[Elecraft] K2: The Dog Ate My Part

2009-03-24 Thread Jon Perelstein
How embarrassing is this?

As I was working on the KPA100 last night, the EL5146CN op-amp (a small 8-pin
IC) slipped out of my fingers and fell to the floor - right in front of the
idiot lab/pit mix who promptly decided to taste it.  She didn't swallow it
(fortunately), but it's well chewed and I have to order a replacement from
Elecraft.

Why me?

Re: [Elecraft] K2: The Dog Ate My Part

2009-03-24 Thread Darwin, Keith
Oh, that is tooo funny. I've had 3 labs. It's a good thing God made them cute
because they sure are stupid! (said in loving jest).

Actually, you might have been better off if she HAD swallowed it. Dogs don't
chew. You could have just waited a day or so and retrieved it from the yard
and it would have had no chew marks. I'm sure she'd have delivered her package
faster than the replacement would arrive through UPS. UPS will put the package
on the front porch though. If your dog did that, she'd probably hear bad dog.

But Jon, at least the glass didn't break. Course if it would have been a
tube, she might have licked the number off the side.or worse, eaten it

Our Temple Cat likes SMD parts, but only those types that have lots of legs.
She's not interested in inexpensive SMD capacitors/ resistors, leaves those
for the dogs.

Jon,

It's that pit mix that is your problem. A purebred lab (or better yet, a
bullmastiff like I have) would have whipped out a soldering iron and
installed it for you! Hi.

Re: [Elecraft] K2: The Dog Ate My Part

2009-03-24 Thread Ron D'Eau Claire
Ha, ha! Jon, you might want to save that well chewed I.C.

As a 10 year old kid fascinated by radio, my sable collie decided to taste
the binding of my prized, hardbound ARRL handbook - my first radio book
that I read so often I can almost recite whole paragraphs today.

He made a pretty mess of one corner, chewing through the cover into the glue
along the spine.

I patched it up with some cellophane tape and probably glared at him a lot
for a long time, but he was my best bud throughout my teenage years. He
died a decade later while I was away in the Army.

Half a century later I still have that book sitting on the shelf, and every
time I see or hold it I remember my old friend.
