[Elecraft] Vedr: RIGblaster Advantage for Serious Digital Modes with KX3?

2013-09-18 Thread Martin Storli - LA8OKA
I use the MicroHam USB Interface III With my KX3.
http://www.microham.com/contents/en-us/d158_U3.html
I had to build the interface cable my self, a pretty easy job all hams should
be able to do.
Drawing of the cable here:

If that link does not work, go in here and click on the drawing:

Emne: [Elecraft] RIGblaster Advantage for Serious Digital Modes with KX3?

I'm looking at different approaches for a compact interface unit to use with my
KX3 and MicroSoft Surface Pro Tablet PC.
The KX3 has some neat built in features for light field use, but I need to be
set-up for serious DXpedition use with the digital (and other) modes.
Anyone have any experience in this area that could help me pull such a system
(or similar approach) together?

[Elecraft] K3 with P3 on the air

2013-09-18 Thread W0WFH Bill
Greeting all,  My K3/100 I picked up from KP4Y
Is just about all complete, I added the KDVR3 and KATU3
plus the FM filter.  I also have the XV144 transverter off
my K2 on the K3 and it works super!

An as of today I now have the P3 installed (waiting on the
SVGA board).

It all working the K3 is S/n 6061 and the P3 is 2817.

Now I will be looking for a KPA 500 amplifier and my K Line
will be complete.

From what I seen so far this is going to be a great station.
Been using an FT 920 for 15 years worked a lot of 6 meter DX
but now with this set up should be able to finish off DXCC
only need 5 more countries confirmed.

Thanks, everyone for the fine support!
I believe that you have helped a lot of people (besides just me) find paths for
getting the digital modes up and running well.
I'm going to use the information and ideas you have provided to get my
KX3/digital mode system optimized and ready for the St. Lucia trip in December.
Thanks again -- ya'll are awesome!

For a different approach, this maybe something to consider...
http://www.4sqrp.com/4s-link.php
There was a note in the reflector about a modification need for the KX3. Quoted
and copied below.
Either a special cable or reworking pcb traces would be necessary.
Good luck,
Rich K8MEG

Just
discovered why I couldn't get the 4SLink to work with the KX3. The
Mic/PTT jack on the 4SLink is backwards from the way the KX3 works. On
the 4SLink, the microphone audio is on the ring and it needs to be on
the tip of the connector going to the KX3.

I
was trying to use a standard audio extension cable between the 4SLink
and the KX3 which put PTT on the Microphone Audio in and the audio on
the PTT (ring) of the KX3.

It looks like something you can do for yourself, Tom.

Click on the: Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft at
the bottom of any displayed post.

And right at the bottom there is: To unsubscribe from Elecraft, get a
password reminder, or change your subscription options enter your
subscription email address:

If you leave the field blank, you will be prompted for your email address.

If you take the digest, you can remind yourself of the email address you
registered with by looking at the header or failing that, dig out the
monthly password reminder that mailman sends to you.

You will be presented with the option to unsubscribe and you WILL need your
password, hence the monthly reminder can be really handy.

It looks like unless you give your password and registered email address to
someone else, only you can unsubscribe.

Re: [Elecraft] 222Mhz Build Question

2013-09-18 Thread Don Wilhelm

Kevin,

I do not recall much difference between the 2005 manual and the 2010
manual for the XV series.

If there is an errata sheet for the 2005 manual, make certain you read it.

You could go through the two manuals page by page to see the differences.
I know changes were made to the XV144 assembly, but I do not recall any
for the XV222.

[Elecraft] [K3] One Last Hearing Story

2013-09-18 Thread Edward R Cole
Very interesting story! I recall Rick's R2 (I think it was called)
which was an analog precursor to the SDR of today.

I think the lesson is well put. To improve your abilities you have
to train! That has to be done at or beyond the limits.
So to hear better train yourself with weak signals. To improve
your CW push your speed. To qualify as a Marine Recon or NAVY Seal,
well good luck! You know they train beyond the limits. I have
been lucky to work alongside both who were retired vets!

