Cliff and Group What is it about the Elecraft line that once you own one piece of their gear it seems that it becomes for lack of a better word a Disease. One that spreads to more and more of the Elecraft name on your desk like the Chicken Pox there are so thick 8). There is some good news here though it is subsiding some as I have at least one piece of all their gear from K2 forward, until several more options come out for the KX3 expected soon. The bad news on the other hand is that Eric seems to have a constant stream of new products in devolvement or to introduce, ones that people want and cause a backlog to get one of whatever. 73, Fred/N0AZZ -Original Message- From: elecraft-boun...@mailman.qth.net [mailto:elecraft-boun...@mailman.qth.net] On Behalf Of Clifford Hynds Sent: Saturday, January 12, 2013 11:00 PM To: elecraft@mailman.qth.net Subject: [Elecraft] K2 Repairs on hold while i fix my K3 12V ERR - now Fixed Well, Yet another fault in my shack the K3 decided to stop putting out power over 12W this last night and came up with the Error 12V ERR so off to the internet to see if it was an easy fix, well yes and no. Hi Fred and group, Well yes I suppose it could be called a disease Hi! I actually started not long ago when an unbuilt K2 with SSB kit was up for sale and i felt I wanted to build something for a change, It is complete but have some kind of transmit problem where the power drops off 15W at 80M and progressively drops off to 10M. Strange ! Receiver side seems fine. Have Gone over the adjustments to no avail suspect the Transmit Mixer output may be low. Anyway later on I bought the following also second hand K3,P3 and KPA500 came up second hand on our VK classified site. I've owned a lot of tranceivers over the years but the Elecraft gear id different somehow, no small p[art to the support and enthusiasm of the owners and company. Also like the idea of standard type connectors not proprietory . Good old DB9's etc. 73 Cliff On Sun, Jan 13, 2013 at 8:39 PM, Fred Smith m...@mo-net.com wrote: Cliff and Group What is it about the Elecraft line that once you own one piece of their gear it seems that it becomes for lack of a better word a Disease. [Elecraft] K3/KX3 and RemoteRig
Hi Group, I’m wanting to try remoting my K3 via RemoteRig and wanted to see what successful configurations others are using. I just built the KX3 last weekend and wondering if anyone has used this as their controlling radio via RemoteRig? I’m very familiar to the capabilities of the RemoteRig using a ts-2000 but not sure with Elecraft products. Also, if I buy the K3/0, would it be possible to update to a 10 or 100 watt radio in the future? Guessing so... And last, does the RemoteRig interface allow for remote power on/off via the power button on the controlling radio? 73, Chad N0YK K3/10 – 7127 KX3 – 3151 __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

Re: [Elecraft] K2 Repairs on hold while i fix my K3 12V ERR - now Fixed
It is a bit of an addiction. I started Ham radio with an IC-7000. Next was a KX1, then a K2, then a KX3. I still have the IC-7000 but really only to use on the blue water boat, where the Icom is easy to interface to a Pactor modem and where I would prefer not to put the Elecraft rigs at risk! I would love to have a K3, but hard to make the case for it with all the aforementioned E rigs in the armory right now! Re: [Elecraft] KAT500 problem
Following up on my High SWR problems (no response from Elecraft Support on Friday to my email): I disconnected the KAT500 and KPA500 and connected A4S feed-line directly to the K3. It loaded beautifully and the internal tuner read 1.0-1. Good, not the feed line or the K3… Next I connected the KPA 500 (without the KAT500) and turned the K3 on….the display froze a few characters into the welcome K4TM message and the power button would not turn the K3 off - I had to turn the Astron 35M off to cut power to the K3. When I turned the K3 on again, I get a blank screen and must shut the power supply off to turn the K3. I've had a Kenwood 520SE and a 570D and a TenTec Omni Vii - Drake TR-4 before all that and I know the K3 is smarter than I am but I have never encountered issues like this before! Any ideas? Re: [Elecraft] Paddle for the KX3 - has anyone tried the Begali Adventure?

