allotment of storage and attempted to buy more I ran into a brick wall with their tech support in India. We went around and around and I finally told them to cancel my account. I responded to Theo directly that DROPBOX looks like a good way to go but is expensive at $120 a year. I am now looking at CARBONITE and MOZY mentioned on Jim, AD1C's, web pages. I am also curious if anyone has any experience with SUGARSYNC offered by Best Buy. -Original Message- From: dx4win-boun...@mailman.qth.net [mailto:dx4win-boun...@mailman.qth.net] On Behalf Of Roger D Johnson Sent: Monday, November 21, 2011 6:52 AM To: DX4Win@mailman.qth.net Subject: Re: [Dx4win] DX4WIN Backup I'm skeptical about storing info on one of these online services. 1. Because I use Dropbox, there's a copy of my DX4WIN log on about 10 machines, including my Android phone and my iPod. I'd have to work hard to lose it. If they go out of business for some reason, those copies will still be there on the various endpoints- nothing lost. 73, -Rick -- Rick Murphy, CISSP-ISSAP, K1MU/4, Annandale VA USA __ DX4WIN mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:DX4WIN@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

On Mon, Nov 21, 2011 at 5:23 PM, John Holmes w9...@arrl.net wrote: However the QSX frequency for my spot always is 0.00. I am going to assume you are using an ICOM radio. ICOM radios do not have a split bit inside the frequency control logic that software like DX4WIN can read to determine whether the radio is transcieve or split, so the software always defaults to transceive. Only the -7600, -7700 and -7800 have added this feature (with updated firmware), but Paul hasn't quite got all the kinks worked out yet. I've been using it with my IC-7600 and while the QSX frequency is recorded in my log and I can spot the QSX frequency, there are some polling issues which interfere with tuning the Tx VFO when in split mode. If it's NOT an ICOM radio, then I don't have a good guess.