My hearing is very poor, not from rock music but industrial
noise. In the 1950-60's no one bothered with hearing
protection. But I do know my ability can be improved with training
at levels I want to succeed at.

Thanks for the story.

Please reply off-list with condition, installed options and asking

We would like to replace the outdated gear presently used at WW2DEM with
a quality modern Made in the USA rig.  Of course Elecraft immediately

Re: [Elecraft] [K3] One Last Hearing Story

2013-09-18 Thread Bill Frantz

Well maybe second to last. :-) (But I doubt it.)

The most important thing I can do with my fading hearing (I'm 69
and fading hearing goes with the age) is to eliminate background
noise. I'm sitting in my shack and I can hear the jackhammer
outside, cars on the street, my wife walking in the living room,
the freezer humming away, and the backup drive on my desk
seeking as Time Machine does a backup. One of the greatest
blessings is when we have a power failure and most of that
background noise stops.

I use headphones which helps reduce the audio QRM. The CM-500
headphones help a lot, but what really works wonders are my
Sennheiser noise-canceling headphones. Turn them on and the
noise just disappears. I have used them while working ARES/RACES
for the Los Gatos Christmas Parade. They help there too,
although a lot of the parade noise still comes thru.

Cheers - Bill, AE6JV

[Elecraft] Elecraft K2/10 for sale

2013-09-18 Thread Carey Magee
Hi:
I am selling my fully loaded K2/10 (SN: 5613). Here are the details:
K2/10 Transceiver (SN:5613) with the following Elecraft options installed:

KSB2 (SSB Option)
K160RX (160M Option)
K60XV (60M and Transverter Interface Option)
KNB2 (Noise Blanker)
KDSP2 (Advanced Internal DSP Filter / Clock)
KAT2 (20W Internal ATU)
KIO2 (RS-232 Serial Interface)
KBT2 (Internal Battery Kit)
FDIMP (Finger Dimple for K2)

Also installed are:

Z1 internal buffered IF amp from Clifton Labs with SMA connector for IF
out.
ReWork Eliminator Mic header (IMA)
N0SS fixed Audio Output with RCA connector
K6XX Zero Beat Indicator
73CNC Black Anodized Main Tuning Knob (will include the original knob with
finger dimple)

Included with the sale is:
- Home Brew 14.2V battery charger for KBT2
- All manuals and cables.

Side tone pitch is set to 600Hz. This K2 has just about everything one
would need in a radio of this type. The KBT2 battery option still holds a
charge just fine. Equipment is in great condition and works great. I am the
second non-smoking owner. I sent the rig to Don Wilhelm in 2011 for a once
over and will include all test results and paperwork.

I own a K3/P3 now, so sadly, it just sits on the desk not being used
anymore.

Please reply off list if you are interested. Many thanks for the bandwidth.

Re: [Elecraft] W2 PROBLEM

2013-09-18 Thread Bill Frantz
Have you checked the ALC setting? You should have 4 bars of ALC
showing when you transmit with the 5th bar flashing. You can use
TX test mode to set the ALC without going out on the air.

If you don't have the ALC set correctly, the K3 will start
transmitting at less than the power it is set at and slowly
increase power as the power measurement feedback corrects the
output power.

Re: [Elecraft] W2 PROBLEM

2013-09-18 Thread Ron D'Eau Claire
It's also quite possible that your wattmeter is trying to display average
power output, in which case it takes a while to display the correct output.

Check the manual for that wattmeter and see what it says. Usually you have
the choice between peak (which you should be using) and average.

Have you checked the ALC setting? You should have 4 bars of ALC showing when
you transmit with the 5th bar flashing. You can use TX test mode to set the
ALC without going out on the air.

If you don't have the ALC set correctly, the K3 will start transmitting at
less than the power it is set at and slowly increase power as the power
measurement feedback corrects the output power.

Re: [Elecraft] W2 PROBLEM

2013-09-18 Thread Michael Eberle
Holding the SENSOR and RANGE buttons simultaneously changes between
peak-hold and average. You might also want to set the range to 200
since 'auto' may take a couple seconds to determine the correct range
and 2KW would be too high for just 40 or 80 watts.
