[Dx4win] QSL Print Window

2016-06-10 Thread Shelby Summerville
I've just upgraded to v8.05, and one of the problems I've encountered:
In the QSL label printing window, the Print QSL Manager Labels, Print via
Manager, and Print Method Labels, remain checked, each time I reopen DX4WIN,
even after I have unchecked them?

[Dx4win] Country File Error

2011-06-09 Thread Shelby Summerville
When I try opening DX4WIN, v7.02, I get failed reading country file error?
Any suggestions, and please keep in mind that my computer expertise is very,
very limited! Speaking with someone the phone, in order to solve this problem,
would be my first choice? Please reply off the list.
Thanks

The modes, that I'm questioning, were not PACTOR. They were substituted for

OK, I will start this by admitting to being a bit of a numbskull.

Having just had a major submission move on by ARRL, I adjusted my log to
accept the credits, and have spent AN AGE trying to get the 2 sets of data
to match ! I nearly got there; but not quite - 1 mismatch. I am glad I
actually checked the ARRL entered data, since there were mistakes made, that
needed correcting

So, I thought what's all the checking utility stuff anyway? (Bob Pease
expression; if you never saw the articles and his words of wisdom; worth
looking up).

The utility is very easy to use; followed the instruction to the letter;
found my problem in minutes !!!

It did complain at the exception , FJ, by the way, but it didn't affect the
operation.

Thanks a lot, Jim, I guess it wouldn't have been written if it wasn't going
to be useful !!!

[Dx4win] HP 1500

2006-07-01 Thread Shelby Summerville
My trusty HP3820 bit the dust, and I purchased a new HP1500. I've been
unable to find any information in any of the HP help files, regarding
printing direct on QSL cards, using the settings that I was using for the
3820? The salesman assured me that it was capable of printing direct to
cards, and I find postcard settings, in the printer settings, but they
don't seem to be compatible with DX4WIN? Any assistance, off the list,
preferably, would be appreciated.
Thanks.

When I read this something went off in my memory. Now I recall this is
exactly how it worked in ver 7.01 also. In other words, it did not work
as advertised, but as Chaz describes in his bug report. I did the same
work around by putting http://www.qrz.com/ in box boxes also.

Chaz Cone, W4GKF wrote:

 DX4Win-ers:

I thought I'd pass these along so others might not redundantly send
 them in.

These are observed and easily reproduced in 7.02; they were present in
 6.x as well.

 1) Preferences/Ext Data

If you use Website callsign lookup you must put something in both
the Callsign lookup address field AND the QSL manager lookup
address field. If you don't, pressing F3, Enter from the QSO window
 does nothing.

Here's the way this is supposed to work (according to the User Guide) :

If the field with focus in the QSO window is ANYTHING OTHER THAN the
QSL manager field, pressing F3 followed by Enter is supposed to do a
callsign lookup on the website you chose in the Preferences/Ext
 Data/Callsign lookup address box.

If the field with focus in the QSO window IS QSL manager, pressing F3
followed by Enter is supposed to do a QSL manager lookup on the
website you chose in Preferences/Ext Data/QSL manager lookup address.

 It doesn't work that way.

In my case, I used http://www.qrz.com for the Callsign lookup and
http://www.qrz.com/callsign?qsl= in the QSL manager lookup (as
instructed in both the online help and the User Guide).

There are two problems: No matter where the field focus is in the QSO
window, pressing F3 and Enter always goes to the QSL manager lookup
address. Paradox: If you only want to do a Callsign lookup, you can
never do a Manager lookup because you must put http://www.qrz.com/ in
BOTH the Callsign lookup box AND the QSL manager lookup box.

The workaround is to put http://www.qrz.com/ in both the Callsign and
QSL manager lookup boxes. If you do that, at least F3, Enter does the
 callsign lookup.

And, while I'm whining, I asked that the F3 followed by Enter be
changed to just F3. The Enter keypress shouldn't be necessary.

 2. Country Window position (dual monitor setup)

When you ask that DX4WIN remember window position by
Preferences/Screen and using the Leave all windows in original
position checkbox, it does not affect the Country window. No matter
where you move it to, when you exit it comes back to the middle of the
left-hand screen (approximately). Note:this only behaves as described
 on my dual monitor setup.

And, while whining, the wording for the checkbox should be Leave all
windows where they are on exit.

 Just tryin' to help..

[Dx4win] Printing Operator's Name

Possibly, for QSL's to the same station/operator, but how about multiple
QSO's, to multiple stations/operators?

When I need to read 11 pages of differences, when what I have (v4.06) does

[Dx4win] Importing a contest file and not getting state information

2003-09-29 Thread Shelby Summerville
Yep, you have to run Marek's WL2DX4WIN program to convert your WriteLog
file to ADIF for DX4WIN that will import the state info correctly.

Is there something, for use with WF1B, that will do the same thing?

[Dx4win] DXCC Award Submission problem

Not being a computer friendly person, I was not even aware of the DXCC
Submission utility! I have gathered much valuable information from this, and
other reflectors, but if I find one major flaw in most contributors,
especially those that are computer literate...y'all are under the
errenous belief that others have your computer expertise! This flaw,
IMHO, also exists in most software authors? When some of the first wording I
read in a help file is we assume you know...I need not read any further!
If I knew, I wouldn't be reading the help file! Please don't take this
as being critical to your offers to help, but when help is offered, it must
be on the same level of expertise as the one requesting help? I'm sure that
I'm in the minority...please continue to post your assistance for all to
read, and I will continue to read and, hopefully, put it to use.
I purchased DX4WIN to do two (2) things...keep my log and print QSL labels,
and it does that wonderfully! I still use v4.06, and am reluctant to upgrade
simply because of the fear of losing what I have! I have neither the
experience, confidence or desire to experiment or fix what is not broke!
