Calls for Editors for Journals of the Regional Studies Association

2017-02-02 Thread Daniela Carl
Calls for Editors
The Regional Studies Association<http://www.regionalstudies.org/>- the global
forum for city and regional research, development, and policy - seeks to
appoint Editors for three of its journals:
Regional Studies- Call for Policy Debates Editor
Regional Studies<http://rsa.tandfonline.com/toc/cres20/current> is a leading
international journal covering the development of theories and concepts,
empirical analysis and policy debate in the field of regional studies. The
journal publishes original research spanning the economic, social, political
and environmental dimensions of urban and regional (sub-national) change. The
distinctive purpose of Regional Studies is to connect insights across
intellectual disciplines in a systematic and grounded way to understand how and
why regions and cities evolve. It publishes research that distils how economic
and political processes and outcomes are contingent upon regional and local
circumstances. The journal is a pluralist forum, which showcases diverse
perspectives and analytical techniques.

Spatial Economic Analysis- Call for two Co-Editors
Spatial Economic Analysis<http://rsa.tandfonline.com/toc/rsea20/current> is a
pioneering economics journal dedicated to the development of theory and methods
in spatial economics, published quarterly by two of the world's leading learned
societies in the analysis of spatial economics, the Regional Studies
Association and the British and Irish Section of the Regional Science
Association International.
The journal takes regional economics as its focus, is targeted at international
audiences and is a leading outlet for high-quality research from international
contributors in the field of regional economic analysis.
Two long-standing Co-Editors (who support the Editor in Chief) have come to the
end of their terms, and replacement Co-Editors are sought for five-year
editorial terms.
Co-Editors of Spatial Economic Analysis are expected to:
? Support the peer review process by selecting referees on appropriate
manuscripts (assigned to them by the Editor in Chief) and making
recommendations to the Editor in Chief based on referee reports. The peer
review process is double blind on all submitted manuscripts.
? Use Manuscript Central, Scholar One's web-based online manuscript tracking
system, to assist in the editorial process.
? Comment on and contribute to the editorials, which are written by the Editor
in Chief for publication in each general issue (not for special issues).
? Continue the development of the journal and in particular to encourage
submissions and special issues from leading writers in the field.
Colleagues are especially sought with expertise in spatial economics and/or
urban economics in general, and in advanced empirical research in particular.

Regional Studies, Regional Science - Early Career Mentored Section Editor
Regional Studies, Regional
Science<http://rsa.tandfonline.com/toc/rsrs20/current> is an interdisciplinary
open access journal which is listed in Scopus and ranked as an A journal within
the ABDC (Australian Business Deans Council) Master Journal Index. The journal
welcomes submissions on regional issues in economics, geography, planning,
political science, and related fields. With streamlined peer-review the journal
accommodates research articles, shorter policy briefings and a 'regional
graphics' section, reflecting the growing importance of data visualisation in
our field. Adhering to our longstanding publishing hallmarks of quality,
methodological rigour and clear communication, we offer potential authors the
opportunity to reach as wide an audience as possible through this open access
publishing route.

Regional Studies, Regional Science has an Early Career mentored section
publishing short papers from early career researchers (these are researchers
within 5 years of the date of their PhD certificate or equivalent). The papers
are selected on the basis of high-quality proposals and follow a unique process
of mentored review allowing papers to be quickly developed to the high standard
required of a leading academic journal. The early career section editors
collectively oversee abstract selection and individually mentor authors,
publishing around 15 papers per year.

REGIONAL POLARISATION AND UNEQUAL DEVELOPMENT IN CEE: CHALLENGES FOR INNOVATIVE
PLACE-BASED POLICIES
10th - 13th September 2017, Babeş-Bolyai University, Cluj-Napoca, Romania
Abstract submission deadline: 6th July 2017

Over the last decades new patterns of regional disparities and polarisation
have developed in Central and Eastern European (CEE) countries, drawing the
attention of both researchers and policy-makers. Cohesion Policy responded to
this challenge by focusing on balanced spatial development of the European
regions. However, although achieving significant progress in developing towards
the EU-average, CEE still faces serious internal spatial imbalances between
metropolitan and non-metropolitan areas, between core regions and peripheries.
The increasing social and economic disparities at regional level within CEE
have led to the need to develop new strategies with a strong spatial focus, in
order to deal with and respond to the challenges. This conference seeks to
explore questions such as: how can we deal with polarisation and
peripheralisation? What are the challenges for future space-based policies?
What new approaches should be developed to deal with growing regional
imbalances?

