[Elecraft] K4 - P3 Direct Coupled Sensor

I currently use my 'Direct Coupled Pan Adapter TX Sensor' to monitor operations 
as the final connection just before theantenna, just as I assume other do. Does 
anyone know of there will be a provision for K4 to monitor the same

[Elecraft] K3 Power Rise in WSJT-X Modes

power output on the K3starts out lower than what is initially set then rises to 
the set power level over the first five to eight seconds of transmitting.The 
power change is not indicated on radios meter, only my external meter(s).I have 
checked to see if the same thing occurs in other modes (RTTY, CW, SSB, etc) and 
it does not. I don't believe it is a K3 issue but I wanted to check and see if

In response to your question, the K3 Assembly Manual has the KDVR3 Digital 
Voice Recorder  going in the chassis before the KRX3  Subreceiver.  in fact 
there is whole separate manual for the subreceiver.

[Elecraft] Using P3TXMon with KPA1500

Dear Zac,

I am not sure how it might work on your KX3, but the  K3 will hold the " VFO B 
decode" window open on both RX and TX. The setting I discovered to get there is 
press "TEXT DEC" button, then use VFO B to select "CW 5-40" (or whatever speed) 
then press "TEXT DEC" again. It locks VFO B screen in decode mode during both 
transmit and receive. As far as "scrolling back" I do not thik that is possible.

[Elecraft] P3 Display "flashing"

Over the course of the last several weeks my P3 Display has developed an 
annoying white "flashing or blinking" in the lower half of the display. To be 
more accurate, it is in the lower portion of the receive signal display. That 
is if I have "labels" enabled, it does not flash/blink in that portion of the 
display. It also only flashes/blinks on the P3 screen, not the monitor that 
also displays the receive signal via the P3VGA module. It slows considerable 
after about 30 minutes or so but never completely stops which suggests a 
thermal issue. Also note I have the P3TXMON accessory in place. I have checked 
all the connections and reset the firmware.Any feedback would be

only shut off my sound card but changed one of the com ports on my Navigator. 
Goes to show that you can't assume anything will be the same after an

[Elecraft] K3 DATA A Mode not working

I recently downloaded a JT65 program and after several days of flawless 
operation, my K3 stopped transmitting in DATA A mode. The K3 keys but nothing 
is transmitted and no power out. I changed over to BPSK31 via HRD  using DATA A 
with the same results. All the other modes (RTTY FSK, CW, SSB) work fine with 
no issues. Only DATA A seems impacted. I reloaded the Firmware from the website 
and went through the Configuration tables and that all that appears correct.I 
must have missed something  someplace so any help would be appreciated.Thanks,

Thanks Tom for your feedback. I did conduct the test and down to 2 watts the 
KAT500 still searched for a tune.As I indicated when connected direct the  K3 
ATU finds a reasonable match at the any power level from 2 to 100 
watts.Regardless, it still points to the antenna as the problem.  Will check it

[Elecraft] K3 Incorrect Frequency Change

My K3 recently developed a bit of a glitch. While using HRD Logbooks DX 
Cluster, when clicking on a station,  the K3 will change frequency to that 
station, however it will always be 0.75 off. For example if the posted 
frequency is 7.017.00 the VFO A will show 7.016.25.  A second double click on 
the same station post and the correct frequency will come up. In addition, if I 
have VFO A locked together, VFO will show the incorrect frequency but VFO B 
will be correct. Also, if I leave a particular frequency and return to later, 
via a click on the cluster, the return frequency will be correct. I attribute 
this to the K3 memory.I have reloaded the K3 software as well as HRD. I checked 
all RIT/XIT  and I have no offsets set as far as I can tell. Any thought would 
be appreciated. Please reply off line to save bandwidth on this site.Bill -

[Elecraft] RE; K3 Incorrect Frequency Change - FIXED

As follow up to my earlier post, my issue of the VFO A frequency not tracking 
properly was due to my CONFIG: CW WGHT setting being wrong. I somehow set the 
VFO offset from 'VFO NOR' to 'VFO OFS' which results in the frequency offset 
equal to the CW tone/pitch selected.
A big thank you to Mike K6MKF for his help and pointing me in the right 
direction.

[Elecraft] KAT500 - Utility not working - FINAL REPORT

Some may recall I had a issue with my KAT500 not connecting to the computer 
therefore not allowing me to use the KAT Utility. After checking com ports and 
ever purchasing a new KXUSB cable from Elecraft, I sent the unit off to the 
mother ship for a look-see.  Turns out we lost transistors Q1 and Q2. They were 
replaced and all is well once again.
I do not know how or why they were "blown" but we happy all is once again 
working. Thanks to the Elecraft Team and Service Tech Cory for the quick turn 
around.

