You're misunderstanding the LoTW bug. It doesn't matter what you
called your files.

The LoTW developers realized that people could have duplicate file
names, so they devised a scheme that renamed user files to a form
"msg-x-x.tq8" where the "x" characters were numbers. The number
was derived from the UNIX process ID, leaving a range of 65,535
different values for the file name. As long as the queue of files
waiting processing didn't get very long, all was well. However, once
things started to take multiple days to process (even more than a
couple of hours, actually) the chance of a collision goes up. There
wasn't anything you could do to avoid the bug, nor anything you could
do to make it worse (other than perhaps submitting a log when there
was a big backlog,)

I've had at least one log lost due to this bug back before it was
discovered. Luckily, I keep track of before/after counts so I'm pretty
sure nothing else was lost.

Re: [Dx4win] LoTW Upload - Filenames

2012-12-10 Thread R.T.Liddy
I used to use a file-naming convention similar to yours, Ed. I'd use
"L" for LOTW and the upload date such as "MMDDYY". For today
it would be L121012.

It's a pretty common way of doing it and I'm sure a lot of folks probably
used a similar system. But, then I read that one of the bugs at the
ARRL LOTW computer was that if a Log Submission came in with the
same name as an earlier one that hadn't been processed yet, the new
one would replace the earlier one in queue. So, if my L120112 came in
before John Doe's L120112 file, mine would be deleted from being entered
into LOTW and I wouldn't know it unless I was closely tracking everything.
I might never know if a lot of Q's were missing.

Now, I use a file-naming convention that would be highly unlikely used by
anyone else. It's possible, but highly unlikely.

The ARRL has fixed this bug and all files are now supposedly loaded into LOTW
whether they have duplicate names or not. But, I have to wonder about ones
I loaded in the past. Did any get deleted due to being duplicated by name
with someone else's newer ones? I still have all my .TQ8 files and I could
just re-upload them to LOTW. But, that would just add to the massive delays
that the LOTW system has been experiencing. So, I won't do it now.

I routinely compare all my credits for DXCC with what I have in DX4WIN to make
sure they match. But, it gets very tedious for other Awards and impossibly
tedious for WPX.

Maybe I'll just do a spot-check to see if any problems show up. Makes you
wonder how long the duplicate filename problem existed before anyone finally
realized it and the LOTW Software Gurus corrected it.

The following works for me in determining the interval LOTW takes to process
my uploads.
I name my uploads based on the date ie LOTW12102012. Then I note the
calender for
that date & then I just wait for a later date to show under "find call" in
LOTW, this gives me
the interval for that upload.

2012-12-10 Thread Ed Hughes
According to the "find call" button on LOTW they processed my latest upload
today 12/10/12 at 12:07pm.
I uploaded on 12/02/12 at 9:43am, so it was in the ballpark of the
advertised 7 days.

Hugh
It only shows up when you have uploaded those files.
No trace afterwards, if b4 28/11/2012 you probably need to upload
Again due the BUG they fixed late evening on 28 November

Well for me, the clublog feature was exactly what I wanted in this case,
but I can see where there might be other variations as well. None of the
examples that I can think of (including the one I started this thread
with) are "must have" things, but rather fall into the category of
"interesting things you can find out".

[Dx4win] LoTW Upload

2012-12-09 Thread Jesse Wall

Hugh,
After you do an upload, go to Find Call and search your call? This option says
it is the callsign's last upload. I haven't tested this myself. I'm waiting
until the backlog clears before I do an upload again.

Re: [Dx4win] LOTW Upload Problem?

2011-10-26 Thread cw...@juno.com
Thank you, Rick. I did that and found that today's upload showed a duplicate
upload for ST0R. If I search for ST0R in the Call Sign Worked field it shows
ZERO QSOs. But if I scroll through the log the QSO is actually found. I will
take this up with the LOTW people.

Thanks to all who made suggestions.

You'll need to look at the LoTW site to see what's happening with your upload.

Log in to LoTW, then click on "Your Account" and "Your Activity".
You'll see a list of uploads - assuming that your ST0R upload was the
most recent, look at what shows from the "Result" link from the
upload. That'll tell you what LoTW did with the log you're trying to
upload.

2010-10-25 Thread Andy P Hewitt
I think I am probably repeating a question already asked. Can someone please
confirm whether or not one can upload a log from the past month including
QSOs with a number of stations in the new PJ entities? I know they won't be
included in the DXCC totals yet but if I upload then now will they be
overlooked when Jan 1st 2011 comes around?

Thanks and sorry for the bandwidth.

[Dx4win] LOTW upload question

2010-04-17 Thread Joe Stepansky
I goofed on a recent LOTW upload but can't seem to get DX4Win 8.03 to
correct it and move on. I did a filtered LOTW Export and unfortunately put
it in my old 8.02 folder rather than the 8.03 folder. I then told DX4Win to
update all flags, thinking I'd done everything correctly.

I didn't. So I went back to the QSOs and set the LOTW flag to Y again, set
the same filter, but nothing exports. How do I get DX4Win to understand I
need to export and upload those QSOs again for LOTW? Do I need to turn off
the upload date as well?

Re: [Dx4win] LoTW Upload Date

2010-04-01 Thread Jim Reisert AD1C
If you're just doing it for LoTW, export ALL the QSOs from the log in
ADIF format, sign that file, then upload the signed file to ARRL.
Dupes won't be a problem.