Opportunities and Support for Early Career Researchers

2018-04-03 Thread Daniela Carl

Dear list members,

The Regional Studies Association (RSA) covers issues as diverse as climate
change, migration, smart specialisation and planning, focusing at the
sub-national and regional scales and linking to policy making and practice. We
have several opportunities (specified below) for PhD students and early career
(EC) researchers crossing the interdisciplinary boundaries of economics,
geography, political science, planning and sociology. For more details on the
RSA please go to www.regionalstudies.org<http://www.regionalstudies.org>.

Research Funding
We have an EC research grant of up to £10 000 to support a discrete piece of
regional studies and/or regional science research by EC researchers
(http://www.regionalstudies.org/funding/page/early-career-grant-scheme).

RSA Research Networks, with funding of up to £10,000, are formed by members
interested in examining an issue that responds to the aims of the Association
and is of interest and concern to members as well as non-members. The issue
would not necessarily to have a direct policy focus, but the examination would
normally lead to policy related conclusions.
http://www.regionalstudies.org/funding/page/research-network-grants

Awards
We also have wards for students and EC
(http://www.regionalstudies.org/funding/page/rsa-awards-2018)
* Nathaniel Lichfield Award - the nominee must have graduated with
a master`s degree within the previous year;
* RSA PhD Student Award - the nominee has to be a registered PhD
student who has not yet received their certificate;
* RSA Routledge Early Career Award - the nominee has to be an
early career researcher within five years of the date on their PhD certificate
or equivalent.

Networking and career development
We also hold several conferences every year that have Student and EC career
development sessions, with one conference specifically aimed at PhD students
and EC researchers
(http://www.regionalstudies.org/conferences/conference/student-and-ec-2018).

Mentored publishing route
Our open access journal, Regional Studies, Regional Science, also has a section
specifically devoted to students and EC papers which focuses on publishing
short articles from students and EC to make their research accessible to a
wider audience. This section offers working with a mentor to get your paper
publication ready and all authors selected for this section have the article
processing charge (APC) paid by the RSA
(http://explore.tandfonline.com/cfp/pgas/rsrs-early-career-papers).

Other opportunities
Please do have a look at the further events, benefits and opportunities
available on our website: (http://www.regionalstudies.org/opportunities).

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Kind regards,

Daniela

Dear List members,

This has been the most extraordinary of years when conferences have been
cancelled or postponed and normal flows of researcher engagement and networking
have been heavily disrupted. So, what is the plan for 2021, a year in which we
all hope that vaccines will roll out globally and we will slowly see a welcome
return to more social interaction?

A small number of societies and research led organisations have come together
and agreed that rather than run competing events we will contribute to
co-hosting a Festival of regional and related research. This multi-partner
event will run globally, online from 2nd June - 16th June 2021. Partners' calls
will be announced beginning of 2021. Details on the Regional Studies
Association's (RSA) call for abstracts and special sessions are listed below.

The RSA will provide its newly developed events and networking app (RSA Hub)
which incorporates a conference wire frame for virtual events to host a
multi-strand event within an app enabling participant networking, Q, multiple
presentation types and exhibition spaces as well as rooms for social and
well-being occasions. Partner organisations will have spaces to showcase their
activities and we hope to include a job fair.

Presenters, chairs, discussants, rapporteurs and other active participants will
be required to pay a small fee (£45 or £20 for concessions) to cover costs. The
Festival will be free for non-presenters who can take part in discussions and
networking.

Regions in Recovery Building Sustainable Futures - Global e-Festival
RSA Call for Abstracts and Special Sessions

Special session deadline: 27th January 2021
Abstract submission deadline: 17th March 2021

Recent months have seen the exceptional become the ordinary. From social
distancing to widespread travel restrictions, new quarantine rules to lockdowns
and remote working, the significant shock of Covid-19 and its implications are
becoming clearer for all to see. And yet, as attention switches to recovery,
calls to pivot away from business-as-usual approaches are clashing with
structural forces opposed to significant change. Add in the global climate and
migration crises, rise in populism, racial tensions and the #blacklivesmatter
movement, geopolitical manoeuvrings by the United States, Russia, China, EU,
and the question on most people's lips is: what happens next?

Against this backdrop, regional studies are more vital than ever to inform
public debate and invoke appropriate policy responses. Indeed, regional studies
has tools tailored to understanding the spatial impacts of significant shocks,
be they economic, political, social or environmental. For this reason, regional
research is once more spearheading major efforts to provide the type of
reliable, robust knowledge necessary to support cities and regions in their
recovery. 2020 has taught us that the greater the change the greater the
disruption, but also the greater the disruption the
