DX4WIN want

I never import WL ADIF into DX4WIN without using a editor.

Subject: [Dx4win] Importing WriteLog file

 Hello Everyone.

I would like to import my contest log for Nov CW Sweepstakes into my
DX4WIN
(6.02) log. Have done it from TR for years. Just changed to WriteLog
10.55.
It dosen't recognize the cabrillo file I submitted as a file it can
directly
import. What is the best method to get this log imported?

 Thanks in advance.

Cabrillo is NOT ADIF.

In Writelog, to to File - Save As and select ADIF.

This is the file you can import into Writelog.

I always take it right from WriteLog ADIF into DX4WIN with no problems.
If you don't want the extra information loaded into the Notes for this
QSO field, then you'll need to edit them out.

i use both programs (dx4win and writelog)
you must export the file like an adif from writelog
In most cases there is no problem to import the adif in dx4win
but in some cases (when you need to import states for example) is better to
convert the writelog adif to dx4win adif with a small program. You can
find the converter in
http://sp7ps.pl/sp7dqr/eng/index_en.html for free.
Note that adif format is supposed that is a standard.

AW: [Dx4win] Mid-confusion stage of SO2R setup

2005-08-05 Thread Sauvageot Christoph
 Stan,

DX4WIN is a log soft - no SO2R possible
Writelog is a contest soft - works great SO2R
(freeware N1MM is also contest soft and also great for SO2R )

I am using DX4WIN ( V6 !! ) or Writelog (with MultiKeyer from Writelog).
Have never touched a DXD - no needs here ( .. if yes - WL can doit also )

Betreff: [Dx4win] Mid-confusion stage of SO2R setup

I am trying to figure out how to do SO2R with both Writelog and DX4WIN.
Therefore I am posting this message on both lists. My goals are to use
the computer for CW and DVK as well as microphone, headset and a CW
paddle on either radio. (I already have the microphone integrated with
a Rigblaster). I have been looking over the documents on the DX-Doubler
and the W5XD keyer and have corresponded with the DXD folks. While it
would be nice to have the computer automate the switch between radios,
it is not a requirement for me as I tend to use the dual VFOs in my MP
as a dual radio sort of thing. I am still not clear what will work if
at all with either of these items. I would appreciate responses from
those who have already gone through this. Right now it might be useful
to express what I think I know on it and open it up for correction and
comment.

1. The DXD docs say it works with Writelog, but the ham who
responded to my questions addressed to the link on their web site uses
CT and does not have personal experience with Writelog.
2. The interfacing of the DXD to Writelog seems dependant on use of
the W5XD keyer which itself is listed as a SO2R box.
3. From what I can tell from the W5XD keyer stuff on their web page
it is a great CW device but doesn't seem to support TX audio.
4. Both boxes are around $200 and it seems you need both.
5. Not clear what works on DX4WIN as the info I found in the DX4WIN
documents I have is somewhat general.

As I said, I am in the mid-confusion stage and would appreciate
corrections to my (mis-) understanding listed herein.

Definitely does - K4JA did it in his SO2R setup.

No, it just takes some jumper settings inside the DXD itself. Paul didn't
use the XD keyer.

I use my DXD with DX4WIN (and N1MM Logger, but that's another story). No
problems within the limited range of what DX4WIN does - sending CW,
mainly. AFSK also works, from MMTTY.

Are there any other reasons why I should consider upgrading?

Yep! In the current declining market for ham products (you might argue this
assumption if you wish) the probability that a small (1 or 2 people)
software company will fold is high.

Independent of any substantive value-added functionality, I find it in MY
best interest to throw $25 their way from time-to-time just to help ensure
they'll be there five years from now to answer my questions and clean up
bugs. Think of guaranteed bug removal downstream as value added now. This
might be pressing a couple of philosophical hot buttons, but real-world
scenarios often require pragmatic responses.

How much are you willing to spend on preventive maintenance of your
hardware? Don't you think your software deserves a little too?

I wonder if it follows, then, that DX4WIN simply doesn't see certain
standard fields; conversely, I wonder if DX4WIN's import filters can accept
more than one input into, for example, the notes for QSO field.

I was really hoping that the developers could provide a table that says:

For ADIF imports, if ADIF FieldName is XXX, then information goes into
field YYY in a DX4WIN QSO record.

Hello Pete!

I am not an expert on this stuff, but it looks like you right about it.

Few days ago while importing my logs into MixW adif.file, I found out
that DX4WIN uses the field NOTE: for both (NAME: and QTH:), while
MixW log software uses own fields NAME: QTH: NOTES: etc.
So when one imports ADIF from DX4WIN we will need to change this NOTE: field
into NAME: field so the ADIF from MixW can read the names and addresses from
DX4WIN adif file, by the way it will read all info into NAME: field but
better than nothing at all.

To be able to change any fields do it as stated here: (PS: Got it from
another user, and it works...)

Use a text editor to do a global replace in the ADIF file from DX4WIN or
any other
ADIF files into the log setup you wish to import to.

I hope it helps you.
---
Hi Carlos,

I do not believe any of these are related to the trial version, they
all sound normal.

For op names and QTHs, you need to look in the ADIF file from DX4WIN
to see what field names it uses for them. MixW uses NAME (e.g.
NAME:6Carlos) and QTH (e.g. QTH:7Drammen), so that is how it
expects the information to be imported. To the best of my knowledge
MixW does not have fields for street addresses. If DX4WIN has
exported the name and QTH fields using different field names, you
can use a text editor to do a global replace in the ADIF file.

In connection with another program, I have done some superficial research
into ADIF.

It seems as if there are two different standards out there: ADIF 1.0, on
the hosenose site, and ADIF 2.1.5, on
http://www.adif.orgwww.adif.org. Some ADIF exports seem
to involve additional fields which are not in either standard.

Looking at the filter editor in DX4WIN, I can't see any way to tell which
fields are expected from a file being imported. Is there some way to view
fieldnames and lengths, and to know where (QSO notes, for example) various
data are imported into DX4WIN?
