[Elecraft] OT: FS Tektronix 2246 100 Mhz, 4 Channel Oscilloscopes

2007-08-03 Thread Howard W. Ashcraft
There are occasional posts on the reflector asking about oscilloscopes and
their availability. I just finished refurbishing 6 Tektronix 2246 Mod A
oscilloscopes. The 2246 Mod A is a great combination of power and convenience
at a reasonable price. The cursors and auto trigger and auto measurement
functions are very nice. There are internal self-calibration routines for time
and voltage measurement, plus these scopes also have an exceptionally bright
and sharp trace. They are my favorite 100 Mhz scope.

3 of the refurbished scopes have been already been taken by members of our
local club, but I may have three left so I'm posting it here before going to
eBay in case someone would like them. These scopes have been cleaned, minor
repairs made, and then checked and/or adjusted to meet or exceed Tek standards
using Tek calibration tools (PG506/TG501/SG503). While the scopes were apart,
I also repainted the cases with lacquer that was formulated to exactly match
the standard Tek blue. I have loaded photographs at www.ashcraftfamily.net.
Click on HWA Stuff and then you will see three sub-directories identified by
model and serial number. There is a text file in each directory that explains
the significance of the photographs and the prices. Prices vary because one is
nearly perfect cosmetically, one is very good, but has one rear plastic
standoff broken, and the third has two plastic standoff's broken. (Check the
photos)

[Elecraft] Looking for a used K2

2007-08-03 Thread Derek Brown
Within a month I will be in the market for a used K2 with the
following options: SSB, 160M, 20W internal ATU and a K6XX Visual Zero
Beat Indicator (I will probably need to add this option myself). I
would prefer a unit with a serial number above 3000 but will consider an
older unit which is suitably priced to allow for upgrades. If you have
or know of such a unit, please reply directly to me with description of
options and desired price.

Hi Don,

I have found three resistors with a wrong value (R7, R9 and R4). I installed
the resistors with the correct values but the problem is always present.
The current increase step by step until it does catch up the value 4A and
the radio gone on Hi current protection when I push PTT on the microphone.

It is possible that the Q1 transistor is the cause of this problem?

Thanks for your help

Have you removed C167 from the RF Board?
If you have removed it, there may be a problem with the ALC circuits on
the KSB2 - check D1, D2 - look at the schematic and identify the
components associated with Q1 and be certain all have the correct valus
and are well soldered.

on SSB, I push the PTT, speak into microphone and I have : power output
OK, the s-meter follows the voice but the current increase and arrived
at Hi Cur limit (also without speak into the microphone). Push the PTT
is sufficient for have a current absorbed but the wattmeter don´t show
 any power out.
I hope that these additional information are sufficient to comprise the
 cause of this problem.

 Fabio,

I cannot be specific, but the most probable area causing that trouble
 is

the area of Q2 and Q3 (those direct the BFO signal either to the
balanced modulator in SSB mode or back to the RF board for CW) or the
 balanced modulator U5.

Check carefully to be certain diodes D5, D4 and D3 are inserted in the
proper direction and in the correct holes.

 Hi,

I just finished installing the KSB2 module on my K2 QRP version (full
optional). I go to operate for the first time but when I push the PTT
I get this problem: the current absorbed increases (the voltage
decrease) until it exceeds the value 4 A (set at this value after some
test) and the K2 switch off. The current and the voltage values
reading on the K2 display and on the multimeter are the same. I have
this problem on all band but only in SSB mode (K2 works correctly on
CW mode with full power 10-13W). The problem is repeated every time
 when I push the PTT.

I use the microphone Heil MH-2.
 Any suggestions?

 Good weekend

[Elecraft]K2 Scan not staying on freq long enough

2007-08-03 Thread Arthur Gunn
Today I tried scanning for the first time with surprising results.

Instead of staying on a signal for about 25 seconds, my K2 stays on a
signal for a random 3 to 18 seconds (usually less than 5 seconds). These
CW stations heard by scanning are often very strong and over 15 wpm with
no breaks in transmission expected. The random nature of the pause time
with good signals is also a surprise.

I setup the scanning with DSP on and off with no difference in results.
The scan rate was also varied with no differences observed.

Does the procedure you have followed give the 25 second result described
in the manual? Any ideas of why the K2 #6155 with 2.04P firmware might
act this way?

Re: [Elecraft] K2 Keying current?

2007-08-03 Thread Chris Kantarjiev
Thanks for all the responses. I got this working pretty quickly yesterday.
It took two iterations ... first time, I made the cable a bit too
short in my effort to keep my desk neat - and had some of the connections
off-by-one on the DB25 :-) The computer would key the radio but never
unkey.

I figured that out and added a foot of cable and N1MM logger is happy...

P.S. http://pages.cthome.net/n1mm/html/English/Interfacing.htm has schematics,
among other places. And Tom N0SS's board looks very nice, but I
wanted it today. I also wanted to put the isolation diodes in a
(planned) box that will take computer, paddle and straight key...

AFX is the Audio Effects function. It is not finalized yet, but
envisioned to control stereo AF output, binaural audio, panning, mixing,

As I learn about the K3, I am amazed at the thought that went into the
applications and ergonomics. You and the entire design/test team sure
