[Elecraft] K2 alternative tuning knob
Well, I found on eBay listing a tuning knob from a Yaesu FT-450D so, sight unseen, I bid and won it. I was hoping it would be the same size and style of the Yaesu FT100d (which I own). For $15 I received the FT-450D tuning knob and I like it!! It fits perfectly on my K2 tuning shaft. IMHO, I think it looks better than the original boring K2 knob. However, the Yaesu FT-450 knob is a bit smaller in size than the K2 original but about the same weight as the K2 knob. It also has a "real" finger dimple molded into the knob which works great! So...the FT-450D knob isn't as large as the knob on my FT-100D...h, I thinking of switching the tuning knobs between the FT-100 and the FT-450. That might just work. I can email a photo of the FT-450 upon request. 73 Ed __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

Good Evening, Due to the demise of my boot drive, which died peacefully in its sleep, I no longer have any email addresses or a mail system. Until I rebuild everything I am using a webmail account. Re: [Elecraft] ANTENNA TUNER on KX3-PROBLEM
Review all the KXAT3 installation instructions and make certain that everything is plugged in correctly. The N/A display indicates that there is no communication between the KX3 processor and the processor in the KXAT3. Re: [Elecraft] K3 & RemoteRig
Jim and Iain, IMHO the cure for perfect control of the keying speed is to use a Winkeyer for your paddle connection and then connect the Winkeyer to pins 4 & 8 of the I/O RJ-45 jack on the rear of the RRC Control unit. Make the proper I/O and Keyer settings in the RRC Control setup and you're there. As I understand the manner of transferring keying from your RRC Control to the RRC Remote such that the vagaries of your Internet connection does NOT affect the keying of the Remote K3, the direct control and transfer of data has to be changed. The result is absolutely perfect keying on the Remote K3 so long as your Internet connection is NOT losing packets. It truly is a superb application. Having to give up the internal keyer capabilities of the K3, and the resultant display, is a very minor negative vs the truly remote operation that the Remote Rigs provide. This is, as said above, IMHO. Just a satisfied, new, short time user, and YMMV. Re: [Elecraft] KX3 CW Memory Use
One method I can think of is to create a macro that transmits a CW memory. The macro can then be assigned to the PF1 or PF2 keys. That way, you can transmit the CW memory by holding PF1 or PF2. Not tested, but in theory it should work. The downside of course, is that you only have two buttons available, so only two memories accessible that way. And having to hold rather than tap a key naturally introduces a delay. If you have the KX3 attached to a computer running Linux, you could use xbindkeys to bind any keyboard or mouse key to any command, including a command to make the KX3 transmit any message. I've used that method to transform my otherwise unused "back" mouse buttom into a PTT key: # ~/.xbindkeysrc "echo 'RX;' >> /dev/rig" m:0x0 + b:8 + Release "stty -F /dev/rig 38400; echo 'TX;' >> /dev/rig" m:0x0 + b:8 -- Jesper Henriksen On Thu, Nov 21, 2013 at 11:21:45AM -0800, John Watkins wrote: > Does anyone have a work around for me. [Elecraft] K3 Birdie
Hey Guys, I'm playing in the CQWW contest and just found something alarming. I was around 28.043 and thought someone was tuning. When I transmitted I noticed the signal go away and then when finished it slowly came back. Kind of a slow start that took about 1/2 second to rise up to full volume. It also started out at a lower frequency and slowly rose up…kind of like a "chirp". I then realized it was some sort of birdie. Disconnecting the antenna made no difference. It's a big one. It's S 9. Re: [Elecraft] Bad timing
Redirecting this back to the list. Can you observe the output of the power supply when you turn on the K3? You need to be able to test it under load to see if it's shutting down. I realize that you weren't drawing much of a load at QRP but I'd want to be 100% sure about my power supply since I'd consider that a weaker (and cheaper) link in the chain. Good luck, hope you get back on the air quickly. 73, Dennis NJ6G On 11/23/2013 7:04 AM, PHILIP GRAITCER wrote: Just put a voltmeter on it. [Elecraft] Bad timing
