Re: [Elecraft] SPKR+PH fault

2012-03-05 Thread Jan Holmer SM6TUW
Hi Paul,

I have the same issue. It just happened some time ago so I traced the PH_SW
signal down to U8 pin#9.
PH_SW acts as intended so either U8 input is faulty or it is in FW.

[Elecraft] Shematics update

2011-07-20 Thread Jan Holmer SM6TUW
Elecraft Design Team!

The K3 is well documented in shematics up to june 2010 but there are some
new kits and options as K144XV PLL, K3XREF and KPA500 not yet shown to us.
Will these schematics be released ? I enjoy reading shematics of the
Elecraft kits and feel it is as an important part of the assembly and
operating experience.

Re: [Elecraft] New K144XV firmware released: reduces 2-meter spurious receive signals

2011-03-22 Thread Jan Holmer SM6TUW
Wayne,

The 116/118 MHz PLL can obviously not be locked to the 49 MHz ref as you
mentioned in an early posting
describing the functions of the coming K144XV add-on board.
The present FLL solution of the KREF3 corrects the 49 MHz internally.
Which external ref will be used for the K144XV PLL, the ext ref (10 MHz)?

Re: [Elecraft] KPA500

2011-01-19 Thread Jan Holmer SM6TUW

Eric,

I have some questions:

1. What is the total shipping weight for a KPA500 kit? (for shipping cost
estimation.)
The transformer is probably the main contributor.

2. Do you have any plans to ship a kit that can be sourced by a customer
power supply or is the built PS
tightly integrated regarding supervision, regulation etc.

The K144XV I already have. I am looking forward to the PLL function for

I consulted the data sheet for the clock circuit PCF8563T (U16 in the K3

than +- 5 minutes. Adjustment of one capacitior (C60) is required though.

Re: [Elecraft] KREF3 External Reference card

2010-06-14 Thread Jan Holmer SM6TUW

Hi
Someone pointed out that we all have different 49 MHz oscillators. I guess
that many K3 owners have TCXO and thus no input for the voltage control
i.e. VCXO. This pin is indicated in the KREF3 shematic as pin 1 (VCTRL) of
Z1.
My KTCXO3-1 did not have this pin and could not be used vith the reference
PLL so I had to replace it with a VCXO.
*The design of the PLL is fairly simple and can be built on a small board
plugging directly into J4.
*One has to consider the resulting phase noise and spurs of the locked
KREF3.
*The Kref 3 must also fall back into a default mode when the extref is
removed or if the PLL unlocks.

I wonder if the promised optional board foor the K144XV allowing lock of the
116/118 MHz XO to the KREF3 is also cancelled ?
In that case we need the K144XV shematic...

Re: [Elecraft] [K3] K3: REF IN

2009-12-05 Thread Jan Holmer SM6TUW

There will be a choice according to Wayne:

"We have made provisions for this on an optional daughter board that
plugs into the main K144XV module. This option board will have at least
three features:
(1) sub receiver AUX RF patch (to let the sub RX
receive on 2 m even if the main RX is on a different band);
(2) 144 MHz
low-level I/O (for higher-band transverters);
 (3) a PLL to lock the
K144XV's crystal oscillator to the K3's 49.38 MHz reference oscillator.

This option will be available somewhat later than the K144XV itself,
and the price has not yet been set. It will be very easy to install".

I am looking forward to have more info about that option!

Re: [Elecraft] K3: REF IN

2009-12-04 Thread Jan Holmer SM6TUW

Since some time I am working on a solution just for fun (
http://n2.nabble.com/KREF-EXT-Option-tc2461086.html#a2461086 ).
My GPS-derived clock was built from VE2ZAZ design and it works fine ( it is
also used for other purpose in lab). PLL is a ADF4001 programmed from a AVR
ATtiny2313.
So far the system is running stand alone with a VCXO external to the K3
since my KTCXO3 does not have a voltage control connection. It is certainly
possible to modify the KTCXO3 to a VCTCXO but I didn´t dare to do that yet.
Maybe Elecrafts supplier can provide such a beast?

If you are planning to use the K144XV as IF for higher order transverters it
would be important to get this reference accuracy.
