[e-gold-list] Re: Fraud problems

2002-02-20 Thread major bosco

Speaking of favorite GBIC's (since you mentioned it Claude) - I noticed when
I logged-in to my E-Bullion acct today that I can now fund my acct directly
at ANY Bank of America or Wells Fargo branch.

They have the announcement at this page (fyi):

http://www.e-bullion.com/news.php

http://www.e-bullion.com/news_detail.php?id=43

Not a bad idea IMHO - sure makes it easy and convenient.

Regards,

JB

Are there any other points that you would like addressed? Again, feel
free to use E-Count or PayPal, Patrick, I just prefer the GBC's due to the
experiences I have had in the last two + years.

Thanks for sharing your wealth of experience here, Eric.

The reason I've been messing around with E-count and c2it is that I'm still
looking for an efficient two-way conversion path back-and-forth between
dollars and gold. Look at what Cambist has done for e-gold - goldmoney
conversions! There is apparently NO such low-friction path for dollars -
gold.

I'm talking about scenarios like the following.

1. Gee, I really need to fund my gold account really quickly here. I need
to buy supplies from Business Express, coffee from Capulin, and an espresso
machine and a DVD through bananagold. I just got a paycheck through direct
deposit, but it's going to take DAYS to fund my gold account. Oh sure I
could send a bank wire, but that'll run me $20 and cost me a trip to the
bank, and at my hourly rate that trip is going to cost me some serious jack!

2. Gee, I've got plenty of gold in my account, but now I want to go grocery
shopping. I sure wish I could INSTANTLY convert some of that gold to US
funny-money so I could use it at the grocery store!

Any way you look at it, the dollar = gold path is HIGH FRICTION! It
involves expensive bank wires, time-consuming trips to the bank or post
office, and days waiting for funding.

Regarding the repudiability of payments, I THOUGHT ecount and c2it payments
were non-repudiable. Why? Because the customer service flunkies told me
so. When I set up my accounts, I asked whether as a merchant I would have
to worry about payments being reversed on me. They said no. Oh well,
what would I expect THEM to know? :-)

The E-Bullion Debit Card is great! Only $35 plus small transactional fees. I
can move money from E-Gold to my ATM in just a few hours, using Cambist.net,
(or Gaithmans!), and then through e-bullion to the card account.

Craig, do you get spot price when you sell your e-bullion to your
card and is there a fee for the transfer ?

Plus, they (e-bullion) just HAD to express everything in dollars, didn't
they?

As for expressing things in dollars, that suits most people best at the
moment but we can also issue cards in Euros.

No, I wasn't talking about the debit cards, just that e-bullion expresses
the spend fee in US dollars.

Yes, you get spot price, but last I checked, there was a $5 fee for the
transfer. So move $500 at a time to keep the cost at 1%. Move money from
E-gold or GoldMoney through Gaithmans at 1%, and the whole transfer into the
card account can be done for 2%.

There's also a 25cent US (maybe 50cent US) monthly charge for the card.

Interesting. Unfortunately, I do not use e-bullion as my gold
savings. So I will have to wait for the Goldmoney debit card early
this summer.
