[Elecraft] K3 UTILITY QUESTION
I had previously used my K3 utility program with my K3 that had the standard analog I/O board module. I recently upgraded to the KIO3B and now my k3 utility no longer functions. All the functions on the KIO3B work fine. What is necessary to get the K3 utility running again? I do not need it for anything specific right now but I feel now is the time to fix it so when it is needed it works. 73’s, Greg N9GB __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
[Elecraft] STATIONMASTER, K3, P3, AND PC INTERCONNECTION
I am confused about the connection and communication between my PC and my MicroHam stationmaster (SM), K3, P3 and hope that someone can help clear this up. I just modified my K3 to upgrade it to the KIO3B digital I/O board. Before upgrading to the KIO3B, I had used a custom RS232 cable to the CAT port on the and the entire system worked fine using DXLabs, or N1MM as the “logger” program. To reconfigure the cables and connect them in the right order, I consulted the SM website and support page which indicates the connection flow was from the PC to the SM (all via USB), then to the P3, then to the K3. To implement this, I connected the PC to SM via USB, then used the E980296 “Y-Cable”, provided by Elecraft, and connected the RS-232 connectors to the back of the P3 (ensuring the cables matched the configuration shown in the KIO3B upgrade kit), and the other end with “RJ” connector to the K3. When I powered this system up, the K3 firmware recognized the KIO3-B board properly. However, this configuration does not work. Upon starting the Router program, the Tab indicating the status of the SM shows the usual green check mark. Moving to the port tab, the Router program indicates the COM port is open (one arrow green) and is sending data but it is not receiving anything back (red arrow is not present) from the radio. Have I configured the system correctly? BTW No changes were made to the inside of the SM. I had used COM Port 7 in my previous configuration and have not changed that either. 73’s, Greg N9GB __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
[Elecraft] K3 INTERFACE WITH LDG Z100A
I have tried to find a cable that goes from my K3 to the LDG Z100A tuner but all I see is just a cable with a Molex like connector going to the tuner and nothing on the other end of the K3 except bare wires (i.e. no connector). Does the tuner have to get connected to the K3 ACC jack? Or does someone have a wiring diagram so I can marry the correct connections between the 2 units? 73’s, Greg N9GB __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
[Elecraft] CABLE TO INTERFACE K3 AND LDG Z100??
This may have been answered before but I did not see anything that addressed the question below. Is there a cable available (and where) to interface a K3 and a LDG Z100 plus so that it works essentially automatically like the Icom 7300 does with the LDG tuner? Re: [Elecraft] WHICH USB ADAPTER TO STEREO PLUG TO USE
Sorry about the confusing post. I essentially did what you suggested except in the reverse way. I took a good DB-9 cable (RS-232 type) and cut off the other end and soldered the wires to a 3.5 mm audio plug. The wires are so small that they easily break and I have repaired it twice. So I thought I could just make the equivalent of the E850483 cable by using the DB9 to USB cable (KXUSB-A) and then getting a USB to Stereo adapter (Female USB to Male 3.5 mm plug). And that is where I ran into the problem of different USB to stereo plug adapter capabilities. Is there another supplier of a cable that matches the E8500483 or can you recommend an appropriate USB to Stereo plug adapter? 73’s, Greg N9GB From: Jim Rhodes Reply-To: Date: Friday, July 1, 2022 at 10:44 AM To: greg best Cc: Subject: Re: [Elecraft] WHICH USB ADAPTER TO STEREO PLUG TO USE I am not familiar with the Station Master. Your post is kind of confusing. You talk about USB to DB9 and USB to 3.5 mm cables, The Elecraft DB9 to 3.5 mm cable is an RS232 cable used with the KX line and other small RS232 devices. It is still listed on their "Quick Order" page, down near the very bottom. Search for "KXSER-A ADDITIONAL RS232 COMMUNICATION CABLE WITH 9-PIN CONNECTOR" on the quick order page. Like all their cables it is not the cheapest cable you will find, but they are high quality, durable products. Have a few of them around for my KX3, W1, XG3, etc. The DB9 is a female and I believe the K3 has a female connector (I have the USB board in mine) so this may not be the cable you are looking for. You might be better off taking a good quality 3.5 mm cable, cutting the thing in two and soldering on a good DB9 male. __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
[Elecraft] WHICH USB ADAPTER TO STEREO PLUG TO USE
I had a homemade cable with a 3.5 mm plug on one end which goes to the CAT connection on my stationmaster and a male DB 9 for the RS232 connection for my K3. (I do not have a USB port on my K3). The cable was not reliable, it broke, is now too short, and I was going to replace it with the Elecraft cable made for those connections. It is no longer available and suggested to be replaced by the male DB9 on one end and the male USB on the other end. So I thought I would merely have to get a USB to 3.5 mm stereo plug adapter to add to the DB9 to USB cable. However, there are different versions of USB to 3.5 mm plug adapters. Some that only charge power, some that include MP3 decoders, and some that appear to be for automotive uses only. Has anyone else found a suitable replacement for the cable? Or has anyone else used one of the USB to 3.5 mm adapters and if so, which type and where was it found. 73’s, Greg N9GB __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
[Elecraft] K3 AND FT8 USING CAT CONTROL NO TX RF
i have hit the wall with my knowledge of FT8. I have my K3 configured with a stationmaster that feeds the CAT control to/from the computer. I can test the CAT using the WSJT SW and it is GREEN. I can receive and decode but TX output is not working and cannot figure out why. The K3 goes into xmit mode when Tune is selected on the WSJT SW program. I can hear sidetone but there is no RF output. I can select TX enable and the K3 goes into TX mode but again there is NO RF output nor does the bargraph on the program indicate any TX audio. It acts like there is no audio getting from the computer to the rig but I have no clue why. Audio connections have been checked from two different computers, (MacPro amd Optiplex 780 runnin Win 10), and both setups give the same result. Audio cables from each computer have been verified to be good. So I think it has to do with the radio setup but i thinik it is correct. I am using TX Data mode, and split shows up. (BTW-that is what WSJT SW also says.) I hope this is not the case but if it is, this is really bad. My PC is actually a MacBook Pro with VMWARE Fusion on it with Win 7 as virtual OS.