The only strange KX3 event that happened is at one point I was tuning and when I would stop, the vfo would continue to tune up (regardless of my tuning up or down just prior). I turned the KX3 off/on and it did it again after a bit of tuning in one direction, so I got my video camera on it, turned it off/on again and of course with the camera's eye watching, it didn't do it again. Very strange behavior though... Like it went into scan mode, but it was very slow and I didn't turn on any scan function. [Elecraft] For Sale - handled/rackmount brackets/panels for K2
Greetings, A long time ago, someone manufactured and offered a pair of unfinished aluminum side brackets/panels for the K2 for those of us who wanted to replace them with something with handles much like rack mount equipment would have. I purchased these but do not know who made/sold them. If anyone would have a need for these, I offer them up in the US for $18.00 shipped in a padded mailer. The two side panels are drilled for the mounting holes similar to the K2 side panels and includes a set of screws. 73 - john - n0hj __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
Re: [Elecraft] For Sale - handled/rackmount brackets/panels for K2
If those are the ones like I have, they were made by David Saylor (WK4DS) of Saylor's Machine Design, Trenton, GA. Not sure if he makes them anymore. I have them for both my K2 and K3. They are made from 1/4 inch thick aluminum and add some additional stiffness and weight to the units. The rack handle feature was also on the end at the rear of the rig. They also provide protection from bumping the knobs and connectors when moving the rigs around on the shack bench or packaging for trips. 73, Henry - K4TMC -Original Message- From: John Evans - N0HJ jaev...@pcisys.net To: Elecraft Elecraft@mailman.qth.net Sent: Sun, Jan 13, 2013 2:14 pm Subject: [Elecraft] For Sale - handled/rackmount brackets/panels for K2 Greetings, A long time ago, someone manufactured and offered a pair of unfinished aluminum side brackets/panels for the K2 for those of us who wanted to replace them with something with handles much like rack mount equipment would have. [Elecraft] K3 wont power on!
Hi all Have been using new K3 (7049) for a few days and whilst turned on today it just powered off, was not doing anything sat the time but sat in RX. When I try to switch on I heard a relay click very softly but nothing, checked psu (have other items connected to it that work) and checked power cable with a meter, all ok there, fuse is fine in it. Now when I try to turn on, nothing at all, not even the light click sound. I have searched and not found anything on the groups so am hoping someone might be able to point me in the right direction or some suggestions on what to test? Have had K3 at 100W and lower power too. Re: [Elecraft] KAT500 problem
In your original post you say that you turned on the KPA100 in the K3. You should have the KPA100 turned off when using the KAT500. The KAT100 is not needed when using the KAT500. Make sure that when you are tuning with the KAT500 the TUNE POWER is set to 25W. Below 20W will not give an accurate tune-up. Instructions for adjusting the TUNE POWER are in the K3 manual. Also, you should tune the KAT500 by using the TUNE button on the K3. Instructions for using the TUNE button are also in the K3 manual. My recommendation is that you check all of your KAT500 and KPA500 connections carefully by referring to the manuals for each one and then read the tuning procedure for the KAT500 in the manual, following each step carefully. Good luck! 73, Tom Amateur Radio Operator N5GE ARRL Lifetime Member QCWA Lifetime Member On Sun, 13 Jan 2013 11:37:53 -0500, Hunsdon Cary III h3c...@gmail.com wrote: Following up on my High SWR problems (no response from Elecraft Support on Friday to my email): I disconnected the KAT500 and KPA500 and connected A4S feed-line directly to the K3. Also note that per the manual, this procedure should be run *before* you Calibrate the S-Meter, so if you do run the RF Gain calibration, you may wish to go through the S-Meter calibration steps (detailed in the K3 User Manual) again as well. 73, Dale WA8SRA On 1/13/2013 6:06 PM, kis...@me.com wrote: I just noticed that when I adjust the RF gain control just passed the 3 o'clock position the apparent volume jumps considerably. FastStone Capture might be an interesting possibility for you as well. It's not free ($20 for a lifetime license) but it will also record whatever happens on your screen to a video file if you want ... it doesn't only take snapshots. http://www.faststone.org/FSCaptureDetail.htm I have no association with them other than I used a freeware predecessor for years with good results. 73, Dave AB7E On 1/13/2013 9:20 PM, Rick Commo wrote: Oops, I meant to say Best of all it's free. -Original Message- From: elecraft-boun...@mailman.qth.net [mailto:elecraft-boun...@mailman.qth.net] On Behalf Of Rick Commo Sent: Sunday, January 13, 2013 3:09 PM To: 'elecraft' Subject: Re: [Elecraft] How do I print a spectrogram file? [Elecraft] OT; HRD's Audio Monitor feature.
FYI, I haven't seen anything about this on the reflector, nor did I find it doing a search, so here is a 'heads up'. While I was in the HRD logbook, I noticed a 'audio monitor' tab at the bottom of the screen. I clicked it and it opens a window that displays the audio pattern in both transmit and receive. It has a peak hold feature, also. It may be useful for making equalization settings. I was in a ssb qso at the time. I will try it using digital modes next.
