Ed: It might be done with Command macros. See Edit Command Tester / KX3 Macros and Macro assignment procedure in KX3 Utility Help. You might also want to refer to the K3 and KX3 Programmer's reference, on our Manual download site. The command you need is TE. You can store up to 8 macros in your KX3, and assign any two of those macros at a time for invocation by PF1 or PF2. 73 de Dick, K6KR -Original Message- From: elecraft-boun...@mailman.qth.net [mailto:elecraft-boun...@mailman.qth.net] On Behalf Of Ed Stallman Sent: Monday, November 25, 2013 10:53 AM To: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net Subject: [Elecraft] SSB 2 audio profiles ? Re: [Elecraft] KX3 and solar panels
On 11/25/2013 11:42 AM, Gene Ruff wrote: I am looking for information on using folding solar panels with my KX3 . success stories or sad ones. Thanks G. R. The best response to this is to simply read up on how solar panels are used to charge batteries. There's plenty of good stuff on the internet about it. The key thing is to get current into the battery without overcharging it. There are boxes that do this -- they are called charge controllers and they vary in cost from a little to a lot. The most efficient ones regulate the charging current by generating square waves and modifying their width. The problem with that approach is that unless the designer is VERY careful, the square waves generate lots of RF trash. Another approach is to simply use your brain and a simple volt-ammeter, monitor charging current and voltage, and disconnect the charger when the battery is fully charged. I use a real cute little inline volt-ammeter called Watts Up. About $50 with power pole connectors. One simple charge regulator that does not make square waves is the 7A Sun Force unit. About $15. It's designed to work with 12V batteries and panels that put out up to about 20V open circuit. It simply senses battery voltage, and functions as a simple on/off switch to allow charging if the battery voltage is below 14.2 volts, and cuts off above that. Someone turned me on to a really nice and more efficient MPPT charger made by Genasun. Kansas Wind and Power is selling one for $125. I bought one, and it's RF quiet. Hookup is quite simple. Solar panel feeds the battery, either through a controller or directly, and the battery feeds the radio. Our FD group runs QRP battery, using a 50W solar panel and a big battery for each radio. We don't use charge regulators, because we're not charging the batteries hard enough or long enough. 73, Jim K9YC __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
Re: [Elecraft] K2 cntrl brd res reading
John, That is just fine. I know a range was specified, but you are only 6% out of that range and normally a 10% variation is acceptable. In the case of those particular signals, they are connected only to the P3 connector at this time, so your ohmmeter is reading only the resistance displayed by U6 itself, and the actual reading is dependent on which particular ohmmeter is being used. 73, Don W3FPR On 11/25/2013 2:28 PM, wt5y wrote: K2 control board all resistance readings ok cept I get 95 k for U6 pins 29 30 which call for 70-90k. Re: [Elecraft] EA3BLQ or K2DI Interface boards
First, no, I don't have the boards. I wanted them, though. I considered building the interface without having them. I considered a lot of options, and in the end I just bought a SignaLink USB (you need a decent soundcard anyway), built and installed W3FPR's little LM386 audio amp on perf board in about an hour and called it good. And it's been very good. I spend most of my operating time on JT65 and JT9 these days and this setup has been flawless. Sometimes it's fun to build these things. Sometimes you just want it done and working. BTW, Sparkfun has a nice little 10K trimpot with a knob for $1 which works perfect with Don's board. https://www.sparkfun.com/products/9806 Eric KE6US On 11/25/2013 7:07 PM, Doug Shields wrote: Hello everyone, Does anyone know of any available EA3BLQ or K2DI interface boards for the K2? Re: [Elecraft] EA3BLQ or K2DI Interface boards
Doug, Pauli has been SK for several years, so boards are not available unless someone has them squirreled away for some later use that may never happen. In place of Pauli's boards, I suggest that you take a look at my W3FPR Fixed Audio Output article on my website www.w3fpr.com - boards and kits are no longer available, but the circuit is simple enough to construct on perfboard. It only addresses the audio out for digital modes, but also look at the Digital Modes switchbox article. Between the two of those, you can accomplish all that Pauli's interface provided. 73, Don W3FPR On 11/25/2013 10:07 PM, Doug Shields wrote: Hello everyone, Does anyone know of any available EA3BLQ or K2DI interface boards for the K2?
