[Dx4win] Confirmed or Checked

2010-08-29 Thread Mel SM0MPV
Hello,

I have just started to compile cards for IOTA award. This is one award
program where QSL may not be necessary. Island worked during IOTA
contest will account, if logs are sent in and match.

When checking these contacts submitted (S) they may not turn up as S
when examine IOTA worked but as C, M or W. It seems like QSL status
overrules award status. This means that a contact could be C and it
may either be confirmed or checked. I would prefer the award status
overrules the QSL status for those awards accepting contacts made
during contests (IOTA, RDA). It would be good if not the same letter
is used.

[Dx4win] Tracking IOTA and RDA

2010-08-29 Thread Mel SM0MPV
Hi all,

I will try to explain my self a little bit better.

If I have a QSL card and mark the contact as either submitted (S) or
checked (C) in the award box, it turns up in the listing as S or *,
respectively. However, if the contact is just confirmed via the
contest and no cards are available the program just ignores the
settings in the Award box. So a contact that I have made during the
IOTA contest and not have had a QSL-card from will turn up as W or M
if this was the only contact or if neither of the other contacts with
that island have been confirmed with a card. If I have worked another
station from this Island and got a card there will be a C for
confirmed in the listing. It seems like QSL status overrules Award
status.

This makes it difficult to track awards like IOTA and RDA where
contacts made during the contests are accepted.

Hi Mel

I understand your problem with this; but I don't see a proper solution. I
can only speak from the IOTA perspective (Since I have IOTA awards, but not
RDA), there can only be 3 answers to my mind:

1 - RSGB/IOTA share info with ARRL LOTW or eQSL - not very likely
2 - Paul modifies the Log window to allow for at least 2 additional fields
for IOTA/RDA. Could be done, but I would have thought compared to LOTW or
eQSL, this is for a minority case - there are only a few years of IOTA
contests only that are available; which is not very comprehensive. I cannot
speak for RDA, but that may not cover many logs too. In any case; can you
download matches from the IOTA web site for affecting flags; or from the RDA
web site? I suspect not. I would suspect it is not worth the effort from
Paul to modify the code.
3 - Get a real QSL card from the op. I guess you are not so interested in
that, since you are happy with the on line confirmation; and do not in
general need the card for any other award
4 - You should modify your log, by selecting the QSL window as confirmed,
with a note in the log IOTA Web site confirmation

I think 4) is your best course of action?

My personal opinion is that submitted/checked award flags should be
believed whether the QSO is confirmed or not. This would certainly
solve your problem.
