Re: [Elecraft] Wood bits
Forstner bits are available to 1/8th inch, but are expensive. The reason not to use them is that the cutting edge would dull in no time due to the copper clad board. A real waste of a good bit. Jerry, wa2dkg Not sure if this is what you are looking for, but, I've tried using wood drills (the ones with the point which only cut on the outside edge, good for thin sheet metal, too) to make copper lands on a plain board. I think they are also known as torpedo drills. I've seen kits made up of lots of little squares or circles of pcb material that you stick onto your main copper clad board. That's a little more messy, but works. I prefer the drill method, it also starts a hole for your component wire.<< David G3UNA<< ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. [Elecraft] Hate the word "ham"
I certainly agree with Jozef. There is something called tradition. We are "hams," and should be proud of that title. It took much effort in days past, unlike today. When I recieved my Extra class license it meant something other than the fact of successfully memorizing some answers. We now have Extra class "operators." The FCC changed "ham radio" in order to get more numbers. Never mind quality, let's have numbers. Never mind the traditions. By the way I do remember my Elmer from 1956. [Elecraft] KX1 straight key
I've finally had time to return to my KX1 today and was loading the various parameters into memory. I want to use a straight key. I loaded (HND) hand key, but the only thing that happened when I close the key was to key the unit which remained keyed until I pulled the key plug out of the rig. I recalled a msg sometime ago from someone who gave instructions on how to use a straight key. I thought I saved it, but can't find it. Could someone pse send the directions. I recall it was a simple direction. Oh yes I now have a new problem. Since I keyed the rig I can no longer bring up the menu!! What happened?? I disconnected the power for a few minutes but no change. I am able to change mode/RIT etc. BUT no menu. I sometimes believe I am loosing my mind! [Elecraft] KX1 VFO noise
I haven't used my KX1 since I completed assembly a few weeks ago. At that time all seemed well. In preparation for a trip I got the unit out to test it. I found that as the VFO was tuned a "popping or clicking" noise is heard each time the display moves. I seem to recall seeing this mentioned by the group but I can't find a reference. Any ideas? External battery voltage is approximately 12.4 volts. Internal batteries also mimic the noise.
