Virginia has a number of "cities" that with governments that are separate from the sometimes-surrounding counties. A QSO can be counted -once- for the county, even though the station is in the city. I believe the state is unique in this respect. 73! Ken Kopp - K0PP On Sun, Nov 26, 2017 at 3:50 PM, W9RPMwrote: > Worked him on FT8. Says County is, Virginia Beach City. Re: [Dx4win] cut numbers?
5NN is a cut number for a 599 signal report, for example. A long dash is a number zero. Cut numbers serve as time savers in contests. There are other ways to save milliseconds ... which add up to minutes. You don't win contests with courtesy. I can make another contact while you're saying "73, and good luck in the contest" 73! [Dx4win] Data from callbooks
Use caution. Many listings are incorrect in that they reflect the information taken from FCC license data. Many listings are grossly in error, especially when the licensee hasn't corrected the listing. If one plots a trend line, the delay is growing exponentially. The trend indicates a file uploaded *today* is not likely to be processed *for more than five weeks* based on the current rate of growth in the backlog. Based on the processing time for files uploaded at 0500z on 12/2, there were about 2.25 million unprocessed QSOs in the queue at that time - and that was 48 hours *after* the deadline for submitting CQWW CW logs. With the trend in growth between 11/25 and 12/2, the queue could hold as many *10 million* unprocessed QSOs (although that is unlikely)! I know the folks in Newington are saying trust us, but their performance - and complete failure to provide *current data* - particularly the failure to provide accurate current status on the size of the processing queue - makes trust very difficult. 73, ... [Dx4win] LoTW / W3IZ matter
My thanks to all who responded to my question on dealing with Norm, W3IZ at the LoTW desk. It appears that he's difficult for most and a saint for a couple of you. (:-)) I have 61 years of logs that I've spent hundreds of hours entering into DX4WIN. The project started when LoTW was created and I'd been looking forward to uploading the data into LoTW. I spent several weeks pushing on the LoTW rope and then called Newington for help. Unfortunately, it was Norm who took my call. No doubt the problem is mine, but as many of you mentioned the program -is- difficult. Perhaps the tone of my dealings with Norm was set when, as a matter of introduction I mentioned that I've been a friend of Wayne Mills, N7NG for many years. (Wayne ran the LoTW program for a few of years) His reply was; I'll try to not hold that against you. Unfortunately that appears to have been a serious comment. Norm is definately not suited to be a help desk staffer. I have 308 CW DXCC credits, but there's a few more in my logs that I'd enjoy having credit for, but it's not a big deal.
