Re: [Elecraft] KPA500 REMOTE POWER CONTROL
Bob, That is a great plugnplay line of boxes you make!. Commendations to you for your inventiveness and marketing. However, I am not a 'plugnplay' ham and needed to figure out how I could wire something up myself. We talked early on in 2017 when I was first putting together my remote rig system and you had all the solutions for connecting up any combination of assorted shack necessities. But I I am not running a K3, I'm running a Kenwood TS-480 and feeding a KPA500/ KAT500. So I used a microbit webswitch to perform the shorting of pins 8+12 on the KPA to turn it on and off http://www.remoterig.com/wp/?page_id=166 The microbit 1216 is a great little box with five relays. I use the other four relays for a fan in the 'radio box' power to the KAT500 and a pair of coax relays. webswitch has not missed a beat in three years. [Elecraft] KPA500 REMOTE POWER CONTROL
HI Gordon-- I run a KPA 500 remotely and have the same problem some times. But there's a big green bar at the bottom of the utility that sez "power on". That should be your first indication. But its hard to know what's going on at the remote site. I use a 'remote rig' setup to run the radio and the COM1 port to talk to the KPA 500 and for power on and off I use a set of contacts from a microbit webswitch to toggle a short across pin 12 on the ACC plug on the back of the KPA --and that's the same as pushing the power button. The webswitch is very reliable and I use if for other stuff like switching a fan in the transceiver box, KAT500 power and a couple of coax relays. Here's a webpage with some of the info: http://www.valhallatreefarm.com/WB7ELY/kpa500/kpa500.htm //dave WB7ELY OERTOEWE __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
[Elecraft] KAT500 Remote Control
I have a KAT500 ATU that I want to remote control over the home network and over the internet when I'm at the winter QTH. I can run the 500 connected to my local laptop with the Eleraft-supplied usb cable. Now I'd like to run it remotely. Bought a Lantronix serial server https://www.lantronix.com/products/uds2100/ and it looks like it will work. I have it running connected to the network and the KAT500 but the Elecraft utility wants to find a COM port! So how do I get it to look on the internet for the serial server? Maybe it's a question for lantronix but since the elecraft remote utility is looking for a com port instead of an iP address in the internet, I am at a stopping point. Any help would be appreciated. de dave WB7ELY __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
[Elecraft] KPA500 Remote Utility Fails
After a failed windows update, I had to reload some of my software. Among that was the KPA500 remote utility. I did what I did before, went to the elecraft support page, found the KPA500 download, did the download, it said to also download the dot net framework. I did that and then I downloaded the FTDI comport drivers, located the proper comport and launched the utility. I get a big error box that says " Unhandled Exception has occurred in your appliacation" "Unable to load specified amp driver" I uninstalled the utility and the dotnet framework and reloaded only to have the same thing happen. So I went and did the same thing on my #2 shack PC and same results. What am I doing wrong here? //Dave WB7ELY __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
[Elecraft] Disparity between KPA500 remote utility downloads
Attaching a couple of screenshots of two different KPA500 remote operating screens, a plain one and a great one. I want to download the great one into my l#2 win7 PC and cannot seem to get the one I want. Are there two KPA500 remote utilities? This is what I get upon downloading the KPA500 utility today..., a stripped down gray and white panel showing the essentials of the amplifier parameters: http://www.valhallatreefarm.com/WB7ELY/kpa500/kpa500A.jpg A month ago I downloaded (what I thought was the same utility) and I got this nice color, animated, easy to use remote screen. http://www.valhallatreefarm.com/WB7ELY/kpa500/kpa500.htm These were downloaded from the Electraft K line utility and firmware download page. Could someone shed some light on this? [Elecraft] KAT-500 remote control using serial port
I have the KAT-500 Utility working fine through the serial cable and USB. Now to get it running over the internet on the RRC 1258. Using the RRC COM 2 Port, the set up wants to know the serial protocol, The stop bits, the data bits and the parity. I see someone asked that back in 2014 but can't seem to find the answer. Cannot find this info in the KAT500 manual. de Dave WB7ELY __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
[Elecraft] KAP 500 Remote ON/OFF Via AUX Conn
I'm wanting to utilize the AUX connector pins on my KPA 500 to remotely turn on and off the amplifier. The interface diagram on pg 25 of the manual shows pins 8 and 12 can be momentarily shorted to control the power. (#8 grounded) My plan is to do this via a 1216 webswitch. But when I touch 8 and 12 together, nothing happens. I've checked and verified all plugs tight and pins are correct. Possibly I need to pull 8 low with -12volts? I know a lot of you leave your amp in STBY all the time but I'd like the flexibility to turn it off and on remotely with extra contacts on the webswitch. [Elecraft] KPA500 and KTA AUX Cable/Remote
Just assembled the two units and am very pleased with the Elecraft products. My question is since I do not have the KPA and KTA connected to a K3 (it's a K'Wood TS-480), do I really need the aux cable between the KPA and KTA? Looks like it contains some band info but not sure if the $40 cable is really necessary. But I am also running the setup by remote control (RRC-1258) and I am having to leave the KPA on STBY all the time so I can communicate via the RS232 interface. I see that pin 8 of the AUX connector is a power on pin if you pull it low momentarily. I have a webswitch and have a pair of contacts where I could do this. Has anyone done this? Does it really power off the KPA and power it back on?
