[QRP-L] Re: [FQP] FQP 40m CW window expanded
Hank Greeb wrote: Please be advised that the internationally recognized QRP calling and operating frequency centers on 7030 KHz, ± a few KHz, and many QRPers will be out during the QRP To the Field on Saturday (QRPTTF), times coinciding with the Florida QSO party. Many of the QRP rigs are crystal controlled, so will need to operate within the suggested FQP mobile frequency window. Being stuck at home this year, I intend to participate in both contests on Saturday. For the QRPTTF crowd, their exchange of RST/SPC includes exactly what is needed for the FQP crowd. In reverse, I'm hoping the TTFers will realize that BRO and other three letter county exchanges will be logged as FL by them. If they ask you for STATE, just send a quick FL so that they may also use the contact. The 40M QRP calling freq is in a transition period with many not even being aware that it has changed from 7040 to 7030. I believe that most of the crystal controlled rigs are still on 7040. On 20M and 15M (I'm going to assume there will not be much activity on 10M): QRPTTF guys and gals will hang around .060 while FQPers will be around .035 (.040-.050 for mobiles). On Saturday, I'll split my time between the two freqs. No need for conflict, we can all help each other with QSOs. -- 73, Bob Patten, N4BPPlantation, FL E-Mail : [EMAIL PROTECTED]Website: http://www.qsl.net/n4bp SOC #1 ARS #799QRP ARCI #3412 FISTS #7871 NAQCC #1306 FP #1491SMIRK #6625 __ QRP-L mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/qrp-l Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]
[Elecraft] KIO2 and serial keying
I use N1MM contest logging program. At present, I communicate between the PC and the K2 with its KIO2 using a serial cable, and I key the K2 using a parallel cable with Tom's (N0SS) keyer built into the parallel cable housing. With parallel ports absent from many laptops, and in the interest of fewer cables... My question(s): The KIO2 uses pin 2 and pin 3 for RXD and TXD communication with the radio, and pin 5 for the ground connection. 1) Can I use pin 7, on the KIO2 labeled RF but appears that nothing is connected to it, to drive transistor keying of the radio instead of the parallel port? 2) Will N1MM recognize the same com port for keying that it is using to talk to the radio? 73, Fred - kt5x K2 # 0700 ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. I've done what you're talking about with CT but not N1MM. I just checked the configuration menu in N1MM and found that you can only use pin 4 for CW, but you can use either pin 4 or 7 for PTT. From the config menu it appears that you can use the same serial port for communication with the radio and keying/PTT. [Elecraft] 1966 Year Of QST Volumes
Guy's... Recently saw a post from someone on one of the lists selling a bound volume of I think QST's... Just wondering, as we are all a bit nostalgic with one thing or another, I was born in ZL on May 1st 1966 and would like to try and find out where one would actually find the complete Year of 1966 QST magazines as a collection together.. Is there a CD\DVD available somewhere that would give this... or is it just merley down to folks having the volumes complete from that era...?? What about price of these things..how does that go ... Re: [Elecraft] KIO2 and serial keying - correction
I wrote previously: I've done what you're talking about with CT but not N1MM. I haven't used CT with serial port keying for 6 years so the memory is a little hazy. Turns out you can't have the rig control and keying on the same serial port with CT. You can run them on separate serial ports, which is what I did back then. Once I got two K2s I used parallel port keying. You should still be OK with N1MM. Make sure you are connecting your keying interface to pin 4 and 5 at the computer end of the serial cable and only pins 2, 3 and 5 are connected at the KIO2 end of the cable. 73 Gary, N7IR K2 1078, 2154, 3463 ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Re: [Elecraft] KIO2 and serial keying
Think several times before doing this. Pin 7 on the IO connector, labelled RF, is indeed connected to the main MCU. Imposing RS-232 voltages on it will probably cause very bad things to happen in your K2, as others have discovered. If you want to break out pin 7 of the cable from the computer before it reaches the KIO2 connector, you can do that - it can provide the PTT (or CW) signal you need. You will also need the signal ground off pin 5 of that same connector (from the computer). In any case, ALL pins of the KIO2 IO connector are used, and imposing RS-232 voltages on any except the two communications pins (TxD and RxD) WILL cause failures in your K2. Thus you want to be very careful about what you let near your K2... -Original Message- From: cloud runner [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Apr 26, 2007 9:20 AM To: elecraft@mailman.qth.net Subject: [Elecraft] KIO2 and serial keying I use N1MM contest logging program. Try this link, Andy: http://www.arrl.org/catalog/?category=Technical%2C+Electronics%2C+and+Commun ications+Reference#9841 It should show you that you need set 6443 for 1960-64 and #6451 for '65 through '69. They're $39.95/set. Each set contains multiple CD's and each issue is included in full, from the front cover to the back. Some years ago I bought the set from 1915 through the 1950's, since I got my ticket in the 50's. Fun reading them. I was astonished to note that I remembered some of the articles and cover art from the '50's very well, in spite of not having seen them since then! The early issues are a fascinating history of the development of Ham radio. Since the early issues are smaller and in black and white, more years are covered in a set. The search engine included with the viewing software is excellent too. No, I'm sure you don't need to be a member to buy them. [Elecraft] K2 lost tuning on 10 meters
I was checking the bands this evening and noticed that the tunng knob had no effect on 10 meters. All other bands change frequency just fine when the knob is turned, but on 10 meters the frequency display stays right at 28000, with no change when the knob is turned. Any ideas of what may cause this? I'm not sure at this time I'm missing much on 10 meters, but it does seem odd that only that band doesn't change. All help appreciated. It works VERY well on every radio I've ever hooked it up to, including my K2's, TS850, and OmniV. With the K2, of course, I feed it through the two isolation diodes so that I can also use the paddle. The transistor inverter/level shifter is the one that Writelog shows for the parallel port. Collector to the key, emitter to key return, base thru resistor to the keying line from the computer. All this works MUCH better if you rebuild the serial cable using twisted pairs for the computer to radio part, one pair for each signal circuit. No changes to the wiring between a KPA100 and a K2.
