[Elecraft] Q: Recording outgoing messages on the K3 DVR
I'd like to use the My K3's DVR instead of N1MM+ for the upcoming NAQP SSB contest. I have a question: Do I have to record my messages live directly into the radio, or can I record them on my computer and play them back into the radio via its mic or line input? The only references I've seen describes live recording of messages directly into the radio. [Elecraft] Help needed: DX Patrol SDR and K3
I've been lent a DX Patrol MK4 SDR that I'd like to hook up to my K3. I followed the directions for the installing the DLL... no problem there. I can't get HSDR to work. The documentation, such that it is (in print from the manufacturer and a German YouTube video) is for an older model, talks about using the box as a direct receiver, not as a panadapter hooked up fed by the IF of another radio. I'd like to use it with N1MM's spectrum display and Win4K3Suite, too. [Elecraft] Audio output routing confusion
After 6 months off the air, I find myself confused by the K3's audio output choices. While I'm able to hear the Main A VFO and Sub RX VFO through my one speaker, I can't figure out how to (or if) hear both the Main RX A and B VFOs through that speaker. Re: [Elecraft] K3 output power failure.
W3LPL and other mentioned the PA temp and sagging power supply. I didn't think to check the PA temp until later (how much later, I don't know), If I remember correctly, it was 35C. In both cases, I was operating in a contest (ARRL 160 and ARRL RTTY RU) with the RF power set to 100w Sitting in front of the rig now (been powered for 15 or so minutes), the PA is 26C.What did catch my eye was the voltage and current at the rig: 13.3v & 1.2a in RX I then keyed the radio, brought the power to 100w, it's a the voltage went to 11.8v/17.9a and then shut down. The voltage went up to 13.3v/1.2a but still no output. PA temp is 31C I swapped power the Astron power supply for an Alinco DM-330MV switching supply (1 ft power cable to the radio). I set the power supply so the radio reads 14.5v. I also turned up the fan up to level 4 (it hadn't gone on previously).. The radio read 14.5v/1.3A on RX. PA temp 22C, FP temp 30C in RX Still no TX output, although the radio went to 14.2v and 2.3a when I first keyed the radio. It quickly ramps up to ~4.a and stays there until I unkey it. Any ideas as to what's going on? 73, Eric W3DQ On Mon, Jan 6, 2020 at 9:29 AM Bob McGraw K4TAX wrote: > What was the PA temperature? [Elecraft] K3 output power failure.
In the middle of the ARRL 160 contest, my K3 stopped putting out any RF. No explanation that I can think of... all of a sudden, ZERO watts out when the radio was keyed, either by software (N1MM+ or WSJT-X) or pressing the TUNE button. The TX LED was lit, the meter showed audio, which I could hear via the radio MON. I could not get it to come back. I shut it off for a couple of minutes and then it came back. Everything seemed fine until this weekend's ARRL RTTY Roundup. After being on the air for about 4 hours, once again there no was RF output (the meter said "0 watts with two dashed lines above it), The radio keyed (the TX LED went on and the meter showed audio which could be heard via the radio MON), and the meter said "0 watts with two dashed lines above it. I disconnected everything but the antenna, and still... no change. I did a system reset. Again, no change. I quit for he evening and came back in the morning, On a lark, I hooked it all back up, and lo and behold, everything worked as if nothing had gone wrong. I'm stumped. Re: [Elecraft] K-POD labels
Brother P-Touch labels fit between the K-POD function buttons. The best is TZ-211, 6 mm (1/4"). The next larger size, TZ-221, 9mm, (3/8") is just a hair too tight for me. Both are black print over a white background (which covers the F Key label on the K-POD. There are lots of choices of both background and type colors. Magnets did not work for me for two reasons. [Elecraft] Trouble configuring a K3, MicroHAM Microkeyer 2 and N1MM+