Right in the middle of a nice run (at QRP levels) in the CQ-WW contest last night, my K3 #7120 - less than a year old - quit. Just stopped, as if the PS had been turned off. I checked the PS, power cord, and the power pole connectors and tried again. Removed all cables to the K3 and tried again. Nothing, except a slight click in the speaker, like there was power turning on. But no lights and no action in the K3 or P3 either. The K3 had shut down like this about 10 minutes earlier but started right up again, so I figured the first time I had mistakenly hit a bad switch, or the ghost of Buddy Holly (who hangs out in my shack) was playing with the controls. Can this list-brain trust suggest troubleshooting steps I could take while I wait until Monday to call Elecraft? I've removed the covers, top and bottom, in the back part of the K3 to look for obvious damage. There was none, nor was there smoke or any other sound when the K3 shut down. Fuse does not appear blown. Looks like I am out of the contest. At least my family will be happy to have me around.maybe. Re: [Elecraft] K3 & RemoteRig
Jim, Some software allows you to use the K3's internal keyer. For example, TRX-Manager has a checkbox "CW internal". So this is software related. Alternatively, you can use a local external keyer instead of the one built into the RRC. Go to pages 88, 89 and 228 of the RemoteRig manual for details. 73, Mitch DJ0QN On 22.11.2013 19:08, Jim - KE8G wrote: Hello All, I have a question for those of you who might be operating remotely. Currently, I have 2 K3s; one remote & the other at the control site. I am a 100% CW guy and was wondering if someone has found a way to set the CW WPM other than using the CW knob on the RemoteRig unit? Is there something within the RemoteRig software, that I just can't find? I really like the ability of the visual on the K3 when changing the WPM speeds, that I miss not having it available to me. Any ideas? 73 de Jim - KE8G __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html -- Mitch Wolfson DJØQN / K7DX Neubiberger Str. 21, 85640 Putzbrunn Skype: mitchwo - Home:+49 89 32152700 - Mobile:+49 172 8374436 Echolink: 3001 - IRLP: 5378 __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
Re: [Elecraft] K3/Logger 32 Interface issue
Hi to all, In addition to the replies sent via the reflector, Sam, K5OAI sent me some interesting info on USB power save settings. I had adjusted some USB power settings, but some of those in the links he sent were new to me. The bad news is that they didn't actually make any difference, but I learned a little more about Win 7 so worthwhile just for that. I have though made a little progress. All the RS232 cables are shielded. It's something to do with having the SteppIR controller in the mix. If I disconnect the RS232 Y cable, from the controller, the problem goes away. I put the whole lot back on the old PC and it still works fine, so I'm pretty sure it's something about the new PC that's causing the problems. If I don't change bands, Logger will quite happily report accurate frequency and mode as I tune around. If I change bands a few times, and specifically, if I change bands using the band switch on the K3, Logger32 will stop reporting frequency. Using the RS232 monitor utility in Logger, I can see the If; polling message going to the K3/SteppIR controller, but nothing being received. Anyhow, on the basis that my PC has plenty of spare slots, I've ordered a Serial card. I'd quite like to get the USB combination working though, so I will try the various alternative Prolific drivers, as several folks have kindly suggested, and then maybe try an FTDI adaptor and see whether that works. Thanks for all the help and advice. Very much appreciated. 73 Denis MW0CBC / GW8OQV -Original Message- From: Mike Reublin [mailto:n...@nf4l.com] Sent: 22 November 2013 20:54 To: Denis Jackson Cc: Elecraft Reflector Subject: Re: [Elecraft] K3/Logger 32 Interface issue Ditch the Prolific adapter and get one with the FTDI chip. And of course the proper driver. 73, Mike NF4L On Nov 22, 2013, at 2:31 PM, Denis Jackson wrote: > Just installed a new shack PC, with I7 processor, Haswel chipset,, and > WIN 7 > 64 Bit OS. > > > > Using an older KUSB, with the Prolific chip set.
