[Elecraft] K3: BW direction?

2008-07-29 Thread DOUGLAS ZWIEBEL
OK...my 2 cents.

I just looked at the Yaseu 2000 instruction manual on line. To narrow
the bandwidth, you turn the knob counter-clockwise (and vice versa).

Some Kenwood radios (eg, TS940) have a VBT control (variable bandwidth
tuning). Turning the knob counter-clockwise makes the BW narrower -
and that radio is 20 years old, so this is far from something new.

So the K3 seems fine to me!

Yes...and all 4 small knobs including WIDTH are consistently silk-screened
+ for CW and - for CCW. Turning WIDTH + (CW direction) indeed makes the
filter BW wider. Elecraft will NOT change this so let's either get over it
or go find something else to complain about.

Another 2 cents...

My all-time old favorite rig, the even older Kenwood TS830S' VBT had the
counter-clockwise turn = narrower bandwidth.

So, Elecraft's implementation is exactly what I like. It brings back fond
memories of my early contesting days.