[Elecraft] K3 VFO - Linking

I am having an issue with linking VFO A and B. Page 6 of the K3  owners manual 
(Revision D10) suggests that holding the 'SUB'  will link  the VFO's , and 
holding it more than 2 seconds "engages diversity mode."  I never seem to get 
the linked VFO's.  Holding the 'SUB' button any length of time engages 
diversity mode. I have the new synthesizers in my K3 and I have reloaded the 
firmware as well. Additionally, if  I say 'YES' to link the  VFO's in the 
CONFIG menu, as soon as I hit the "SUB' button the VFO's unlink.Anyone have any

As an up date, I ordered a new KXUSB cable but the computer still does not 
recognize the KAT500. The original 'COM PORT' that was used prior to all this 
issue is gone and I am unable to find it. I have managed to work through all 
the steps from uninstalling and reinstalling the program and utility as well 
and rebooting the computer with the cable both in and out, etc. For whatever 
reason the computer simply does not recognize the KAT500. The KAT500 keeps 
defaulting to the port occupied by the KPA500 utility. In doing so the COM PORT 
will not recognize the KAT500.   Looking for additional suggestions. Thanks in

[Elecraft] KAT500 - Utility not working

I discover a problem with my KAT500 in that the Utility shows that no Software 
is loaded. It still received signals from the computer as I can control it from 
HRD but I cannot make changes via the Utility. The cable Interface Cable shows 
only "flashing red" light. To this point I have confirmed the computer com 
ports are functioning properly. The cables are all attached. I have changed the 
cable input point to confirm it is not the computer port that is the problem. I 
even tried to reload  my previously saved configuration to no avail. The 
Utility screen continues to say that no software is loaded. And yes I reloaded 
the Utility program on the computer. Any help or insight would be appreciated 
as I have never had a problem to this point. Thank you in advance.Bill - W0BBI

[Elecraft] K3- Background crackling using KDVR3

Wanted to check with the group to see if anyone else has had a similar 
situation where they hear a crackling nose in the the background when 
recording a voice message using the KDVR3. I only recently started to use the 
module for voice recording and noticed the noise immediately. 
Key points to note;
- it presents itself only when in voice modes. CW records clearly, that is no 
background noise.
- I can disconnect everything from the radio (except power source of course) 
and the noise it will be on the recording.
- In testing I even disconnected the microphone from the K3 and pressed record  
in SSB mode and the crackle noise could be heard.
- Computers and everything else I can think of were turned off as well.
- If the MIC gain is off there is no crackle on the recording. However, as 
soon as the MIC gain is turned up, even a little, the crackle is in the 
background and yes the CMP is off.
I have chatted with the the Elecraft Techs but they seem to have run out of 
ideas at the moment. I checked the Archive as well but saw nothing there. I

[Elecraft] Elecraft - Proposed New Years Resolution

I would like to propose a New Years resolution to all my fellow Elecraft 
reflector users, that being that we all to try limit posted topics to Elecraft 
product related issues. While I  know we all appreciate the diversity of 
perspectives we have here and even the need at times to vent on certain 
matters; I think we should all try and stay focused on the reason the good 
folks a Elecraft set up this forum which I believe was to support the Elecraft 
product user community.  Just to clear, I am not proposing the elimination of 
all off topic comments. However, if you feel the need to engage members of 
this community in such discussion then I would propose you consider including 
your email address in your post and request folks respond to you directly.With 
that said, if you feel the need to reply to my proposal, my email address is

[Elecraft] K3 Configuration problem

I have run into a Configuration problem with my K3. I usually have settings 
under the 'CW WGHT' (Owner's manual pg. 55) set to run 'SSB+CW' (Tap 1), 'NEW 
QSK' (Tap 3) and 'AUTO OFF' for VOX (Tap 4).  For some reason the K3 reverted 
back to the opposite settings and no matter how many times I try to reset, it 
reverts back. I have reloaded all the firmware to no avail.Anyone have any 
ideas what I might be missing?Thanks.Bill - W0BBI

   Problem solved. Apparently  a switch in a subprogram external to the K3 
caused the problem. Thanks to all  Bill - W0BBI

[Elecraft] K3 picking up noise from monitor

This maybe a bit off topic but I recently discover, by accident, that my K3 
been picking up noise from my computer monitor which can be seen on the P3-VGA 
as a 1-2 S unit uptick in background noise on 40 - 80 meters. Turn the monitor 
off and it drops. The monitor is a Samsung unit and is the only one of the 
three I have that cause the inference. Has anyone else experienced this 
problem? I have tried all the 'usual' fixes, chokes, re-locating coax  cords, 
etc, and nothing seems to help. Even if the monitor is not connected in anyway 
to the radio, ie; used with a different computer in the shack, it still causes 
interference. On thing to note is that this monitor uses a laptop type power 
supply while my other two monitors run off regular 120v. Not sure if that makes 
an difference as I use a laptop  and it works with causing no such interference 
problems. I would appreciate any additional ideas to try and solve the problem.

[Elecraft] Setting up reflector topics

How do you set up topics you want to receive messages on? 
When I go to try and set upWhich topic categories would you like to subscribe 
to?  I see nothing that lets me select the topics. 
Please advise.
