Hi all,

My Norton Internet Security removed the KX3 firmware update utility from my
Windows 7 PC after I tried to download it, based on crowdsourcing criteria
(only a few hundred users and over a year old).

Any suggestions on how to get around this?

Thanks!

Ray,

If you provide the K2 with an IF output, the P3 will work just fine as a
panadapter. You need a buffer amplifier for the IF output.
LP-Pan will also work, but you need software running on the computer -
NaP3 or Win4K3 should work nicely.

Hi Mike,

You can use the KY command to do that.

Use the K3 Utility to program separate macros with:

KY VE3WDM;

KY 599 CA;

KY TU;

Write them to the K3.

Then use the KPod buttons to send.

You can't send an increasing number for a report although if you have a P3
with SVGA you could.

Locate RS-232 in the CONFIG menu and set it to "USB" instead of a number.
This should allow the utility to connect.

Do you have a K3S/10 or a K3S/100?

A straight key ... any quality straight key. Don't move to paddles or
a bug until you learn proper timing/spacing.

I have to agree. Straight key first, without question. VIbroplex, J-38, yada
yada, just about anything that is a decent key. Many to choose from. Learn
the code and most importantly GOOD timing. Get your speed up. Then worry
about a bug or single/dual lever paddles and the different keyer modes, and
don’t be in a hurry to move to something glitzy.

I have from the Schurr Profi to home made keys.
One of the best I have is the Norcal paddles Kit key,.
It’s a magnetic(versus springs ) type key. I did put silver contacts on it.
It was picked up by Vibroplex and made as the Code Warrior, I think.
I don’t think Elecraft sells the magnetic paddles by Bencher
anymore.
Another favorite that is in use right now is the N3ZN key, also
magnetic tension.
Now that my hand has become partially paralyzed, I am using
computer key board
Keying, and I like it a lot. Probably the wave of the future and the saving
technology for CW.
Also used for PSK31 and other modes.

Batteries in or out of MC-60 makes no difference. It worked for

my 'list' the whole time. About 6 weeks ago, I picked up at Nye-Viking

same time period, my copy speed got better. I recommend the Nye-Viking for
a straight key. Having read the Begali reviews for 2 years (similar to
Elecraft for product function and quality, engineering customer service

It was a little more $, but after having hooked it up and used it - it's a

I am thinking about possibly getting two different keys - a straight

Would appreciate any suggestions in this area that anyone here has.

Steve,

This Elecraft email reflector stopped being the K2 reflector as soon as
the K1 was available, and now there are questions about the K3, K2, K1,
KX1, now the KX3, KPA500, KRC2, mini-modules, and any other product that
Elecraft has produced or has announced for the future.

Clifton Labs Z1-K2 buffer can be installed in the K2 to provide
IFoutput for your spectrum analyzer. Look at
http://www.cliftonlaboratories.com/z1_buffer_amp.htm.

[Elecraft] KX3

2011-05-21 Thread Leroy Marion
Wow! A while back when we were throwing out ideas for an
Elecraft wish list, I expressed a desire for a KX1 that covered
15 and 10 meters. I sure got that and more!

I’m tempted to ask for a 100 MPG hover craft and
see what happens!

My only question now is how do I
pre-order one of these.

[Elecraft] Yet another product idea

2011-04-09 Thread Leroy Marion

  I enjoy QRP Give me a KX1 that does 20, 15, and WOW, 10
mtrs! The 80mtr end

is of no use, push it up to some real low power QRP bands. Then a handheld 2
watts would

be incredible! And maybe options for 17 and 12 mtrs.

[Elecraft] XV50 transverter CW use

2011-04-01 Thread Leroy Marion
  I just finished a XV50 transverter. Using it with a K2

with the KI02 control.

It seems to work OK when keyed for SSB. When I use

CW, its relays click and chatter like mad. Do I have

some thing set wrong?

Re: [Elecraft] K2 lifespan

2011-03-23 Thread Leroy Marion
My K2 is still my favorite and most used radio. Just before this email
I was building the K60XV option so I can add the XV50 tranverter I just
ordered.
It's a QRP machine. I'm mostly CW, but its fun to get on SSB and astonish
the QRO ops with 10 watts. Most don't know until you tell them.
I also have the K1 and the KX1, they are as high quality and fun.
The workhorse is my K2.

Its been a fun run that’s not over for me.

Hi,

Hope this list is for questions like this, apologies if not. Never
used an Elecraft, thinking about getting a K2, and was wondering what
people thought about it, especially at this time, 11 years later.
Looks like it came out in 2000? I like the reviews and I don't think
I'm advanced enough for a K3 so, just wanted to hear what others
though about the life on this rig. Will it be replaced anytime soon?

Re: [Elecraft] MH2 Microphone audio quality

2011-02-26 Thread Leroy Marion
Thanks for help Don. I just bought mic new from Elecraft.
You hit on something that might be a problem. I remember
some resistor changes to the KSB2 or audio in circuits.
I will look at the mods section, I changed something way back,
But don't remember if it was Elecraft mod or not.

Did you purchase this K2 used, and/or do you know what is inside it?
What I am asking is if any mods have been made to the KSB2 option, or
maybe a mic preamp has been installed. There have been several
non-Elecraft mods to the KSB2, and some will work with the MH2
microphone while others could cause distortion.

Re: [Elecraft] MH2 Microphone audio quality

2011-02-25 Thread Leroy Marion
I just purchased a MH2 to use with K2. I'm getting reports of 5/9 but with
some distortion or rattle audio with mic gain on 1.
If I try other mics, I get clean audio reports but way down in signal
strength. The resistor is installed and jumpers there.
A Kenwood dynamic mike wired for K2 gets the best audio quality report, but
with mic gain on 3, I barely put out any power.
Did I get a bad one or I am I doing something wrong? What is the ideal
impedance? I guess you need to use power required
mics only?
  Thanks, Roy AB7CE

much power out the amp will get with 10 watts of drive

10 watts drive gives about 170 watts out - give or take 5 watts or so.

Re: [Elecraft] Taken the plunge!

2011-01-30 Thread Leroy Marion
You will not be disappointed. Just last night I worked 160 meter Delaware
and Kentucky, QRP 10 watt SSB to 10 watt SSB, and many other QRO stations.
I can work any state on 160 with 5 watt CW. Astonishes the Big guns. Its
all about antennas anyway.

Well I have officially taken the plunge and ordered a K2 today. After much
consideration about how to configure my K2 I decided that I will make a QRP
version. With an SSB, DSP, internal tuner options. I'm not sure what else
I might need. I was thinking about going the 100 watt option but I decided
that when I want more power that will be when I order a K3. I have already
made the SSB mod but still need to add the torrids which I have not ordered
yet.

So this will be a long process due to work and family requirements but I'm
excited to be getting started soon. I know I will have many questions and I
would like to thank all of you who will spend their time answering them in
advance.
