Re: [Dx4win] Antenna Bearing Issue

2017-12-10 Thread Paul van der Eijk
It is actually more convoluted than that:

In all steps, we use the info only when it is know (not empty)

1. Grid 6 characters
2. IOTA
3. US County
4. Grid 4 characters
5. US State
6. Country

Hello,

I heard a station in Prince Georges County in MD. I live in Eastern PA in

The DX4Win program is telling me to turn the beam towards the 262' bearing.
I am using the latest Flying horse CB on CD. But according to the QRZ web
site the bearing should be 210'. This is a 52' difference.

I doubled check my Preferences on the Grid Locator and Longitude and
Latitude and all is correct.

Just wondering if there is something I am missing or is there a small issue
with the bearing in the program.

DX4Win uses the following parameters in the order of preference to
determine the US stn to US stn bearing (disclaimer: as far as I know):

1. Grid (only if the station had already been logged with a grid filled)
or op enters it manually

2. State (if known, maps the bearing to center of state?)
3. Country (bearing from the Countries db, probably Washington DC)

This means that bearings may vary wildly for US-US contacts, especially
for close stations, and unless the Flying Horse supplies the grid,
disregard them.

[Dx4win] Antenna Bearing Issue

2017-12-10 Thread Ron Polityka
Hello,

Today while doing a little Hunt and Peck in the ARRL 10 meter contest I
notice an issue with the bearing heading in the latest upgrade.

I heard a station in Prince Georges County in MD. I live in Eastern PA in
Berks County.

So far I like the new version and I do understand there will be a few bugs
to work out.

[Dx4win] WAS Reports Error

2017-12-10 Thread Bud Governale, W3LL
Reports>WAS

The last entry right after WY Wyoming is #1 in the St state column and W in the
State name column.
MIX, PHO, DIG, 160 and 80 columns each have a W in them.
Each W when clicked opens up to report in the entry window.

How does this erroneous State get fixed?

I agree, as well.
DX4WIN is great, as is, now that the new modes are recognized.

I've also pondered a lot about this and agree with you Zoran. The DX4WIN
is just great as it is. It only lacks an integration with WSJT in my
opinion.

I think he his not involed in database operation/programming. If he
want learn a bit then he can contact Michael from Clublog and ask him
how he solve this as a private person with much less money the the
rich ARRL DXCC.

As i told before, many progs doit and i never have read or seen any
comment agaist from ARRL

I've been reading comments like this with interest and I have to ask:
what is so great about instant background LOTW uploads and downloads? I
may be old school but I fail to see the big advantage of giving two
pieces of software (not only on the user's end, but on the ARRL end) a
complete control of overwriting my log without my knowledge, especially
considering the complete failure of the TQSL and LOTW software to
institute station information validity check (incorrect CQ, ITU zones,
grids, IOTAs, etc).

I hope DX4Win never turns into another iTunes garbage interface with
their "libraries", "syncing", inability to tell what file is where and
auto downloads and deletes.

But that's just my opinion.
