Re: [Dx4win] Back-up

2009-11-14 Thread Larry Benko
I second the vote for SyncBack. It is very flexible and has been
totally reliable for me. I started with the free version but the SE
version which costs $30 for use on 5 computers will back up files that
are open or locked which means that if the automatic backup occurs when
you have DX4Win already open the files backup fine.

 Subject: [Dx4win] Back-up

 Hi,

I have just been given a Iomega usb back up drive for my PC.
Can anyone recommend any software that will enable automatic
back-up of my files - especially DX4Win of course? I have
tried iomega's own software and that keeps failing just on
the point of finishing a back-up.

[Dx4win] Sorting order for searches

2009-05-27 Thread Larry Benko
I am running DX4Win 7.05.04 but nothing has changed from previous versions.

As I get more QSO's in the log (600k now) this issue becomes bigger.

DX4Win configuration has the same call window and the log book
window displayed. Then do an F8 search for call sign (AD1C for example)
and DX4Win high lights the 1st contact (oldest) made with the searched
for call sign. The log book is ordered chronologically from oldest at
the top to newest at the bottom while the same call window is ordered
with newest at the top and oldest at the bottom. Both windows show the
oldest QSO highlighted. Since I have worked some call signs thousands
of times and often the oldest one is now a SK and the call has been
reissued it would seem to make more sense for the log to be searched
backwards and the newest (most recent) QSO highlighted in both windows.
Also I generally don't get QSL requests for QSOs from 40 years ago.
Additionally wouldn't it seem to be more logical if both the same call
and the logbook windows were sorted in the same direction?

[Dx4win] Re: [WriteLog] Multi tests in 1 wkend

2006-05-01 Thread Larry Benko
Tim,

Why throw away any contacts. I will be in the MARAC Contest and in the
past I have worked many INQP folks. I need RST and your county and you
would need RST and my state. Why care if I also sent you my county? It
is extra information that is not required but that should in no way
negate the contact. Did I miss understand you statement. I certainly
would hope that all the INQP/NEQP/7QP/ MARAC contests could count
contacts from the other contests. I do realize that sometimes A contact
may be a dupe for one end of a contact and not the other based on which
contests are being worked. The NEQP and 7QP folks are aware of this and
have asked their people to work the MARAC folks even though the contact
is a dupe for them.

For what it is worth, the Indiana QSO Party (INQP) log
checking will handle this situation. Any QSOs in the
log that do not have the proper INQP exchange are
ignored by the software.

The original questioner spoke of only the 7QP and
NEQP, but the INQP and Marac contests will also be on
the air (with various overlapping times) May 6-7.

[Dx4win] Changing Computers

Lee and Wes,

This is not quite enough. You also need to copy your N5PO.key file from
the dx4w503 directory and put it in the new directory with the same name
on the new PC. Also do not forget to do a File, Preferences, File,
Merge INI file (the INI file is in the save directory).

This has probably been covered but I can't find it

I have a new computer and I want to take my present DX4WIN, (V5.03) and
install it and all my logs/info on my new computer..NOT AN UPGRADE...
My old computer crashed and no longer works. I have my complete 5.03
DX4WIN directory, (all subdirectors,files/logs etc) backed up on a CD.
I
hate to lose my log of around 83,000 qso's,

I did this once before, but I forget how..But I don't think it is as
simple
as copying all the saved info from my CD to a new computer.

Thanks

Not true!

There is no .KEY file in Version 5.0x.

Also, the .CFG file is in the SAVE directory, and his configuration will be
maintained without having to export/import the .INI file.

Let's see...

If the process was:

- save .INI
- copy directory to new computer
- merge .INI

then some settings may actually be lost. Like if you have a custom ICOM baud
rate. See my web page about gotchas when merging the .INI file after an
upgrade:

[Dx4win] Backup Of Logbook to Floppy

2003-12-12 Thread Larry Benko
Ditto for the USB drives. If you are running Windows ME, 2000, or XP
just plug the small
(.5x1x2 approx.) device into any USB port and voila you have another
disk drive that you
can copy files to and from. If you are running Windows 98 or 98SE I
think you need a small
device driver for the same functionality. By the way these devices are
generally know as
Thumb drives since they are approximately that size. Biggest problem
may be physically
misplacing the drive since it it so small. I bought a couple Sandisk
256MB drives for about
$60 each.

I don't know how many people use ZIP drives, but a single 250 MB ZIP drive
will handle more QSOs than I could ever create in a lifetime. ZIP even
offers software that will automatically backup any file or files you
specify whenever those files change. Lots of options, Bud.

There is more to it. Adams, CO and Arapahoe, CO do return the correct county

And the World map enhancements are excellent. But I notice on the map, that
doing a Find on a County in the listing actually shows the NEXT county in
the listing, rather than the correct county. For example, when I did a
find on my county, Marion, MO, the map highlighted the following county,
Marion, MS. When I did a Find on the county preceding Marion, MO, which is
Marion, KY, the map highlights Marion, MO.

Find works great for the other tabs and information on the World map, such
as country, prefix, city, IOTA, islands.