Just upgrade! Ver 8 has better tools to manage LotW such as clear upload
date and flag. There is no need to do an upload before upgrading.
Besides I can't help with V7... already forget how it worked ;-)

Re: [Dx4win] LoTW Upload Date

2010-04-01 Thread John Holmes
Hi Jim.
Thanks for the tip. We had already tried using the Multiple QSO option to
change the upload date by using blanks and of course it didn't work. We also
tried to change them to 01/01/1901 as you suggested, but no luck there,
either. You know, even if we try to change the upload date on a single QSO
record with the upload date of 03/15/2009, the date will not change. All of
the records after 3/15/2009 change as would be expected. Could the database
be somehow be corrupted? Is there a fix? As a last choice, we have the
records in a .csv file, so we could convert them to .adi, but we'd like to
get the program working correctly.
Thanks and 73,

There's a Multiple QSO Operation to set the upload date. Set it to
all blanks, or try 01/01/1901 if all blanks doesn't work. You may
have to set your preferences to "expert mode" to do this.

Hi All.
A friend has been using 7.02 and is about to convert to 8.03 that he has
purchased. Prior to the upgrade, he would like to upload all QSO's to LoTW.
This should be simple, but there is a problem. Apparently on 3/15/2009 he
generated an LoTW upload file in error that was really not supposed to
happen. Of course, the LoTW Upload date was set. Now, he's ready to make the
"real" upload and the 3/15/2009 date can't be removed, even from a single
QSO that has the 3/15/2009 upload date. Any ideas as to how this date can be
removed?

More details please!

Go to http://dx4win.ad1c.us/

Find the Application Note about LoTW.

Read it all the way through. You must follow each step.

Also make sure you're using 7.04 and/or have the upload flags set.

In 7.02:

QSO -> Multiple QSO Operations -> Set Upload Date

I think you can just leave it blank.

See my DX4WIN application notes:

 http://dx4win.ad1c.us/appnotes/

It's a "quickie" further down the page.

If you have the list of the QSLs you want to reupload, just do it and
the date will be changed to when you did it.

[Dx4win] LoTW Upload Tagging Questions

2005-03-23 Thread Eric Rosenberg
It's 6.04 and somehow I got it to work.

Unfortunately, there's another series of errors I need to correct.

1. Satellite QSOs -- in the BAND field, there's a wild variation:

SAT
435/145
145/435

and there may be other combinations.

Is there an ADIF editor where I can specify which fields to change and
what to change them to?

I have LOTS of satellite QSOs and the notion of manually changing/editing
all of them is horrendous. I started last night, but feel I'll never get
it right (or complete it, for that matter).

Thanks in advance,

[Dx4win] LOTW Upload/Download

2004-09-07 Thread Pete Smith
Very interesting -- According to the LOTW website I have 5172 confirmed
QSOs. According to DX4WIN, when I downloaded my report and imported it
into my log, I set 5171 Upl Cnf flags to "y". Not that it really matters
as long as it's not the P5, but I wonder why the discrepancy?

[Dx4win] LOTW Upload Confirm/Submit/Awarded

2004-06-10 Thread Wendell Wyly - W5FL
NO! It is not even practical. ARRL did not use the same calls in their
list that they had previously awarded for the DXCC awards. I had previously
carefully entered the QSO that was approved by MODE and BAND as they were
approved. When they went to LOTW, they used the most recent one that they
had approved for you. The LOTW data does not include the information to
know from each confirmed contact what award it was actually credited. The
following is an example:

TX0DX
20M
SSB
2327
051106
Y
20040516
512
32
56
OC176
QH90

This QSO was credited for BAND, but not for SSB Mode, but you cannot tell
that from the QSL record. The actual credited information is available on
the site, otherwise the award data could not be calculated on the ARRL
website. Most of us have kept up with this information for many years and
have it correctly stored in DX4WIN at this time.

There are actually two parts to this, though.

1) The adif import for LOTW download (with INCLUDE QSL DETAIL block
checked) could be improved in DX4WIN to allow import since LOTW records
contain IOTA, DXCC Country, state, gridsquare, cq zone, itu zone, qsl date,
and county data same as a paper QSL in addition to the confirmation and some
of this data is only available from a QSL card unless we can get it from the
LOTW record. Again, it would be a disaster if you could not check each and
every piece of data before using it. Believe it or not, many stations DO
NOT know their correct Zone, etc., and the LOTW QSL data is absolutely WRONG
is these cases.

2) IF ARRL makes the WHERE CREDITED data available in the QSL downloads,
then Paul might consider importing this data into DX4WIN, but it would
certainly require a separate program to import this into the log AND ALLOW
YOU to determine that you wanted to accept each and every piece of
information as it would destroy old records that are more accurate (although
now dated) than the LOTW information.

While I suspect this is going to be a nightmare for a short

"Awarded" information into your DX4WIN database?

I completed the "roundtrip" to get my ADI download and
import it using "duplicate QSO sets Upload Confirmed"
which is great, but those are also Awarded and I can't
seem to use filters (10m, Upload Conf = Y) to do a mass
QSO update. So it seems like I need to do a Submission,
which will be a mess since I would need to manually set every
QSL that was previous done (prior to DX4WIN and LOTW, too).

It "feels" like I have years of work ahead of me to get LOTW and
DX4WIN in-sync, since DX4WIN will need me to specify the
specific QSO that was submitted and awarded and that detail
doesn't seem to be readily available electronically.

Ideas?