I've been having issues getting my MK2 work with a new-to-me K3 and N1MM+ At the moment, CW works as expected, EXCEPT when I use the footswitch. When use it, the PTT1 light stays lit and the radio goes into transmit and won't get out of it -- you have to turn off the rig. The PTT! light stays on after the rig's shut off. You have to turn the MK2 on and off for the PTT1 LED to turn off. When in the phone (SSB) mode, I can key the radio and hear wav files (audio) out of the rig's speaker, but no audio is transmitted. Likewise, I don't hear anything from the microphone. The same scenario re-occurs with the footswitch as when in CW. I originally had an issue of the radio keying and staying keyed when I plugged in the MK2’s PTT cable to the rig. That went away, but I'm not quite sure why or how. And yes, I have RTFM and N1MM+ setup notes many times. I clearly could have missed something. Just what that may be, I do not know! I'm interest in macros or ?? (alternative key assignments) to enable simple tasks I've been accustomed to with other radios. The ones that immediately come to mind are - jump up or down X Khz (2 buttons) - increase/decrease (or reset to the default) step of the tuning encoder - switch directly to a specific band instead of having to scroll through them to get where you want to go (6 buttons). There appear to be two versions of the Grifin Pod. Does it matter wjhch one I get? I also have an Orion II with pod and find it most helpful! Even in contests where WinTest and the Micro Keyer II do most of the work it would be most useful to be able to access the K3 memories for some extra messages but as I have learned it can cause problems to just stab your finger at the radio in the heat of a contest. A pod has more limited possibilities for getting into trouble and can be conveniently placed on the operating desk. Well this is an old talking point for me and I suppose Elecraft is so busy that it will remain on a back burner. I suspect you can also use any other band data decoder. I'm happy to pass along the wiring diagram and instructions. 73, Eric W3DQ Washington, DC --- Date: Mon, 13 Dec 2010 16:47:40 -0500 From: Phil LaMarche plama...@verizon.net Subject: [Elecraft] Used Amp To: elecraft@mailman.qth.net While waiting for the arrival of the new Elecraft amp, I sold some older amps and bought a used Ten Tec Hercules II solid state amp. It runs 550 watts and looks just like new. I had forgotten how nice this little amp was, having owned one 14 years ago. This will make my waiting easier and see the results of running 500 watts. I'm also about to order a P3. [Elecraft] K3 LEDs light up, but won't come to life
thi has happened three times: I turn on the K3, the LEDs on the four knobs under the display light up, but the display stays dark and I cannot power it off with the power button. I have to disconnect the power, wait a little bit and re-connect the radio. It comes back to life when I power it on. What's happening? [Elecraft] Chasing the Update Mods Train?
I bought an early K3 (s/n 525). I believe I know which mods were done (everything through September/October 2009), but I'm not sure exactly sure of it, nor where the previous owner stopped, where I should pick up and what is worth or not worth doing. Any advice on how to figure out the next steps to take is greatly appreciated! 73, Eric W3DQ Washington. Re: [Elecraft] K3 - Aux I/O to W9XT BCD-10 Band Decoder
Thanks to all who responded! Next Question: I need a Y cable from that ACC I/O Port: DB-15M to TWO DB-15F. The ones I've seen are all VGA splitters and missing PIN 9, which is the BAND 2 output. Does anyone know of a source of a splitter than has Pin 9 installed? (I need pins 3,9,13 and 14) Thanks, Eric W3DQ Washington, DC e band decoder output of the K3 into a Unified Microsystems (W9XT) BCD-10 Band Decoder / Antenna Selector. I'm not sire which of the K3 four outputs go to the BCD-10's four inputs. Any help is appreciated! [Elecraft] THANKS: K3 - Aux I/O to W9XT BCD-10 Band Decoder
Thanks to all for your help. I've gone with Ed Muns' recommendation: Philmore part number 70-568 has 100% integrity between all 15 pins. This is the item that Altex Computers in Texas sells, per N6XI's posting that W4TV linked below. All the others that several of us have checked have a number of unconnected pins and some also have multiple-connected pins. In the typical VGA application, this is fine, but not for this K3 application. and reiterate Joe Subich's comment: As suggested before, the reflector archives are your friend: http://mailman.qth.net/pipermail/elecraft/2009-May/49.html Thanks again to all!
