Set your Microsoft updates to download ONLY, but don't update until you choose to (it's one of the options). You'll get a reminder icon in the system tray (bottom right) telling you there are new updates. You can then shut down DX4WIN cleanly, perform the update, then re-start DX4WIN after rebooting (if required). I have been updating Windows this way and my computer has NEVER spontaneously rebooted, unless we had an extended power outage where the UPS shut things down. 73 - Jim AD1C -- Jim Reisert AD1C, jjreis...@alum.mit.edu, http://www.ad1c.us __ DX4WIN mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:DX4WIN@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

Re: [Dx4win] Strange Occurrence - Help Needed
Destroyed configuration file. Delete it and restore your settings from the .ini file I hope you created at some point. Regarding skins... don't use them, they are buggy. Regarding Microsoft restarting your computer. If you leave DX4Win running continuously you MUST configure Microsoft Updates to notify only, not do the install automatically. That way you can shut down DX4Win before running the update. It's not a good idea to leave DX4Win running if you don't use a UPS. [Dx4win] Strange occurrence
V8.04 Somehow all my C values in the REPORT/DXCC/LISTING all changed to S. W and M are still OK. I am able to verify status of each entity/band/mode in a separate data program. In the REPORT/DXCC/SUMMARY I no longer have any values in Confirmed column, my Submit column is same total as the Tot. Conf column and only one value in MIX row for CHECKED column. BTW, I do not care about the CHECKED column. If it implies checked and accepted for an award I think A would be more appropriate. The C, W, M values in each COUNTRY WINDOW are OK. I upgraded from V8.04 to V8.05. Problem still exists. However, when working a new band entity the COUNTRY window now shows L instead of W. I do not know if I caused this problem, that is possible, but if I did I do not know what I did. In reading the manual I do not find any help. I probably need to get this problem corrected prior to claiming credits via LOTW. I want to do an LOTW upload at end of March, then claim new DXCC credits. Any suggestions. [Dx4win] Strange occurrence
Problem solved. Received info from Jim, AD1C, and I was able to locate what I did wrong. Last week all my preference settings were wiped out. Reason unknown. In setting up the QSO preferences again I checked the wrong box for QSL label. After resetting this info and about 85 manual updates to most current QSOs all is back to normal. YUP, it was an error on my part. Jim has been so helpful to me and many others and we can not thank him enough. I think Jim deserves a T-Shirt that says DX4WIN HERO on it. Many thanks Jim.
